Welcoming Night Shift 6/15

It didn't help that her AP Physics teacher was this dude from eastern Europe who also taught at the community college and had his own band, both of which he had much more interest in than the students. He was the only teacher not present on parent's night, was impossible to contact, and expected these students to be on the same level as his college kids (even though none of them had ever been even introduced to physics before this class). He would talk way over their heads (and these are AP students, mind you) and if some poor kid were to ask him to explain a second time, he'd berate them and call them stupid. Needless to say, we got documentation, went through the channels, and got exempted from the "no AP class drop" rule without his damaging grade counting on her record.

Oh no! :) My parents were supposed to fly to Michigan last Thursday morning but their flight was cancelled because of horrible storms (which I was driving through). Anyway, they were bumped from one flight to others and ended up coming home and having to put their cat to sleep. Yes, Psycho cat (bless her little abused soul) went to the rainbow bridge and my parents were able to be there with her. I've already talked to my dad about getting an IBKC kitty for my mom because she FINALLY deserves a sweet cat who will let her love on it and all. She still talks about Zippy. When she's ready, IBKC here I come! And, my niece lives in Tacoma!!!
Hey, SMM--can you pass me some of your cooler weather?

The cat has been missing a week now. We look at night. Seems there are a lot of cats out at night. This neighborhood is like the Flintstone neighborhood in one aspect, they all put their cats out at night. Deuter and Teaser are strictly indoor cats. We feel for this family because they also have an indoor cat. With all the ones let out at night the fights can be heard. We hope that we will get him.

Sure, FH. It is a nice 66 degrees here with 65% humidity. Suppose to warm up to the mid 70's in the next couple of days. Sorry for the loss of psycho kitty, FH.

We should be hitting 100 degrees tomorrow---with high humidity, too (over 70 percent). Oh, joy! Thank goodness for deodorant!

GK he makes it hard on good teachers. I miss teaching AP. I have to admit though, I really like middle school age children. They are without a doubt the funniest ever! They are just floundering to try and find themselves. It is an age I don't want to revisit myself! But AP students are so nice!
FH does this mean they aren't going to Michigan at all. I am thankful they were with Psyco at the end though. The perfect kitteh will walk into her life--may it be the sweetest lap kitteh that has a great motor!

I don't have a missing cat story, but I have one about a missing collar. Baby Sally Semi-Meezer has two "boyfriends" (she's spayed, mind you) who come and sit outside the window of our condo. One of them has a prominent red-heart county rabies tag on his collar. Not long after we moved in, our neighbor across the street brought Ladybug a collar with a prominent red-heart tag that her dog had found--she thought the collar was Sally's. 'Bug said it wasn't Sally's, but she knew whose collar it was, and kept it to return.
The trick was to get it back where it belonged. We knew Sally's beau would leave by crawling under the privacy fence blocking off the neighborhood behind us, but there are many houses and we had no idea to which one "Bachelor #1" belonged. All we could do was wait for him to reappear and hope we could convince him to allow us to put his collar back on. Meanwhile, Ladybug tightened it just a 'scooch so that he wouldn't lose it again.
It took two weeks, but late one evening, Don Juan reappeared. Hubby cooed him while I went inside as fast as I could without making any sudden moves to retrieve the collar. I stopped exactly two arm-lengths from Hubby and handed him the collar, which he managed to put back on Casanova, where it has remained since.
Still, I'd have given anything to be a fly on the wall at Loverboy's house when he reappeared the next morning wearing the collar that had been missing for two weeks! To this day, I have no idea where he lives.

Actually, they're in Michigan right now. They were able to leave on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, the majority of the cats my parents have had haven't been too nice--to others, especially! :) On Mother's Day, we all stood in the foyer and talked to her in the living room while she hissed and growled at us for being about 15 feet away from her. It was pretty funny, though, that all of these adults were standing as still as possible all to see Psycho Kitty (Queen Tut, actually) :)
She was so upset about losing Zippy (although happy he found a nice, safe home) but it also gave her the feeling of what it would be like to have a kitty who actually likes you and wants to be a part of your life.

5:30? Why in the world would you be getting up at a 'sparrow's fart' (according to the ladies in the cafe) when it's summer break?
*hearing the theme of 'The Dating Game' in my head now :)*

Does that mean that you get more breaks throughout the school year? If so, I wish me had year-round school. Other than the summer giving me the time(hopefully) to get some medical problems taken care of, I'd rather go year round.

Have a feeling there are some stories there GK! Sweet Dreams!
FH I think your Mom deserves a nice lap kitten. It is good that people will take those unfriendly kittens too, but a nice lap cat would be a nice change. Teaser is unfriendly. She will sit next to me, but I am not allowed to touch her--she doesn't hiss, instead she makes this awful growl! Maybe when she gets back from Michigan she will feel like thinking about a lap kitten.
Have to ask since I am from Michigan--where did they go?
-
Uh, no, actually. I earn about 11 hours of paid time off (that's either sick leave or personal time) per month, and nine company-paid holidays per year. All told, it comes to about four week's worth. No teacher planning days, either--that has to happen when the kids are on the monthly field trip--if we aren't chosen to chaperone. If we are, then oh, well.
-
Jackson--that's where I was born, but I don't remember living there. I've visited there a few times.
Psycho Kitty (Queen Tut) was a beautiful Maine Coon who was inherited from the kids across the street when their mother died. The woman had a seizure and fell out of the bed and broke her neck. Tut had been coming over to my parents garage for a while and the kids asked my Dad if he'd take her. Little did they know that she was so psycho---they definitely think she was either abused or raised in a bad cattery place.
Well, I'd better try to get to sleep, too. I have 2 doctor's appts. tomorrow and I'm already shaking about the second one :(

Still, FH, there are bennies, and they're big: no TAKS testing (although we do have to align lesson plans to the TEKS), and no TELPAS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our students don't stay with us long enough to assess. Most are in and out within a few weeks.
And now, I must say "good night"--I mean it!

Ginny, great to see you posting more regularly again. I was missing your razor sharp sense of humour.
SM, we are starting to get H1N1 passed on through the community now rather than through people returning from overseas travels. So indirectly linked to travellers, ie no known contact. Taking precautions now whenever I'm out, washing hands etc.Posted 2 years ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

I was just thinking about that, GK. What a relief. I called my principal in April to let her know that I was going to be out for a few days for health reasons (with a note, although I didn't even need it) and the only thing 'that woman' mentioned was asking me about how we're going to get the kids ready for TAKS. I rarely miss and that's all she said. Needless to say, when I got pink eye, I made sure to take every day I could suck out of it ;)

Not that far from Battle Creek where my hubby and I grew up. I haven't been back in several years now. I remember when you first posted about Psyco Kitty! She was a handful and that is putting it mildly! I love going to Michigan for vacation, but never what to live there again.

Goodnight SM, sweet dreams.

Hi, MS and anyone else still lingering. I just got back from my hula class a short time ago. We are in a new space that is much better than the gymnasium we have been using for our class since last September. I see that Airy is getting ready to fire up her sewing machine. I need to do the same! There are about four different costume pieces that each of us needs to make for our luau event on August 1. I have a friend in the class who has never sewed in her life and I am making hers as well. Good thing they are very simple! lol

Peeks in, all's quiet on the homefront with kitties lazing about, tails twitching as only cat's tails can do :) Going to lie down for a nap and then hopefully back up again in a couple of hours, if that doesn't happen may the late night shifters sleep well and morning to the very early cafe peeps :)
