  1. Bosley's original name was----get this----PEACHES!!! Well, you can blame my then 3 year old great nephew for that one! :) After he came to me, I started calling him Quincy because he was such the good detective--opening every cabinet (and drawers!) and getting into everything. Quincy didn't seem like quite the right name for him and then one afternoon the movie 'Charlie's Angels' came on--Quincy became Bosley! It also sounds somewhat 'dopey' enough for him and his laid-back personality. :)

I chose the name Bailey after trying out a few others, and it just stuck. It sounded somewhat regal for her and there's plenty of nicknames from it.

  3. PEACHES?! Um, no. Bosley is the perfect name for him.

  4. Well, at least he had the correct color, WWM! He is a smart little 8 yr. old now! :)

I just named a friend of mine's new kitty---she's a calico with three big polka dots on her mouth. Garbo!!

  5. Cindy found a kitten up a tree by a dog ,after scaring away the dog she adopted it hoping for a lap kitty but the kitten refused to sit and kept figiting so I named the little kitten Gigit[ girl - figit ].for some reason the kitten took to me .

  6. Our late, beloved Sam was named for the colonial guy pictured on the Sam Adams Beer labels as the character seemed to have the same pugnacious look as our big boy did. Lady Coco was named for the restaurant (Coco's) that was across the street from the parking lot where we found her (couldn't name her Jack-in-the-Box). And Sophie Dorothea was named for her elegant ways and for the tragic Princess of Celle (who has always fascinated me), the mother of the future George II of England (not a fascinating character.)

  7. "Cuddles" (who is the antithesis of her name) was named by daughter, who was 6 at the time, and wanted to call EVERY stuffed animal, pet, anything she loved "Cuddles"..... so Cuddles was named.......if we named her for her personality, her name would be Elvira Gulch!.... LOL

(from the Wizzard of Oz for those of you that might not have gotten that!)

  8. Scooter - a gray and white cat who looks like a cat we used to have named scooter. Shadow, Cocoa, Midnight are all black cats. Salem came from the Sabrina the teenage witch series (she is a black cat). Garfield is like garfield, Oreo is black and white. Winston and Domino came from suggestions here. Kirby cause he climbs the vaccuum. Fuzz cause he is fuzzy. Tig cause he looks like another cat we had called Tiger, his brother is called Tom cause we couldnt think of anything else. Jasmine is a real pretty gold and brown tabby, so wanted an exotic name for her. Same for Savannah. Abby is because she looks like an Abyssian breed. Baby cause he acts like a baby. Charlotte was already named. Paintbrush cause she is mostly gray but has a white tip on her tail that looks like she painted herself. Tippy has a gold tip on the tail, Marble is a tortieshell, reminded me of a fudge marble cake, Little Marb (who we got much later) cause she is an exact copy of Marble. Frisky cause he is frisky, Peaches is gold, Creampuff is a creamy longhair cat, Dusty is also orange. Storm cause we found her hanging from a tree on a windy day. Callie is a calico. Took a long time to name Powder - she is an all white cat but I didnt want the traditional all white cat names. Around that time the movie Powder came out, so we went with that. Scrappy cause he started hissing at us at 2 weeks old (was born outside) and Spirit cause he has lots of spirit - still incredibly wild.

I probably forgot somebody in all that, but we used to have a calico we started to Speckles. Then she started to get into everything, so we called her Squirrel (that name really fit too.)

  9. George (in avatar) was named because he is a George... it just came to me. Nick and Nora were named because Nicky looks like William Powell in the Thin Man, and they are black and white, just like the movies. Now we just have to get a black and/or white dog and name it Asta to complete the collection!

  10. Claude got his name because he wasn't declawed. Ironically, he was the gentlest soul in the universe.
We didn't name Oreo. He's a calico, but he has black spots on his back that could be Oreo cookies, so I guess that's how he got his name. Plus, he's very sweet.
My son was two years old when he named our girl cat after his favorite character, Winnie the Pooh, or just Winnie for short.
I wanted to name the kittens Anastasia and Alexsei, but finally the names everyone agreed on where Luna and Neville.

  12. Our cats original name was 'Adventure' then when she went to the neighbor girls they renamed her 'Tabitha'. When she came to us she was named Mittens by my then 8 year old son. He wanted a cat named 'Mittens Kittens'.

She has eyes that folks adore so,
and a torso even more so.
    Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of Tattoo.
On her back is The Battle of Waterloo.
Beside it, The Wreck of the Hesperus too.
And proudly above waves the red, white, and blue.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!

