  1. Well, good morning everyone! Hot apple strudel is fresh from the oven, here comes Greta with it now :-)

There's coffee and tea, juices and kitties! Francois is here to make custom-order omelettes and waffles, and Brigitte is bringing in a huge platter of fresh fruit!

  3. Sorry to hear that MC. It's raining here, and I would have loved to turn over and snuggle deeper under the blankies this morning :-)

  4. Morning MC and Siobhan. Sorry to hear about your headache MC. Stay in bed and snuggle with the girls.
Siobhan, I hear you. It's raining here and will for the next 3 days. I would have loved to snuggle in bed a while longer. However the circus got up early today. I just fed Abbie and now have to feed Maddie and eventually get both of us dressed...
    Be back soon..

  12. Hi everyone! *picks up an agency kitty to snuggle* I would love some strudel, thank you Greta. Bummer about the headache, MC; I hope it subsides soon.
The sun is out today, yay - but clouds and showers later, boo!
Leela saw her first bear early this morning! I heard him trying to get into our garbage can so I got up, picked up sleeping beauty and went to the window. As soon as she saw him, she woke right up!

  13. Morning, all! I do wish Hoover would come home to Jadete, the big world is no place for an indoor kitty!

Ooh, strudel, yum. I'll take a slice, and a mug of coffee, pretty please. CM, I agree there had better be a doggie bag for you tonight :0

MC, I'm sorry you're still hurting {{{MC}}} I wish I could wave a magic wand and make both our heads stop hurting. Dumb heads.

The weather is actually decent right now, which is great because it feels like it's been raining nonstop for a month.

  14. Good Morning One and All!!
I sure hope you feel better as the day goes on, MC!
Joan, I remember seeing one bear around here and that was when our kids were little....we do see wolves and coyotes, though.
Sure is a dreary day here, too :(

  15. Hi Katt, Kilroy and Joan.
Awww, Leela saw her first bear..I think I would have woke right up too!
I hope Hoover comes home soon too Kilroy, I just worry so much about all the animals out in the world...and when it's one of ours, I feel 10x worse...poor little guy. I know Jadete is just worried to death.
Well at least it's dreary most places, so we are not alone...lol.

  16. Hubby's meeting his former supervisor for "Beers n Bitchin'" after work today :-) We just heard on the news two days ago that his school system did vote to outsource the evening custodians...23 people out of work. Day shift is being retained for now....but we don't know how long. There is a new outsourcing company coming in.

The outsourced cleaning company is doing the school cleaning as 'housekeeping', which means it's cheaper, but they do less. The teachers are probably going to have to learn how to deal with blood-borne pathogens themselves, because there may be only one permanent custodian per building and they can't be everywhere at once....and you can't leave blood or vomitus for the housekeepers in the evening at $8 an hour.

What a sorry state our budget is in... housekeepers won't resurface the gym floors, pull out the bleachers for events, clean up the cafeteria at lunchtime, clean the theater between rehearsals and performances... parents are going to need to learn to get accustomed to a dirty school.

  17. Awww, Leela. Did you growl at the big, scary bear? {{Leela}}

    Morning, Joan. Bears? Yikes!

Posted 9 months ago by Kilroy #

  18. Sio, we have had some similar stuff going on too. It's a shame. Custodians take a lot of pride in their work and it really shows. The schools are a wreck all summer as they move furniture to clean, but right before school starts the school shines from top to bottom! I've taken pictures because I'm so proud of them. If anyone wants to know what "school people" do all summer, you are welcome to shaddo, er shadow me anytime.
Leela was very excited at seeing the bear! We saw one over the weekend wandering around the yard while we having breakfast. Good thing the weather hasn't been very nice; we often eat outside!

  19. Morning everyone! Waves. Please pass me some strudel! I wish there was a place in town where I could go buy some strudel and I don't know how to make it so virtual strudel is the only kind I can have this morning!

So proud of Leela for scaring off that big ole bear! I am sure she is just gloating to herself over her success.

