  1. I am home and doing well. The "mass" was highly vascularized and called for 8 units during the surgery. The path reports were what I expected...normal, normal,normal....non-cancerous but bloody big.

I did not get excited about it. I slept through the whole process.

I plan to spend the rest of today sleeping the adventure of hospital discharge, ride home with stop for scripts off.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers.

My Dr has offically labled me "A tough old bird". While I am unable to donate because of the list of auto-immunes in my profile, if you are willing and able I would appreciate blood donations be made to offset my unexpected use.

  2. Ail, glad you are home and under "arrest"! Take it slow and easy, you will feel better in no time! Sorry you had to get so much blood, my goodness. Unfortunately I cannot donate but I will encourage others to do so. Its always a good idea! (((AIL)))

  7. Ail, I'm glad you are home safe and apparently none the worse for wear. I am a regular blood donor in UK and will continue to donate until they say I can't any more. So far I've given 48 or 49 pints. I get a gold badge once I get to 50!

  8. I'm glad your surgery went so well...considering the size. The thought of any surgery makes me shudder. As for donating blood...I've wanted to do that all my life, but, never weighed enuf to be able to. Must be at least 110 lbs. That's been so frustrating for me.

Enjoy your day long snooze & lay-around. It will help you to heal faster. Sending some White Light tho to speed things up even more.

  9. Oh, honey, I'm so glad you're doing OK now! Wish I could donate, but there are problems with my veins, so I will pray extra hard.

  10. I am so glad that everything was normal normal normal you old crusty bird!

  11. Normal normal normal...... always what we want to hear! Glad that it is over and you are on the mend.

I can't give blood because I'm chronically anemic. :-( But I'm sending lots of wishes for a continued recovery!

  12. I'm so glad to hear this, you tough old bird! I've been having a procedure every six months for the past couple of years; one of those "woman things". Anesthesia is local, so the doc asks the assistant how I'm doing and it's usually "she's just making faces". Doc wishes all his patients would be as mellow...

  13. ailuromaniac, I am glad to hear it is non-cancerous and that you are on the road to recovery. Sending you some healing thoughts and prayers. Eight pints of blood, wow! Should we call you Countess Dracula? Tough old bird indeed.

I use to donate platelets (apheresis - sp?) but because they kept calling me every 2 months, my veins started to get some scars so I stopped. They liked me so much as I have a high platelet count. Once when I had a cut on my finger, I could actually watch it seal itself up (or maybe I was just seeing things).

  14. Glad you are normal, normal normal! Prayers answered!

  15. Take it easy. I'm very glad the mass was normal. ((hugs))

  16. I thank everyone for the offers of prayer where not possible to donate.

I really did not intend it to be taken that I was asking on my behalf, but on the behalf of all with a sudden unplanned need for blood. 8 units when it was expected to need 0 is a sudden change in plan. I know blood banks everywhere struggle to keep up. My usage has been covered. My daughters knew of it before anyone told me about it. And I was covered almost before I got to ICU.

I would be just as honored if you dedicated the donations and/or prayers to Crazy Cat People everywhere

Yes Nawlins CM daughters are wonderful but us Grandmas still enjoy getting even.

  19. A, So sorry I can't donate (hepititus when I was a kid) but I did stop by the Red Cross this afternoon with a $$ donation. Of course lots of prayers and white light and purrs and headbonks from the boys. I'm pretty sure that we get tougher the older we get! I will hold good thoughts for your swift recovery. Take it easy and relax.

  20. OMG, just catching up here...8 units needed, Yikes! So glad all went well. May your recovery continue to go smoothly.

  21. TL,
I knew you would get excited over the count of "disposable plastic bodies (Love at First Bite)" drained during my surgery. Considering the vascularity of the evil twin, it was kind of like carrying a spare spleen in my belly. Dr and I agreed it was good that we did get it out because a blow could have ruptured it and then I would have had a bleed under uncontrolled conditions. I also lucked out in that there was a vascular surgeon on hand who stepped in delaying a procedure he was in scrub to preform when they found themselves in a special effects TV Dr Series with me as the guest performer. Without the blood volume pumping it up it shrank nearly 3 cm.

  22. It sounds like it went well--although a bit unnerving! I am glad you are home relaxing! Know that my prayers are continuing--and I am very thankful you are a tough ole bird!! Those are the best by the way!

  23. I wouldn't know. I slept through it. My first inkling was in recovery when they were repeating the time as I woke up and telling me why it was so late. With all the good drugs, all I could muster was a calm "that's cool, sorry I missed it." (Pre-op I had discussed the possibility of having a spinal and watching. Since it was a midline with possibility of traveling "North of the Mason-Dixon"(above the navel) and the type of drapery there would be nothing for me to watch.)
I will probably be a hospital gossip subject for at least a month.

  24. When I am eligible again to give (gave 6 weeks ago) I will be sure to do so. They never turn me down...

Glad to see things turned out with "normal, normal, normal"

Posted 2 years ago by Alicia #

  25. Glad you're doing well!

I would love to donate blood. I used to do that every few months but they changed the rules and regulations and now won't let me donate because I'm......DANISH?????!!!!!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  26. What do they think that makes a difference???? Idiots they can be, I have a dear friend who was stationed in the UK almost 30 years ago and they won't let her donate because she may have MAd Cow disease. I can't donate because I had hepititis when I was 14 yrs old, and I am 55 yrs old now, sigh.

  27. {{{gentle hugs}}} for your continued recovery and being back on you feet in no time, ailuromaniac.

  28. AzDeb...I'm the same age as you & have Never weighed enuf to donate. *stomping feet in frustration.

My neighbor donates regularly tho. She's close to her "gold" badge. :)

Posted 2 years ago by feral #

  29. I know - it's ridiculous, AZ! I donated blood for years before they changed the rules :(

Susie, I'm pretty sure I've donated at less than 110lbs. Maybe it varies from bloodbank to bloodbank?
