  1. Hi family,

I just found out that I've been turned down for the latest job I've applied for. I don't know what to do; I've been told my resume looks great and I interview well, but no one wants me. I just want to curl up in a corner and cry. I've never been out of work this long.

  2. Please don't give up Bellantara!!! You are NOT worthless. You WILL find something. I know how hard it is to find a job when you're not working. I am praying something comes your way soon. ((Bellantara))

  6. You are NOT worthless...times are hard right now!! It's sad but so many people out of work right now, that every opening has thousands of applicants...Hang in there, you will find the job that is right for you...

It's not you..it's the market. Please know you are a skilled, talented human and are worth much more than what you are getting.

  8. I just don't get it. I'm good at what I do, I have the experience to back it up, and supposedly the paralegal field is "wide open". Every interview I've had the people liked me personally and professionally (or so they've said), but I never get the job.

Sometimes the only thing keeping me from checking out permanently is the Lady Kitty.

  9. Ah, Bella - it hurts, doesn't it? It's ok to feel the hurt, but then you need to dry your eyes and get back in the game. These are hard times. It's bound to take longer to find work than it does when the economy is good. But you are a good worker, you have good skills to offer, and the right job will open up for you. I really believe that, and I hope you do too. Now do something nice for yourself-you deserve it for going out in the fray! (((Bella)))

  10. I am sorry you didn't get the job--know that it wasn't the right one for you. Bellantara you are a great person. Our economy is horrid and unemployment is much higher than the government said it would be. You are stuck in this terrible time. It isn't you!! Please Please hear this--you are not worthless--to me you have had priceless advice and comment. My prayers are with you.

Heavenly Father, we remember before you those who suffer
want and anxiety from lack of work. Guide the people of this
land so to use our public and private wealth that all may find
suitable and fulfilling employment, and receive just payment
for their labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  11. Sweetheart, keep your chin up. In this economy, it is hideous to try to find a job. Just keep trying, and please, honey, don't lose heart. You are not worthless. You have a wonderful soul, great character, and you are very very talented. Something splendid will come up, and we will all pray for you.

Don't let this hurt you or damage you. We all love you. You are a very hard worker and you will get a wonderful job soon.

    Much love,
    Emma

    PS: Starting another novena now!

  12. Oh, my goodness, Bellantara - worthless? I hardly think so! I am so very sorry but I know that the RIGHT job for you is out there. Never give up! Easy to say, I know. But so many are in this same place right now. It isn't just you!

  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Bella you are NOT worthless, please don't even consider "checking out"! Do not beat yourself up, do not think you are not good enough! I know it doesn't make it easier but I agree with what everyone above has said, it is a difficult time to find a job. We are all here for you, please come vent when you need to. Is there anywhere you can work at all until something in your field opens up!? I know when I lost my job years ago after an auto accident I felt like I was poison and no one would hire me. I ended up working in a hotel almost a year. Funny thing was, I really enjoyed it and it was so "outside the box" for me. I don't regret taking that job and it taught me way more than I would ever have thought. Hang in there friend, praying something will come your way! Hugs to you! (((Bella)))

  15. Bella, is it possible for you to volunteer for some group offering free legal aid? Maybe that would give you some strings to pull. Or do consider a job completely outside the box as MC said. About 6 years ago, I took an evening job at a service station for about 6 months. It was a great break from my teaching day, and I really got a chance to de-stress. It got to be too physically challenging but I really enjoyed it. {{{Bella}}}

  16. Bella, You are not worthless, you are worth more than they are willing to offer and they preemptively eliminate you from consideration with the following ridiculous statements.

You are Over Qualified (we don't want to pay what you are worth).

You will be Under Challenged (we don't want to hire you at a lower level and we don't want to pay what you are worth).

You will move to Greener Pastures too quickly (we don't want to hire you at a lower level and we don't want to pay what you are worth but sooner rather than later you will find someone who will).

Take your skills and the way you applied them to your employers benefit and see what else fits the sets. Try to pick up that out of the box experience.

Above all be yourself, if you have to pretend to get the job you will fit one of those categories keeping you out now.

