  1. Hello Cat and Kitten Mom's and Dad's!

It has been awhile. My beautiful 3 bundles of joy are hopefully now down to two. As one is on a "trial run" of adoption with a friend. As long as he can find a cheap vet for shots, his cat takes to the kitten and his roomie and my good friends dog doesn't eat the lil one she has a permanent home. We are now minus Barney (the calico) for a couple of days and hopefully permanently.

Sam's eyes are a gorgeous blue, and he is super attached to me. I think he decided he adopted me about the time I chose to keep him. As I write he is asleep in between my undershirt and my other shirt on my lap. My 6 yr old male has seemed to take to him, and was even caught licking Sam's head once. He still hisses a lot at the kittens though.

Lil' One, the semi-runt of the group is loveable as all get out now, and her long haired torti beauty is really coming out. She has become less of a biter and so wild and more calm and loves to be cuddled and held now. She is missing in action somewhere in the 500 sq ft apartment, lord only knows the trouble she is causing right now.

My concern for writing, is seeking litter box advice. Until now I have used the wood chip type pellets in a shoe box with no interest on the kittens behalf. I would stimulate, place them in it, and wipe with paws and theyd get out. I even began placing feces in the box, still didnt click. They poop and pee near the box (especially pee in one corner) but no interest in the box.

Today i got a small real litter box, and put regular clumping litter in it. I set them both in it and now I am wondering what my plan of attack is. Any advice?

Secondly, at six weeks with still working on litter habits do i stimulate or find other means to try to teach?

Any and all advice is wanted!

    Thanks!

  2. Nice to see you posting again Ken and hope the new home works out for the calico, I hope you are joking about being eaten by dog...As far as the litter goes are you taking their paws and gently showing them the motions of raking through the litter? make sure they are big enough to easily get in and out of the box and you might try a different type of litter as well.

  3. I was joking about the dog eating the kitten. The dog immediately walked up to all 3 kittens and licked their heads. At which point all 3 kittens proceeded to explode in puffs of fur and hissing at the dog. Quite humorous.

Thanks for posting, ill be sure to spend more time raking with their paws.

  6. Hi Ken, thanks for the update. Fingers crossed Barney has a permanent home now.

I'm sure I've read on other threads that clumping litter is bad for very young kittens...help TDK, am I right or going mad?

  7. No, you're right MCW, the little ones can eat it and it clumps up in their tummies.
