The owner who turned in this girl said she is a16 year old purebred Himalayan.

They said they just don't want her anymore.

This just really makes me angry.

Does anyone know of any rescue for a senior kitty?

I am not sure if the kitty is still there. If you are interested in helping this cat be loved and cared for in her last years please e-mail contact, call shelter or go there.
I don't know how anyone could do this. There could be circumstances that we don't know about but honestly it seems cruel.

  2. Augh! Between that and the poor sweet puppy featured on the blog who needs surgery because some **** kicked it, this is enough to make me mad at the whole universe :(

  3. How sad, hate the throw away society that some of these people seem to have grown up in. Hope that someone adopts her to make her last years pleasant ones.

  4. Grrrrr..this angers me also..I don't know of any right now but I'd be happy to help in surfing the net to try and find a place more suited to a senior kitty.

  5. How could a family abandon a 16 year old family member?

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  6. Soxsmom, my thoughts exactly, I hope that 'what goes around, comes around' to the person(s) who would do this without a thought for the elderly kitty.

  7. This is SO darn sad!!! A throw-away society for sure, Deb! It just is not right! GRRRR!

  8. The way some people give up pets makes me so mad some times! I have a friend that got a wonderful cat from the shelter, he was 5 years old and they gave him up because he got too big and wasn't a kitten anymore! He was the classic big Tuxie, a real sweetheart, how can you toss that out?

  9. This makes me so mad!! Major unfluffy thoughts for this family who would traumatize their senior cat. The cat has maybe 1-4 years left and at age 16 why would you do this? I read Craigslist for the pet section and it just breaks my heart to read about people who are giving up their pets because they either found a partner who is allergic to their pet or they are moving. As others have said, we have become such a throwaway society. If they can do this to their pets, what's next, dear old dad who is too troublesome for the family? Trufflesmom, I have a big tuxxie lovebug kitty (Sylvester in my avatar) and he weighs 16lbs and I wouldn't give him up for all the money in the world.

  10. What a sweet kitty, this is heartbreaking. Her owners must be idiots to abandon her this way. I hope she finds a good home. I echo everyone here, we are in a society that throws away what they don't want but I can only hope and pray one day Karma bites some of these folks who don't understand the value of loyalty and life.

  11. Maybe when these heartless so called humans achieve old age and infirmity they will be abandoned at the "Shelter".

  12. Hope I'm managing that "Shelter."

  13. Most people make me sick(except for TDK folks). I', already taking care of an 11 year old hemi because the owner didn't want her anymore either. It has taken me so long to gain her trust and she is still so timid and fearful,it's heartbreaking.

  14. That's so sad, poor kitty. Imagine how she must feel.

When my Sebastian started getting older and showing his age (bumping into things, hollering in the middle of the night for no reason, getting snappy from time to time) I never dreamed of giving him up. I just made him as comfortable as I could. He was my baby, I couldn't even imagine doing that to him - or to any of my kitties. It IS heartbreaking BC.

  15. Some people just need that flying b**ch slap!! Emma, I'll help you manage that shelter! **devious laughter builds**

  16. Thanks everyone for reading the post. It amazes me also that people can be cruel to pets. Then there are people like all of you here and the rescuers who try to help the abandoned animals. It is overwhelming. I keep looking at the ending happy stories. Some are amazing. Anyways if anyone wants to help the kitty posting this on other forums or any place where animal lovers go is a good idea. Or if you know anyone who has a rescue or lives in Georgia forwarding this is good to.

Huddy's Mamma, Love that is what they need. You know I've lived with two elderly cats and know they can be very vulnerable at that age.

  17. What's another: I inquired about her and they're hoping to get a rescue or breeder to get her and as long as they have space she is ok,couldn't get any time frame. The lady said she was "grouchy" I said "so is my other one, wouldn't you be? She laughed and was nice. I don't know the logistics of this but if it looks like she's running out of time could somebody pick her up in Ga and maybe travel brigade her to me? Or am I nuts? I just can't stand the look on confused look on her face. :(

  18. Last year while waiting at the vet with one of my cats waiting for our appointment turn, there was a middle aged woman there with a big old orangie male cat she was filling out paperwork to have put down because her new husband to be didn't like cats. The staff were trying to talk her into giving the cat to a no kill shelter but she couldn't be bothered. She was adamant about putting the cat to sleep.

I was so mad and downright sick. If I weren't already far past my financial limits coping with four cats, three of whom have very expensive special medical needs, I'd have said right then and there to give me the cat. I almost did anyway. But I can't save the whole world and had to make myself settle for prayer.

