We brought home 3 month old kittens the other day. The were being fed Science Diet kitten. I've seen a bit of info about better cat foods from Furry Friends, but what about good foods, both wet and dry for kittens?

Good KITTEN Food
(9 posts)-
A lot of the foods that i mentioned for cats are all life stage foods, so kittens and adult cats can eat it. some good foods for kittens are:
dry - EVO, Instinct, Natural Balance, Wellness (especially the CORE), or Innova.
wet - all the same brands though it depends what you are willing to pay. EVO is cheaper than wellness canned. By Nature has very good wet food. If you want cheaper wet food, Petsmart's Authority brand is very cheap and still pretty good (only their wet, i don't especially like their dry).
What places can you go to get food?

Wellness and Innova have kitten formula's i think. the others don't, the food can be fed to kittens to senior cats because it is meant for all life stages.
Petsmart i have found that the only really good dry they have (which is still not as good as the other brands i listed earlier) is the Blue Buffalo Wilderness. It is pretty expensive.
Walmart doesn't really have much that is that good, some of the wet food is fine though but don't remember what the brand is called. Nature's Recipe maybe?
Another great food is Taste of the Wild and it is also all life stage. It is also fairly cheap, for being so high quality. Here it is $25 for a 17 pound bag so very affordable compared something like EVO.
Petco seems to have a few of the better brands, petsmart doesn't. For most of the more premuim brands i get, the only place i can find them is a small farm supply store that also carries the best brands of cat food (and dog food). The smaller local places seem to have the better brands of food, at least that is what it seems like here.

I checked and we have a Petco fairly close by. They seem to be carrying both the Natural Balance and the Wellness brands. I bought some of the small Natural Balance cans today. I will wait until I'm toward the end of the Science Diet bag and then bring in one of those two dry foods.
Any other suggestions? Thanks so much for the insight!

Below is a link with some coupons on Wellness cat food in on the side bar of the page: http://app.bronto.com/public/?q=preview_message&fn=Link&t=1&ssid=4778&id=g8c0b3dwvrrdod4muu3tqngobfp53&id2=ihfxely8d5urf4jdzfss00gyqe0g7
makes it a bit cheaper anyway.
you should mix in the differant dry food slowly because they are much differant compared to science diet, so maybe get one of the two brands soon so that you can switch them over during a time period of one or two weeks.
The Natural Balance cans are very good food too.

8 lbs for me would last about four days lol! Though i have LOTS of cats eating the cat food. So i really don't know how an eight pound bag would really last for just a few cats, which is why even though you said that you had a bag for me i assume that it won't last long at all.
for some cats it doesn't even matter how fast you switch over, but some have a hard time getting their body adjusted to another food. i have done it that for the first day or two i use the differant food just as cat treats, then slowly change over a ten day time period, with 1/10 of the new food the first day, then 1/5 (or 2/10) the second day and so on.
