Know how you feel AL. I grew up with the Jacksons--through all their changes. I know Michael is very odd, but I have loved his music.

I was a dance major the first time I went to college. This was the first song I ever used to choreograph a dance. Boy this brings back memories!
I didn't like what he had become. . .but there was a time when he was a force to be reckoned with in music, and that is what I mourn. :(

He was an oddity but I liked the Jackson 5 music and his earlier stuff. As he got "weirder", so did his music. When he went from white to black with no nose and the pedophile charges that's when I wasn't fond of him. A great loss none the less.

Vicki, that's what happens when you grow up in Indiana! LOL (I can say that having grown up in Indiana!)

I agree Vicki, a dance and music genius.

I was not a Michael Jackson fan or Jackson 5 fan by any stretch of even the most vivid of imaginations (I've always been a metal head, so when kids my age were listening to the Jackson 5 I was probably listening to Hendrix - lol).
However, I recognize that he was an icon with tons of talent. The fact that he didn't move me does nothing to diminish his passing in my eyes.
I wonder what will become of his children now?
Rest in peace, MJ.

I didn't realize his kids were 6,11, and 12 years old. They grew up fast! That is a horrible age to lose your dad, especially when you don't have a "mom" in your life. Gee, I hope someone good takes them in!

I am with you Vicki! Aunt Rebbie! NNGM isn't it crazy?

HM I adore Hendrix!! But you have to admit the man was the inventor of modern dance! And who will ever forget crotch grabbing! He never had a "normal" childhood by any stretch of the imagination. Wow--still in shock but my Off the Wall songs are being played on you tube--good to see him dance. They have one with Burn the Disco Down that shows several of his dance clips--love it!
He was the most talented, in my humble opinion, of the Jackson's--but he did get extremely weird--I may have to just play my Thriller album--if I can find a turntable around here to put it on--hehe--yes, I'm that old--it is a record, not tape or CD.

SM, my sister LOVED them and I thought she was going to hug the breath out of me when I scored 11th row tickets for the Victory Tour in '84 at the Houston Astrodome.
Here we are, two grown women 23 and 24 and my sister is up on her seat screaming like a teenager. "OMIGOD he LOOKED at me!!!!" It's a memory we cherish, because sis isn't a big concert goer. I think that may have been her first concert ever. So I'll be forever grateful that he brought her so much happiness. She is devastated over this.
Michael Jackson little known trivia: Alfonso Ribeiro taught him the moonwalk - yes he was just a little sprout then.

I'm going through videos on YouTube, listening to "Beat It" right now. In his prime, the man was amazing.

This takes me back to the day Elvis died. It was all very shocking then just like this is now. I was playing outside when Elvis died. Where were you when Michael Jackson died will be one of those questions that pop up in conversations for years to come. I saw it live on TV, ah the information age!

I have to say, I remember when the Jackson 5 were "big"... then he went solo.... I was never a big fan, but I've followed "the gloved ones'" history so to say.....I'm sorry for his unhappy later life.... I'm not sure if he ever really figured out "where he should be" in his search for self..... white lights and hope he's in a better place now.......
I just saw them playing the Thriller video on TV....what memories that brought back.

Loved Thriller!

Geez, the Homicide Dept of the LAPD are opening a case into MJ's death!

Monique just told me they are playing all of his videos on BET.

I'll never forget his impressive performance on Motown's 25th Anniversary show. I loved his Thriller album, and always considered him so talented, but it was a little hard for me to be a huge fan because of his strangeness.

MC when Elvis died I was married, 17 years old, and my sister was visiting me. When they announced he had passed away (it was 3 in the afternoon, I remember vividly because we were waiting for Speed Racer to come on) she put her hands over her ears and ran into the street screaming!!!!
We still tease her about that.
Does LAPD think he was murdered or something? Come on.

Apparently the fire department felt there were some "suspicious" things about his home and death. Similar to Anna Nicole Smith, they may be looking for doctors who were "overprescribing" many different meds for him.

So strange you should mention that because I was at work and it was the same time of day when I found out Anna Nicole had died. I thought about that earlier. I don't know if he was overprescribed or not, but it doesn't seem like much of a stretch. Unfortunately.

What a shocker! I agree he was a musical genius. Such a talent, but such a strange person, too. I never did like him, but I grew up listening to his music, too.
He was set to make a comeback - had a concert planned for 7/13 - would have been interesting to see what kind of comeback he could make ....
