  1. Did you know that the ingredients in Frontline Plus are the exact same for dogs and cats regardless of the size of animal? The only difference is a "slight" difference in the percentage. The ingredients are: Fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hr. and ticks within 48 hr.. (S)Methoprene, an insect growth regulator which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Then there is some Inert Ingredients, which are inactive ingredients.
This is the percentage of the ingredients for ex-large dogs: Fipronil-9.8%, (S)Methoprene-8.8% and Inert Ingredients-81.4%.
This is the percentage of the ingredients for cats: Fipronil-9.8%, (S)Methoprene-11.8%, and 78.4% Inert Ingredients.
The "amount" you give to each is quite different. But that is my whole purpose of telling you this. If you want to save some money, buy Frontline Plus for ex-large dogs, and pour one of the packets, or dosage, into a glass vial with a screw on lid for safe keeping. Get a plastic throw away pipette or a small syringe, remove the needle, to use for measuring the dosage for your cat. One packet or dose for a ex-large dog is equal to 7 or 8 doses for a cat. I am not sure about the dosage, I read on the internet it was 8, but it could be less.
I also researched the cheapest place to buy Frontline Plus and so far I found a place called "Mickey's Pet Supplies". I called her on the phone because I wanted to know where she was located. She is in Michigan. We talked for probably 15-20 minutes. Very pleasant lady, her name is Ann. She sells a 3 pack of Frontline Plus for ex-large dogs for $34.95 plus $4.99 for shipping. Her website is www.mickeyspetsupplies.com.
Anyway, I hope this may be of help to some of you. I ordered some Frontline from Ann today, Rebekah bought a glass vial from the Headshop and the vet gave us a 3cc syringe for measuring the dosage. I will let you all know how it all turns out.

  2. The "cat shelter" i work at does that too. Though the way they measure the dosage is a drop per pound of body wieght (so it probably comes out about the same).

though that is so much cheaper!

  3. Scarver that is very good info. My vet has had me doing that for a while with my cats, since my cats are all over 5 Lbs. he has me use 1/2 cc per cat. It definately saves money.

  7. Hi Scarver, I too have bought the xlg frontline for dogs and used it on my cats. My vet instructed me to use 1 to 1.5 CC per cat. Hope that helps and it really does work the same.