  14. emma how did your kittie's get their names?

  15. My current cats Onyx is all black, and Oreo is black and white. I used to have Casey, she was an abandoned cat that hung around between my house and my neighbor's. She was originally called K.C. (as in Kitty Cat)by my neighbor's 8 year old son, but when she adopted me (lol) I changed the spelling. Inkspot was all black. I named Kali for the Hindu goddess, then found out he was a boy, but kept the name. Missy was originally named for Maggie Smith's character in the Harry Potter movies (and I am having a senior moment here because I can't remember it)because she looked like the cat she changed into, but we shortened it to just Missy. My first cat was Shiva, who was given to me when I had a bad mouse problem, so I named him after the Hindu god of destruction--he did his job!

  16. MaryLynn:

Maggie Smith = Professor McGonigle, I think.

  17. Tommy got his name for almost obvious reasons: we couldn't think of a name for him until my pseudohusband started calling him Tom (as in tomcat); I called him Tommy because he was still a 'teen' kitten at the time. Autumn got her name because she looked like an autumn landscape of all colors of fallen leaves. The shelter named Pumpkin, and I never changed it.

  18. WEll lets see, Buster was named that because of his purrsonality (I never could remember his original name and the lady who surrendered him dint write it down)
Harry was originally Jeager which I didnt like so I named him after Harry Potter cause he just reminds me of the character.
Beauty was already named that when I got her, and was given that name cause she has a beauty mark.
Grisswald and Ambross were named by angie and myself
Grisswald is my little grey conquer and Ambros is named after Monk's brother cause he is a little weird and afraid of most everything.
Wobbles was named that because the first time my mom saw her she was at the wobbly kitten stage
Frisky was given her name because she was a fiesty frisky kitten when my mom first met her.
Which brings us to FM, Fm's full name is Ally Fluff Monster Destroyer of Potroasts Purr Meister La pue, and yes there is a reason for that. FM came from a friend who thought it would be cute to name the kitten after me, but I dont feel comfortable calling her that so I called her Fluff Monster and shortened it to FM. Shortly after getting her she started voratioucsly going after any food I had on my plate and especially liked pot roast. At her first vet visit the doc remarked about how much she purrs and how friendly she is and some days she gets a little gassy and loves to cuddle at her worst moments....
There have been many other cats especially when I was fostering but it would take way too long to cover all of them

  19. All of my bengals are named after the kings and queens in history ...Except Elija blue ......:)

  20. Tansey was named after a piece of mandolin music "Tansey's Fancy", although I prefer to think she was named after the herb tansy :-)

Hermes... was supposed to be Luna Eclipse, but SHE turned out to be a HE, born on the night of a lunar eclipse, so we thought fast... Hermes is the messenger god, he's also mischievous. So he became MelodyGarden's Hermes Lunar Eclipse ("Lunar Eclipse" was his grandpa's name)

He's Boom-bottom, HappyButt, Buddy, Squirt, HermBot, Hermie, yadda...

  21. I don't really know. Jasper just looked like a Jasper -- though it took him a while to realise that was now his name -- and Libs looked like a Libby. I always give my kitties "people" names as they seem like "people" to me, just smaller, furrier, cuddlier family members. In my family we've also had a Samantha, a Tess, an Abby and a Max. RIP, darling little ones.

The only kitty's name I've ever changed was my darling Nuffy, who moved in with me when her original family moved house and she didn't want to. Her real name was 'Nothing' but I thought that was a dreadful name for a cat and so, loving Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I changed it to Nuffy, figuring that was close enough so she wouldn't have an identity crisis to add to any low self-esteem issues. Nuffy was a glorious cat (RIP), and a beautiful ginger and white girl.

  23. Beth, that is originally a song Groucho Marx sings in...The Coconuts? I think. It totally cracks me up in Philadelphia Story tho!

ok...Spot is named cause she has...SPOTS! :) Brain is named after the cartoon Pinky and the Brain cause she had a big head as a kitten, Zooney is named from Fireball XL5...someone in that show had a pet named that. Zorro had a beautiful black mask and Tigger was just cause. Used to have an all grey cat named Gandalf

  24. Cato (KAYTOE)was named after Cato in the Pink Panther movies, but now he is moving into his political phase :) and his website is to be renamed Cato's Republic and Cato's Institute.....he has had other names yelled at him in vain. :) Elizabeth

  26. I haven't hear the Lydia song for so long...wasn't that also in a Marx Bro. film? Maybe there is a cat named Lydia out there too! As far as Asta...I would get a cat with puppy dog tendencies rather than a dog!