  20. Good Morning...
If there is any strudel left I'll take a smidge. My co-worker was eating an apple yest and I mentioned I liked my apples in a pie, cake or as today's treat! My sister's cat Snuffy chased a deer years ago...it was hilarious!

Posted 9 months ago by jeankit #

  21. Good morning, Everyone! Strudel? I haven't had that in years!!! May I please have a piece with some vanilla ice cream and a mug of Earl Gray tea?

MC, I'm so sorry. Just take it easy today.

    A bear???? ACK!!!!!!

Another thrilling day on tap here - yet one more trip to the grocery store. Yippee.

  22. Actually, black bears are fascinating to watch. They usually do not attack unless provoked. The rule is, if you see a cub, get out of there - mama is nearby and you don't want to be between them! We occasionally have "nusance bears" who have to be trapped and relocated. It's mostly the fault of humans; if we make our garbage accessible to them, they will keep coming and will become accostomed to humans. I often put garbage in the freezer till garbage day.

  23. Well good morning. It has been a busy one.

MC sorry to hear that you are in such pain again. Perhaps a trip the the doctor is needed.

Siobahn I know what you mean about the schools. The head of custodian of our building is assigned to the hall I am in--I am the luckiest teacher ever!! I would do anything for that man! He makes my room shine and he also holds the kids to high expectations. I don't let them move until the room is picked up after each class. Well he broke his arm and severely damaged him shoulder. He was out for 6 weeks. The sub took out the trash ever 3-4 days. The room was never vacuumed until I did it. The new girl actually was sitting at my desk with her feet propped on it talking on the cell phone! I told her to get out and I would do my own room! After 4 weeks of her I couldn't stand it. I found out that everyone was having the same problem. I asked my principal what was going on. She was fired and we were told to do everything ourself until they got someone else contracted. Not that I mind cleaning my own room, but I sure can say I missed having my garbage emptied! When Alfred came back (I saw him come in the building--stopped my class and ran to the hall to welcome him back) I swore I would do anything to help him! I was there the day he took every piece of furniture from my room to clean the carpet. I made sure that I wlecomed him back with a party!! That man is the greatest. He takes care in his work, and he really is the greatest with the kids.

  24. In Ruidoso my daughter's band director pulled his pickup up to the cabin to unload. He took in the luggage and came back for his cooler, but there was a black bear in the back of the pickup already checking out the cooler. He had only had the truck for 2 weeks--the scratches from that bear are still there a year later.

  25. SM, I've often wondered why there isn't a recognition day for school custodians. They don't just push brooms and clean up puke. Without them, well, you have seen first-hand what happens. The buildings would literally fall apart. *Hi Alfred! You rock!*

Posted 9 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  26. You have no idea how true that is! He did take a can out of my trash the first day I was there. I learned that he collects them for turn in at the recycle center. I set up a collection area so that everyone in our hall collects them rinses and turn them in to him. It is something so simple to do. When ever we have a team celebration (we do one each month) I make sure he is invited. He is every bit as much a teacher as I am. He teached the kids to pick up after themselves and to respect themselves and others.

  27. AMEN to that ladies!! I think custodians are the unsung heros that really don't get thanked enough. In High School I wanted to make some extra money so that I could pay my way thru college so I volunteered to help clean the school for the next year. Let me tell you, I had a whole new appreciation for the custodians after moving all that furniture and cleaning. Heck, we removed all the books from the shelves in the library so we could move the shelves to clean the carpet. THEN we had to go back and put those darn books on the shelves in alphabetical order! AAARGH! But I did learn a lot from that and I always go out of my way for any custodian no matter where I am. Even if to say hi or help in any little way I can!

  28. Our night custodian is always asking me about Leela! I leave pictures of her to see and I sometimes print out the TDK of the day or a pic from ICanHasCheezburger.

Posted 9 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  29. Joan that is too funny, I have ICanHasCheezburger on my bulletin board. The one about grammar and I has a fierz!
