Thor's Day Cafe June 25

  1. Good morning everyone! Kitties are lounging in the air conditioned cafe, stretching and yawning and looking for mischief (or loving kitty mommies).

We have fresh strawberries and cream and champagne, in honor of Wimbledon, and hearty country breakfast fixin's ready and waiting!

My little old lady Tansey was panting yesterday, it was 96 degrees and about 102 with the heat index. She still wanted to eat, but her little sides were just moving so quickly....has anyone else experienced this? I got worried.

  2. Poor baby, the heat is prob getting to her, mine have taken to lying in front of the fans, on the floor tiles, or in front of the humidifier because it puts out cool air...morning Siobhan

  3. Morning, folks. Poor Tansey, heat is hard on humans *and* kitties.

  4. Morning all! It's hot one here today and the A/C has already kicked on. Supposed to cool down by next week but holy cow, I don't know if I will last that long.
    Awww Poor Tansey...precious baby.
Well Maddie is up and I must tend to her and I am sure Abbie will be up soon, so I will check in when I can. Hugs to all, have a wonderful day!!

  5. I think we definitely need to figure out how to redistribute weather among our various TDKers - send the heat/rain/whatever where it's needed and give other folks a break.

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  6. LOL..... let me know when you figure that out Kilroy! my 94, with 105 index is killing us!......

..... I got to deal with plumbing problems in NC today, hard to work from another location.... hope my trusty handyman is available! aaarrrggghhh!

  7. Morning ladies! It's official, I called in "sick" today. My head feel like it could explode and I feel like sh**. Have a call out to the neurosurgery answering service but I doubt the oncall will know what to do with me because he knows NOTHING about me. OH well, have my kitty nurses on stand by. May I please have some of those strawberries and cream please?

  8. Hi Sio, AZ, Kilroy, CM, AV & MC! A quick hello and agency kitty snuggle, and I'm off to work. Summer hours start tomorrow; early outs on Fridays (as long as the deadlines are met!).
    Leela sends hugs to all!

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  12. AV, that is the way I feel sometimes! My clothes seem to reproduce in the laundry basket! How does that happen! Good luck packing her, no crying allowed. I think I am gonna go back to bed!

  13. Good morning! It's not quite as hot here as it has been, but it's still uncomfortably warm. I don't know how I ever lived without air conditioning.
    Pass those strawberries and cream.
MC, so sorry you are ill today. Does it help to lie still with a cool cloth over your eyes?

  14. Hello to all that I have missed, good morning :)

MC, sorry that you aren't feeling well.

Posted 2 years ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  15. Sorry you're feeling yucky today, MC! You need a day at home with your girls!

Siobhan - Bob did that panting thing lst year when I didn't have te a/c in summer. I would wrap ice packs in a towel and lay them by him to cool him off. I also wiped him down with wet cold wsh cloths - seemed to help.

I'm watching Wimbledon and would love some strawberries and cream and champagne since I left NS too early last night to really enjoy the drinks I was offered :)

  16. Hi all, sorry to disappear, now I'm back.

MC, I'm sorry you're feeling bad. Good call staying home, I hope the ns on call guy can help, or that he'll contact your surgeon if necessary.

I just called the resort where Mike & I are going in VT, and they allow pets! Yay! It's an extra $20 a night, but that's OK. I think we're going to find out how well Georgie travels.

GD, sorry about Gym Guy last night. I had a thought, maybe he's shy too? Don't give up on him too soon.

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  17. I think he is, Kilroy, which doesn't help matters.
Yay Georgie is going on vacation!!!! :)

  18. Finally Thursday! It seems like this week took forever to get through. I have a test in an hour so off to last minute study!

Posted 2 years ago by gini #

  19. Yay Georgie!..... vaca for him too!.... I've taken Abby on many trips (some "legal" and some "stealth") teehee...... she does great!.... my best advise, is bring Georgie's favorite blanket or bed so he will have a familiar "place" to sleep.... the strange smells of new places seem to be the most upsetting thing at first to them...... Abby has a special blanket that she loves, and whereever we go, I always put it on the end of my bed (like it is at home) and she pretty much contains herself to either there, or her donut bed, which fits nicely in her carrier......

