   They want to prove the existence of "dark matter" and need to work far underground to be shielded from cosmic rays that can interfere with detection of hypothesized dark matter particles.

   Now I just have to wonder, what better place to study dark matter than down deep in a dark hole in the ground? :-)

   Wow, I don't think I could work in a place like this...I would feel so enclosed!! but you're right, it's the best place to study dark matter!

   Yep. That's about 45 miles up the road from us. I knew a couple guys that worked in the mine before it shut down. It's a LOONNNNGGGG way down to the bottom.
