Does anybody here like the musical "CATS"? I just love it - apart from having good songs and wonderful costumes and makeup, I think that it brings out cat characters really well.
What do you TDKers think?

Saw it twice in college and LOVE IT! It is my very favorite musical! I think it truly does bring out the cat's purrsonality!

Mr. WWM and I LOVE Cats! Two of our precious kitties were named for cats in the play; Skimbleshanks and Bombalurina. Sadly, both are at the Bridge - we miss them.
I can sing all of the songs, but my dancing is sort of lacking. What would you like to hear? :-)
*la, la, la, la, la, la,la - okay - all warmed up!*

How about "Memory" WWM? That's my favorite song from Cats.

I have so many favourite songs from CATS that I can't always manage to name just one favourite! My faves are "Memory", "The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles", "Macavity" and "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer".

*puts on raggedy dress to play Grizabella, complete with a "twisted pin" and slowly enters from stage left.......*
Daylight
See the dew on the sunflower
And a rose that is fading
Roses whither away
Like the sunflower
I yearn to turn my face to the dawn
I am waiting for the day . . .
*begins to cry and has to quickly exit stage right*

I love the battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles! But we have seen Cats lots of times now, and depending on the production that is the one number that is frequently omitted. And it's so cute!

Everyone stands up and gives WWM a standing ovation! Someone please get WWM a protein shake to keep her strength up!

I love "CATS", especially "The Naming of Cats," but "Memories" holds too many sad associations. I remember hearing it playing in the background when our whole department was told that we were being laid off in 2001. I stopped for take-out that night (didn't feel much like cooking) and d**n if it wasn't playing in the restaurant, too! It's one of the few songs that can make me cry anytime.

Did you hear Susan Boyle sing Memories? She did a wonderful job!
Posted 5 months ago by mollycat71 #
I'm sure she did 'cause she has such a great voice and technique, but I avoid that song if at all possible. It just drags up too much.

We have a CD, too - no pekes and pollicles :-(

...oh no, do not start her singing again....!!!........

I was in NYC when the play first opened at the Winter Garden Theater. We wanted to see it, but we were poor college students and couldn't afford tickets. Of course, I have seen it plenty of times since then - but it would have been wonderful to go when it first opened. I had a Rumpleteazer and Mungojerrie (both at the Bridge now). Jerrie absolutely lived up to his name; RT not so much, although when they joined forces they were real trouble.
Well my cats are named Rumpleteaser and Deuteronomy, I guess I am a fan! Saw the production in Germany--behind the stage pass and all. Got to meet the actors as they were putting on their makeup and tour the set. My favorite cat is Macavity. Someday I may have a Macavity in the house--although he and I might not survive each other! Before the musical were the poems it was based on by T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" written in 1939. T.S. Eliot is one of my favorite poets.
Love 'Cats', saw it in Boston quite a few yrs back. Our first 2 kitties as a married couple were names from the play, Coricocat ( who my oldest son who turned 16 yesterday - yikes! - owes his middle name to :) ) and Jennyanydots Bombalurina. God willing they are both together cuddling as brother and sister as they used to do when they were babies at the bridge.

Sox's full name was Mistofalees. We ended up calling him Sox because of the vet's secretary. When the boyfriend brought him to my daughter he was covered in fleas--more than I have ever seen. The ears were packed. Not to mention he was covered in oil since he had been fished out of the engine of the boyfriend's truck. I took him to the vet and they kept him over night and dipped him 3 times--didn't know if he would live because he was drained of so much blood. Anyway I told the secretary his name was Mistofalees. When I got to pick him up the next day she said here is his paperwork--I looked at the name and bust out laughing. She said she didn't know how to spell Mistofalees--SHE SURE DIDN'T!! She wrote MESSOFLEAS!! I almost died laughing! He then became Sox.
