Excessive drooling?

(14 posts)
  1. My indoor (always indoor) cat was drooling a lot. I woke up to find she had a huge puddle of drool. Im concerned. Usualy she and her sister have a little, they both seem to have similar "spring" allergies that I do but I have never seen so much drool. I have no idea what to make of this.

    advice and help please?

  2. Can you check inside her mouth, Chey? She may have sore teeth or inflamed gums, that would be my first suggestion. Good luck!

  3. I will. she also drools when I am petting her and she is purring up a storm and I let my cats sleep with me wich is a rare treat as they are normaly not allowed but I will check her gums and get back to you

  4. These websites might help...

    http://www.vetinfo.com/cdrool.html

If it doesn't last long, Chey, and she's fine otherwise, I wouldn't worry. If she keeps drooling excessively or there looks to be something wrong inside her mouth, check with the vet. But if she's normally a drooly girl (love the drooly ones!) it's probably nothing bad. Good luck!

  5. nothing abnormal in her mouth. Her teeth seem a little bigger but this girl has always been the late bloomer for growth, appertite and everything. just in the last half a year she has finaly reached adult sized cat and she always sucks and chews everyone's fingers like she is teething. plus she is the bubblegum girl always looks like she is chewing gum. She drinks lots of water and she just ate a bunch of crunchy cat food like she always does. I may switch back over to dental care variaty of the catfood my cats eat.

I will keep an eye on this. my cats are also probably stressed with our moving again. I hope thats all it is

  7. Sounds like a plan, the websites mention stress can exacerbate drooling. Give her some headbonks from me!

I think it's quite likely she was in raptures over being allowed to sleep with you! Probably she drooled happily all night long (I've been known to do that... ;-) )

    Hope you've moved somewhere nice!

  10. gah she is drooling again. She let me have a good look at her mouth again. She has always had a weird bite. Are there bugs that might cause drooling if ingested?

  11. im calling in sick from my placement. I am going to see what is going on with kizzie. I just need to be home right now. I dont think I could cope in placement anyways cause I would be too worried.

  12. ((Chey)) I wish I had some advice, but I would call the vet and ask..I have done that before instead of taking them in and if they need to be seen they will let you know. I don't blame you for calling off, I would too, I worry about my babies too..we all do. Hugs to you. Keep us updated.

  14. Vet suggested a couple things... 1. she is a drooler and since her appertite has been improving with my timed food out, she could just be eating and drinking more, thus drooling more. 2. use a clean never used garden glove and let my normaliy chompy kitty bite the glove and use that oppertunity to massage her gums regularly.

The vet said since I have seen her eat, sleep, drink and play in her usualy upbeat way, that it isnt too worrysome but to keep an eye out for deterioration.

Vet said if I wanted to, I could set out a bowl of kitten milk (I have kmr from my fosters few months ago)

I will keep an eye on my little minx. Im glad I took the day off too. I would have been way to distracted to focus on teaching a room full of preschoolers and most of them were going on a feild trip so noone was gonna be there really and the ones who were would probably just play outside with the two regular teachers. I will just have 3 days of placement left but i was fine with it.
