A Bit Worried About Bobby's Vaccinations

  1. I changed Bobby's vet visit til tomorrow. My hope is that he'll be nice and tired and I'll get some good sleep. We were going to go on Monday but I'm dog-sitting Sunday til Wednesday, so Bobby getting nice and sleepy on Monday won't do me any good since I'm not going to sleep at home! :)

Anyway, I wanted to discuss with the vet the possibility of the darn Nutro having caused his seizures, so I was reading up on seizures this afternoon. I read several articles on how vaccinations (both rabies and others) can cause seizures in cats. Given the fact that he's already had two seizures, I figure he may be more susceptible to another. He's never had trouble with vaccinations before (his first seizure last year was two months after the vaccine) and he is on pheno to prevent seizures.
Still I worry. What do you all think?

Even if you don't have any info or opinion, Bobby and I would really appreciate some prayers that all will go well tomorrow. Thanks!

  3. Always prayers for the Bobster and his meowmy! I think it was the food myself! There were too many injured animals after that tainted food for it not to be the food. You are right to be worried no matter what, he is your Bobby! ((((BOBBY, GD)))))

  5. There's so much info (good and bad) on vaccinations that I have no idea who and what to believe. I did appreciate it when our vet said my strictly indoor kitties didn't have to have yearly shots anymore.

I'm thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts for Bobby, he may be a little mad at you but I'm sure he'll get over it.

  9. There is so much info out there on vaccinations. I don't know exactly what to believe either. I just follow what the vet school suggests. So far the boys are seizure free. Wilbur is such a good "kidney kitty". I'm sure that he is up to about 13 pounds! It makes me smile. The Bob man will be happy with what ever you decide. Go Bobster!!!

  11. Thanks all! I will be asking the vet a ton of questions, just in case! Bobby is already mad at me. I thought he should look nice for the vet so I gave him a bath last night. He's was so unhappy! He did wear himself out though, cleaning himself afterwards, and slept all night! And now he looks so handsome! :)

  12. Awww, Bobby, you mean you're even more handsome? I hope meowmy's up to scratch to escort you there ;-)

  17. Thanks, everybody! Our vet appointment is at 10:45 and he's super clean, smells nice and just got furminated!
He's always such a good boys at the vet, NNGM. He doesn't like it there, but he puts up with whatever they do to him.

  18. I'd definitely talk to the vet about it. When Taco gets vaccines, he gets extremely ill and has diarrhea and vomits for a few days. It's what triggered his first long hospital stay. Now when Taco needs vaccines (he hasn't had any since though), the vet said we will keep Taco in for the day to make sure he's okay and keep him in care and if he gets really sick with the next round we'll re-evaluate. Anyways, good luck at the vet. If you have concerns just ask if he can stay a bit for them to watch him and it'll make you feel a bit better to know he's in care just in case.

  19. Ohhhh GD....I sure don't understand or have any experience on seizures but I CAN send our beloved Bobby a big fat Prayer that the vet will have the right answers for you. Headbonks 'n' Purrs to Bobby & little Milo too. You're such a good meowmy GD! =)

  20. I have very mixed emotions about continued vaccinations for cats, especially if they are indoor kitties. Like everyone else said, ask tons of questions. And GD, Bobby has a surprise for you if I can ever slow down to do some personal work on the computer. More later!

  21. Oh what a handsome boyo! Good luck Bobby, hope everything goes smoothly. Maybe your meowmy will let you play outside later!

  22. GD...I posted on the 'Bobby' thread. I know the food had a big effect on all my kits. I've since discarded & refuse to purchase any Nutro foods for them. The only foods that don't make them sick anymore are the Purina Cat Chow Kibble & the Friskies canned. I would even suggest not getting the shots for a bit longer. You take such good care of your furrbabies & they are nice & healthy & indoors (most of the time).
Sending HUGS & Prayers to you. Bobby & Milo!!

  23. Bobby has a surprise for me????? Ohhhhhh! :)

I asked a ton of questions about the possibility of the Nutro having caused the seizures. The vet said he'd never heard of that, but didn't rule it out - especailly since we never did find a cause for the seizures. He said if that's the case then we can start talking about weaning him off the pheno. We'll check his blood in a month or two to see how his pheno level is and check his liver and kidney function, too.
I didn't want to subject the poor guy (Bobby, that is!) to more needles today!