Good luck, take lots of pics!

  20. Thanks for the tips, AV. I want him to have a good time, not get freaked out. I'll take the cardboard box he's been sleeping in lately.

  21. I did a little internet searching on "feline panting" and found out that it's not a good sign when a kitty pants, but in some cases it's more alarming than in others. Because Tansey has hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure, she's more apt to pant in hot weather. We could get her checked for a heart problem, but we already -know- she's got conditions that will eventually cause heart failure, so at least I know now. She had a warm, wet nose and warm paw pads, but not overly so, considering hot hot it was yesterday. We put her in our air-conditioned bedroom for awhile last night and she liked it, but didn't want to stay. She -was- purring while panting, although kitties purr in stressful situations too.

I guess this is something we need to be aware of in our little senior citizen. Input and output are still very good, she isn't dehydrated and her appetite is VERY strong. Poops well, although STANKY! How can such a sweet little girl have such STANKY POO? (lol)

  22. Georgie, don't forget to take Bobby with you! You two will have so much fun!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  23. Make sure she's got plenty to drink, too, Siobhan.
Bobby pants and gets a warm, bright pink nose and paw pads like that, too, when it gets too hot for him - and Milo's done that, too. Bobby also pants when he's been storming around chasing Milo.
Because of the heat, Tansey is probably just overheated, but keep an eye on her. A few months ago, Bobby had the same symptoms. It wasn't hot out, so figured he had a fever. I took him to the vet and he had a very high fever that needed treatment.
So just keep an eye on her and try to keep er cool. (((Tansey)))

  25. Good Morning all..... Georgie gets to got on vacation! What a treat.....don't tell my fur babies..Poor Tansey... it is hard getting older...maybe a small fan in the room that she is in will help...MC, I hope you feel better soon....

  26. Prayers for Tansey and Siobahn.

MC I am glad to hear that you are listening to your body--remember you don't have to start out doing everything!! One step at a time!

GD! You left last night! You flash that smile of yours and I best you have him wrapped around your little finger!!

Kilroy I am so jealous!! I would love to go to an inn in Vermont! There are times I miss the East coast. Normally I am thankful to be in the South West, but there are those moments when I miss the beauty of the East coast.

CM did you see the LOL? They bumped the thread for you.

Joan try hitting control f5 and that should refresh all the avitars on the page, I had to do that the other day.

    Good Morning All!!

  27. Have a great time in Vermont Kilroy!

Had an incident with Shaddo and panting many years ago. He jumped up into my truck on a hot summer day while I was getting out and I didn't see him. When I looked for him a bit later, he wasn't supervising the project hubby was working on, which was where I presumed he was. Didn't come when I called so I got worried. (Meanwhile, Jiggs is following me around going "I'm here mama. Can I have a treat?) After calling and searching, we heard a faint croaking sound coming from my truck. His forearms were soaked from drool (I learned later that cat's don't have sweat glands; which is where panting comes in) and his tongue was black. We thought we lost him. I brought him inside, and put him on the tile floor. I padded him with a covered dry cool compress and offered him watered-down tuna water. It took a while, but he slowly cooled down, drank some water, relaxed the rest of the day, and lived to have many more adventures!

  28. Sorry I left, SM - had to close the gym!
I'll practice my smile for GG for Friday when he'll be back to work out. You'll have to cross everything again! :)

  29. Good Morning all...another steamy day in Milwaukee...fans are a going for
the kits who are zonked out. I took Crokey outside last nite like a good mom...he didn't try to jump thru the screen this AM...yay!
SIO...try to offer panting kits water, dab a bit on the fleshy part of ears/on
bottom of paw pads to cool off...some (at least my kits) seem to like it.
I'll have strawberries/cream, would like champaign, but am at work so java will do! Enjoy the day/evening wherever you are!
