  1. We had a really bad vet experience when we took our dogs in this weekend. There were many, small things that added up at first to our disappointment. One being they were too rough with our lab. Granted she gets very scared and isn't the easiest to handle but they they were pulling her around by the sruff pretty rough and she yelped a few times. Then they said they were going to take into a back room. We said no way, thinkin if they were that rough right in front of us what are they gonna do when we're not there. Anyway, on top of that after having been there for over an hour just for a few shots we just paid and left cuz we wanted to get out of there. On the way home we noticed they charged us over $70 for "wellness exams" for both dogs together. We went in there for shots, not physicals. All they did was stick a thermometer up their bums, lift their gums to glance at teeth and look in eyes and ears with flashlight. That is worth over $70? We called back to question the bill and wanted to know why no one told us we would be charged for an exam. They put the "manager" on the phone who was the other main vet of the clinic that was not even involved in our apt at all. We tried to explain to him why we were unhappy and why we were questioning the exams. He was so rude and condisending, he told us we were "being ridiculous" for questioning the fees and that is their normal policy for first time clients. We said that's fine if that's policy but you need to communicate that to your customers so they know what to expect on their bill, no one told us about this policy. I've never heard a so called professional speak to someone the way he did. We let him know we were appauled with the way we were being treated and would let everyone we know not to come to his clinic to which he responded, "You'd better be careful what you say" What?? who says that? Is that some sort of threat? To top it off he hung up on us.

Anyway, I'm sorry this is so long, but is there anything we can do to report him??

  2. That is outragous!!! I would make my rounds to all dog parks and pet stores and all other places that pet owners can be found and let it be known!!!

  3. Can you report to state medical board. I know in Illinois you can file a complaint directly online, email it and then they review it and call you. You may want to see if your state has something similiar. Go to your state Medical Licensing Site and look for at minimum a phone number. Then you can call and they can direct you where to go from there. Best of luck! Keep us updated!

  4. What a terrible experience. Maybe you can call your local news center to get them to do a story on the treatment.

  5. Report him to the Better Business Bureau for unfair practice with the no notice charges.

  6. Review their service on websites like Yelp as well. I look for sites like that when looking for new service providers so that will get the word out.

  7. There should be some licensing board for vets like their is for humans' physicians; I would find out where it is and report this practice.

And a negative report is only considered slander if it is not true, so you have no legal reason to be careful about saying anything.

  8. TM has a good suggestion: A bad review on the website can be devastating. Also, as SM advises, consult the Better Business Bureau (a vet does have a business) and register a complaint.

And, if you have a local station that has a pet-watch program, you might want to discuss this with them.

Also, since you've posted this on TDK, anyone on TDK in your area can send you an email to find out the name of this yutz.

No matter how good (or bad) the vet is, he is not being well served by his rude manager, especially if that person is another vet in the same practice. The monetary fallout may be enough to get their attention.

  9. Better Business Bureau. Also, what is that Annie's list thing I keep seeing on TV? It is some sort of review by people like us I think that have good or bad experiences. What a rude vet clinic!

  10. Thanks everyone. We did write a review on a site about the clinic and what happened. They responded to our review saying everything we said was untrue and that we verbally ok'd the exams, which we clearly didn't since we didn't understand why were being charged. It's his word against ours and he wasn't even in the room. He also claimed that we were 30 mins late and they worked us in to the schedule anyway and that is also untrue. We were 10-12 min late and even so what does that have anything to do with the exam charges and why would that give him a reason to treat us that way? Also in his response he wrote that we became "irate" when he refused to refund us. He's clearly never seen me irate before because he would surely know the difference between that and frustration over the lack of communication and customer service we received. He said who is the one threatening who here because you said you'd tell everyone you know if we didn't give your money back, which is not what we said either. We told him we were unhappy with the way we were treated and would tell people that. I guess the site we chose to review them on is run by them or something because today they deleted our review
AND another woman's review that was against them. How is that a legitmate review site if they can just delete what they don't want people to see? We would have no reason to go out of our way to write a review and make things up.

Thank you for letting me vent. I'm just still floored that a supposed professional would act like that. Maybe the Better Business Bureau...

  11. I'd definitely make some noise be it with the Better Business Bureau....a website....or local dog parks...All of the above would be even better. There's no excuse for the sanctimonious attitude of any so called professional especially with the rough treatment of your poor lab. Shame on these people. Don't be intimidated!!!

  12. You and your dogs were treated badly. However, an exam fee is standard practice when you bring them in for shots, but it is supposed to be a real physical exam--listen to heart, lungs, look in ears, eyes, mouth, palpitate internal organs, check butt, and ask you many questions on the animal's daily routine and behavior. I would complain to your local veterinary society and ASPCA.

  13. I would report to them to your state vet board who licenses vets as well as post to the Better Business Bureau and on any online sites such as Yelp, Yahoo or City Search where you can post your opinion of your vet visit as well as the local ASPCA.

It is standard practice to have an exam but they do what others have said...check the ears, eyes, nose, mouth/teeth, paws, listening to the heart, lungs and checking of the bladder and such.

What a goon of a vet to threaten you with "you better be careful with what you say". Sorry you had such a bad experience. I too have found that there are good vets and not so good ones.

  14. Ama, what site did you write the review on?

  15. That's fine if the exam is standard and we told him that but we also said there really should be a more clear communication of that especially to new customers and what fees are involved. Our regular vet didn't charge us extra for a general once over if we were there for other things so we didn't know any different. I'm most upset about the way were talked to on the phone. We will continue to take them to our old vet who we loved. It's just a little out of the way since we moved, but worth it as I learned the hard way. The first review I posted was on a site called insiderpages and I guess the business have the ability to respond and delete posts if they want. I've post a review on both Yelp and yahoo now. I don't want to spend more of my energy on something so negative than I have to but I did feel like I had to say something. I've never been talked to that way by anyone, let alone someone I've never met and supposed to be professional. That was the most flustering part. Otherwise I probably would have just sucked it up and gotten over it and just not taken them there again and that's it.