The entire vet staff were as upset as I was and the vet was downright disgusted with the woman. But since the owner made clear that if this vet didn't put the cat to sleep that she'd find someone who would or "let my fiance take care of it" the vet told me that in such cases she goes ahead and accepts such animals for euthanasia so that it is done with compassion and gentleness.

  19. Sigh.you're wise Marnet and I really already know this. I'll feel fortunate to have rescued my sweet himmy,Mercedes because I really don't have the resources for another at this time.

  20. Emma, I will help you run that "shelter" too. What comes around goes around. Karma will get that Himalayan's owner. It breaks my heart for all the scared cats and kittens that get dumped because someone didn't want to continue taking care of them. A cat lives on average for 15-20 years. People do not seem to understand that once you adopt a cat, it is a lifetime of love and responsibility.

  21. How horrible--a pox on this person! Poor thing needs to live out her remaining years somewhere secure. Too bad she is not closer to the Wisconsin area, Specialty Purebred Cats would take her in. If I were not in an apartment I would take her (I'm already over the limit!) Marsha, I am sure that Trucker Transport would help bring her to you http://www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org/

  22. My Max and Kinker (RIP) were both turned in the Animal Shelter when their owner was no longer able to care for them and the grown children didn't want OLD animals. Max was 8 and Kinker was 10 and had never been apart since Max was a baby. The grown children told the AC to just put them to sleep if they couldn't find them a home....well I knew everyone at the AC very well and they called me to see if I could take them in, even as a foster...after giving them time to try and find a home (less than a week) and on their last day I picked them both up. Kinker died after 4 years at the age of 14 and was a special boy in my heart, and Max is going strong @ 15 yrs young. In fact my estranged husband told me he would come back to live with me IF I got RID of the cats because he has allergies....well he was politely (ok maybe not so) told NO THANK you, they are better family and I would be damned if I threw any of this crew away. Sorry for going on so, it just chaps my behind when people throw away their pets, family members, and what have you because its not convenient anymore :(

  23. OMG Marnet, what I scene at the vet's I feel for you. You sound like a very kindhearted person who is already doing your part to help kitties. That woman sounds like a monster, think if I was the vet I'd take the cat and say I was going to euthanize it, but then find a home for him behind the scenes. How sad. I know it's mean spirited, but I hope that woman's husband-to-be ended up kicking her to the curb, the old witch!!

Posted 2 years ago by Annie R #

  24. Oops Marnet, I meant "what a scene", I was so mad i couldn't type straight!

Posted 2 years ago by Annie R #

  25. I emailed them. Georgia is a ways away, but I'm in love with her face. And I know for a fact that a 16 year old won't make it long in a shelter.

Posted 2 years ago by MouchoisMelvin #

  26. I don't know ultimately whether the vet put that cat to sleep or not. I do know the vet has a free kitten adoption program going. People tend either to dump kittens at their door or bring in some they find dumped in parks. She keeps them in quarantine long enough to make sure they are healthy, giving them complete medical care needed, and then puts them out on display in a pair of big roll around cages with multiple levels of ledges. Most kittens and momma cats get adopted right away. A few take longer but they have a home at the vet until they do find good homes.

The staff there take great loving care of any such kitties, so they are always well socialized and affectionate kitties.

The last two, a pair of orange tabby brothers that look identical except for the most minor of differences in size and one having one whisker with a black base rather than all white, seem to have become permanent office cats. Several other office cats had died of old age or, in one case, of cancer in recent months prior to their arrival. It left only one lonely office cat who took quite a friendly likely to the brothers. So, eventually the boys came out of the adoption cage and have free roam of the place, apparently to stay.

I am one of the few non-staff with the privilege of going behind the scenes to fuss over very small kittens not big enough to be out on public display and also to take any older ones on display out of the cage to hold and play with. I can't resist. I always have to get my "kitten fix" for the day if any are over there when I drop in to pick up meds or special food for my four cats.

  27. I sure wish she were in California! I pray that sweet girl finds a home.

Posted 2 years ago by caroline #

  28. Not only find a home but find one where she'll be treated like a very special kitty with tons of gentle love. Poor thing.

Yes, when they get old they become more work, more messes to clean up, more vet bills, perhaps have personality changes just like old people do. So what? If they are worth loving when young and cute, young and healthy, they are worth loving in old age!!!

Posted 2 years ago by Marnet #

  29. ((( Marnet }}}, you are truly a friend to kitties, bless you!!

Posted 2 years ago by Annie R #

  30. MM, thank you for trying to help her! I guess we should be grateful she didn't just dump the poor thing in the street, as so many have done.