  17. I was out of work for three months, and at 56 years old, no one wanted to hire an older woman who had been a data analyst, software trainer, and technical writer.

However, one church needed a secretary.

    And they got me.

I've been here almost five years, and this job has saved my life and my sanity, enriched my soul, and refocused all my priorities.

Think outside the box, dear friends. That is where true freedom resides.

And do NOT even think of checking out. There may be some people who are not needed in this world, but YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM. We need you and we love you.

  18. Bella, I know many many people who are looking for work right now, and I don't consider any of them to be worthless. Even the positions that used to have many openings just don't have them anymore. Don't give up! I know that you will find the right job for you.

  19. (((((Bella)))) I'm so sorry! You're NOT worthless and one of these days you WILL find a job, I just know it!!!
    Hang in there!!!

  20. Bella, you are a person of worth. You are God's own. You are quality.

You have experience and skills. It is the job market, not you, that is the problem. It doesn't help the bank account to know that but I hope you can believe it is the job market and not get negative about yourself.

The suggestions to think outside the box and look for other fields needing your skill set are good. It widens the areas of opportunity for finding a job.

May I make another suggestion? Have someone you trust call your references as if they are a potential employer checking your references and also have them call your last employer (who I know was a skunk) and play reference checker. That way you find out exactly what is or isn't being said by your references and last employer. It can be helpful to know and perhaps help you tweek your job hunting.

Good luck Bella. I know it is hard, it is discouraging, it is soul depressing out there right now. It will get better. Maybe not as soon as you want and really need, but it WILL GET BETTER.

  21. (((((Bellantra)))))) This economy sucks and the way we are treated sucks and I'm with you on wanting to curl up in a corner and cry. I've worked for my place of employment for 28 years, done a good job, gone above and beyond many times and been a loyal employee. On Friday I was made an eight month employee instead of a twelve month employee. I am p*****d. PS They ruined my 3 day weekend, too.

  22. Thanks guys. :)

I know last job is giving me good references; I still have a spy there. As far as working outside of the box, I don't even know where to start. So much of what I know is legal field-specific. My dad joked with me the other day that he knew of a stable that needed shoveling; I said "don't laugh; I'd take it right about now".

I just feel lost. My mom isn't one for sympathy, even when she isn't in the same boat like she is now. My dad is my main shoulder IRL, but he's in the mountains with his wife and out of reach. I'm just glad y'all are here.

  23. Marnet is offering sound advice. It could be one of your references that is not coming through for you. I sit withing hearing distance of our Director of Operations. I have heard him get several reference calls for former co-workers in the past couple of weeks and the tone of his voice can tell me who the call is about, even if he is saying the same thing about the employees. Recently we had two calls for two different former co-workers for the same job and even when he was just talking about how long they worked here, his voice was warmer for one over the other. There was no editorial comment, just facts. Guess who got the job.

I'm sorry you're having such a bad time finding work, the worldwise economy is the worst our generation has ever knowm. It really is a case of "it's not you, it's them", but I know how easy it is to lose hope. Have you tried asking for feedback so you know what the hired person had over you? You're obviously doing pretty much everything right by the sounds of it, it must be so frustrating. But please never, ever think of checking out - Renee and Terri would give you such a telling off - better to stay here with us :o)

  26. Bellantra, your kitty looks like the mama to kittens I just found in my shed. She isn't very old(mama); I'm hoping to get her to the spa once the babies are a little older. Pretty cats both of them

  29. Bella, have you looked at general secretarial positions? If you have been in the legal field then I KNOW that your business communication skills are first rate and you have great attention to detail. If there are any publishing houses in your area you would make an excellent copy reader as well. Heck you would make a good instructor at any college that has paralegal courses. Also check on getting certified as a substitute teacher. That wont help until fall, most likely but it would be something on the horizon. Still sending you hugs.

  30. Just guessing for a start

    Research, Filing, Typing, Dictaphone?....

    Outside the box

Library, Admin Assistant, Records Transcription (all types)

Do Job searches on Monster et. al. just matching skills and see what hits then brainstorm...
