I hope your niece is found soon, none the worse for her time missing.
If there is documentation as to her mental age, I would definitely get social services involved. It sounds like a different living environment would be a good idea.

DM...I can't imagine your niece went to that rodeo alone....kids always hang out in at least two's and three's. It's very important you find out who her closest friends are and see if anyone else went to that rodeo. Sending prayers for you and your niece Julie. Keep the faith.

If her mental age is only about 10, is there a doctor who can verify this to the police? They don't take teenagers who disappear seriously, with all those that run away on their own, but her mental age is another story. Your sister should be brought up on charges with CPS! Prayers that she is found safe and sound ASAP!

She has been found. Was hiding out at a friend's house. The brother's had questioned the girl about her being there and she lied. They tracked her down this morning after my oldest sister made it back to town. Guess the girl didn't want to lie to her Mother.
All I care about is that she is home. My oldest sister has now disowned me completely because of all of this. All I can say is that it is her loss not mine.

Thank God she has been found. That's all you need. Forget what your sister says, she shouldn't have left her in the first place and will try to offload her guilt onto you by being nasty.

She dissowned you?? You may want to remind your sister that there are SEVERAL members of the community that are obligated to inform child protective services if they believe a child is being abused or neglected. She should be investigated for not providing proper care for her daughter! She was neglectful and to continue a vacation when her child is missing--she is no kind of mother! I realize she is your sister DM and I am so sorry only you are able to see the unfluffiness.

DM, I am so glad your niece has been found and is okay!! I wholeheartedly agree with what Sox's Mom just said. I know she is your sister but still she should learn from this and not to take it out on you. I too would think a bit about either calling CPS or talking to your other siblings who agree with you on a plan to do some sort of intervention with your sister.

What a relief!! Your sister has some growing up to do. She's lucky nothing serious happened to her daughter. Who would she have gotten angry at then?
Your a good aunt to have stepped up the way you did. In no way...does your sister have a right to be angry or disown you. You seem to be the only adult in this picture.

Glad your niece has been found, You're right it's your sisters loss...It almost sounds like your niece is afraid to be at home alone with one of her brothers (the one with the bad attitude)...You were right to be concerned even if you were one of the only ones...You are a good Aunt!
