Sprechen sie Deutsch, MCW? Ein bischen? (not sure of the spelling there). MC, where does your family hail from in Deutschland?

ACK - German!!! Well, I have seen the movie Das Boot about a gazillion times and know quite a few phrases from that movie. But, unless you are directing a submarine attack, they aren't of much use.

Stinkin' French...... I still haven't forgiven them for the Normandy thing.

Ah..je parle Francais un petit peus (spelling on that last word). Four years of high school French. Of course it is almost all gone. I speak a few phrases in three languages - German, French, and Spanish. I can tell you off in Spanish and call you a not so nice name in German.

Ha ha ha !!! As long as you can order food and ask where the toilet is, that's all you really need!

Erm...'cos kleine was one of the few german words I knew? LOL!

LOL, SMM! I do speak Spanish but I have learned lots of useful phrases from my growing up years in El Paso while reading inscriptions on bathroom walls. Using those phrases really improved my running time, too!

I know how to ask for the bathroom, how much, where is..., and another beer please. All the tourist phrases of course in addition to some other phrases learned. I have an aunt in Germany who speaks very little English.
MCW, do you listen to eine kleine nachtmusik by Mozart? I have a cassette tape of his music. I really enjoyed listening to it. Since I no longer own a cassette player, have to find a converter to change to MP3 or CD. A project that I am hoping to work on in the next couple of years.

English schools break up in July. State schools usually finish towards the end of the month, but because I work in a private school we finish earlier. My last day of term is 10th July - Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We get 7/8 weeks summer holiday, state schools get 6. We are start back sometime in the first week of September.

I do know that piece of music SMM, it's another reason I used that word - eine & kleine sound so wonderful together.
Had a maths teacher at school called Mr Klein - and yes, he was only about 5' !!

I only speak German and French reasonably well, although I can just about cope in Italian, Spanish and Russian (literally asking for food, drink and the toilet!). I so admire multi-lingual people.

PMuk, do you actually get to enjoy your summer break or do you have to prepare for the next term? I wish here in the States they would have us be at least tri-lingual. The strange thing is they don't have us learning languages till we are in high school (or at least that was the case when I was in school) when it should be started as soon as possible. I wish my mom had spoken to me in German when I was a child so at least I would have that in addition to English and later on French. oh well. If I am to ever get the chance to travel, will make sure someone in the group speaks the language fluently.

Meine Familie stammt aus Alsace-Lorraine. Sud Deutschland. Die Familie Mutter stammt aus Greece and Yugoslavia. I am a mutt! Look much more like my mom's family as far as the hair color, eye color but not the nice dark Greek "tanned" look!

Good night MCW. Sweet dreams!
MC, I visited Strasbourg back when I was 15. I really liked the city then. I took wonderful pictures of the cathedral but unfortunately left the roll of film behind where I was staying. My aunt is two hours south of Frankfurt near the Black Forest.

Wow, when do you want to go visit her? I will go with you and maybe between the two of us we could "communicate" with the locals! :D
