  1. Hello everyone.
okay I'm doing advantage treatment for my 12 weeks kittens. I'm vacumming everyother day i want to add RAID flea control on my Carpet. I'm afraid the raid will go on my Kittens fur when they are grooming each other and rolling around the carpet. They are indoors Kittens. I have about 20 bites on my legs. I want to try Boric Acid and of course vacumm it ... Adams spray.. Raid Flea Control on my carpet.. Is this a good idea? I need these fleas to go away.I brush my babies with the flea comb every other day. 1 of the kittens nothing comes up ..the 2nd kitten which has way more fur found 2 fleas and a little flea poop. Anyone please advise if this is a good idea. I will put my babies in my room lock them in there for 1 day if necessary. Okay maybe not lock them you know what i mean.I can't eve sit on my couchs i get bitten everyday. i'm planning to take them to get groomed next month. I also have to put the advantaga again next month.

  3. Read the RAID can very carefully. Unless it says that the poison is going to completely dissipate within a certain time frame, you could end up with very sick kittens.

A better choice would be food grade Diatomaceous earth. You can buy it from many websites and in some health or pet stores. It will kill the fleas without harming your kittens.

Click on the pink tag words in the upper right hand corner to find some more threads about flea control.

Once you have control of the pests, make sure your kittens don't go outside where they will pick up more fleas.

    Good luck.

  4. I use Frontline and love it. I would step up the vacuuming. I would also comb daily as well. You need to vacuum the couch as well. To use any spray can be very dangerous to your pet. Make sure to read the label carefully--good luck prayer that the fleas are gone soon!

  5. I don't have much advice, but I do have a lot of sympathy! I have one baby who's allergic to fleas, so I try to keep up with the vacuuming, etc., for her sake especially.

  6. I had a bad infestation last year. I tried the diatomaceous earth and now I swear by it! It still takes awhile for all of the fleas to die, since there are new eggs hatching for weeks that then have to be killed off by the DE. I got it online from Earthworks. It was inexpensive and I have recommended it to others as well.

  7. Oh, and vacuum every single day, and comb the babies with a flea comb daily. I would dip off the fleas in a cup of soapy water. After a few weeks, all were dead and no new eggs were hatching. Good luck!

  8. Thank you so much. the vacuuming will start everyday. I came back from my vet and i asked her too. She said Boric Acid. it's Non Toxic to cats or dogs. If that doesn't work i will do the diatomaceous earth. I do use the water and soap. Thank you very much.. thanks again

  11. Another suggestion, is to fog the house. If you have a very terrible infestation, which it sounds like you do, then you can always get a fog spray which will kill almost all fleas immediately, and the ones it doesn't kill imediately, it will kill pretty much over night. I just recently had to do this for my apartment because it was getting so bad, and some of the fleas actually gave two of my three kittens flat worms. You can buy the stuff at wal-mart of a pet store, it's pretty inexpensive, only about 6 dollars for two cans. You and your kitty would need to leave for two hours, but when you come back, those fleas will be packin their bags for sure. And your kitties won't get sick after the treatment, as long as you follow the directions of the box and air out the house for about thirty minutes. Anyways, hope I helped. =)

  12. You will have to fog again in 2 weeks to get the eggs that have hatched. It's such a hassle, I would go with the diatomaceous earth, it's safer anyway.

  13. Also, I have heard Advantage doesn't always work. Frontline Plus is better and Revolution is best.

  14. Much thanks for all of the up-to-date suggestions! I haven't had to deal with this in a while so will be off to the Pet supply store!

  15. although it seems you are not from the uk, i had my kitten given to me with fleas quite bad and we went to the market and got some johnsons 4fleas tablets and his fleas were gone over nite whether or not u can get them online? or maybe you can get it but we had a very good outcome with them and claude is all clear now

  16. Thanks Natajane...I found this product on e-bay...Is it a natural remedy or pesticide? Did Claude have any side-effects. I found some "natural" 3pk liquid appl.at a local petsupply store here in the US/must see if it works on Crockey first.

  17. the only thing is that claude was obviously scratching as the tablets get to his blood stream and make the fleas bite then they die but he is absolutely clear of fleas now and he is fine in himself no side effects at all i dont think its a natural remedy as i bought it from a pet store and he reccomended it straight away

  18. Thank again Natajane...good to know! Thanks Catwoman/Cheeta for the DE recommmendation...I picked some up at the local Natural Fd. Outpost too! Soxmom I will do the Frontline in case the natural 3pk doesn't work! Crockey &
    Dot will be happy too!

  24. BUMP FOR NEWBIES...PLUS IT IS TIME FOR ME TO TREAT DOT & CROCKEY WITH FRONTLINE WHICH IS WORKING/YAY...BUT I CANNOT TAKE THEM OUTSIDE ON THEIR LEASH ANYMORE...!

Posted 2 years ago by jeankit #

  25. Wow, you guys have a lot to say about this! Personally, i love revolution, because it doesnt just treat for fleas, it treats for every other kind of parasite as well(like the flatworms mentioned by supernova). Try spraying the raid inside your vacuum cleaner - if you think about it any fleas you suck up will just climb back out again as soon as the motor stops running.

Posted 2 years ago by Skyron #

  26. I wouldn't use the Raid at all! It would be good to empty the vacuum bag out every day or close to it as the fleas can live in there and get back out into your house. I heard steam cleaning helps a lot with killing the fleas too. Good luck! It is such an awful problem.. I feel sad for anyone with it. Especially the poor kitties. I heard that this is a bad year for fleas. We can even pick them up outisde on our clothes and bring them in. ICK!!!!

  27. Our vet recommends putting a piece of a flea collar inside the vacuum cleaner bag to kill the fleas that end up in it. :)

  28. I too use the diatomaceous earth and have no problems with fleas at all! It works great and is quite reasonable. =)
