  1. So, my 9 month old kittens have claws like daggers, and I want to trim them. I'm a bit scared, though, because I don't know the best way to go about doing so. What should I use? How low should I trim them? Any and all advice would be much appreciated!

  2. Some people use regular human clippers. I find that the clippers made for cats is easier because I can see the nail better.

A few people can trim kitty's nails alone, most of us need one person to hold the cat and one person to trim the nail.

If you haven't been handling their little feet you need to get them use to that first. Hold each toe between your thumb and forefinger and squeeze gently. That makes the nail come out. Look at it from the side and you'll be able to see the blood vein that goes part way up the nail. Never cut the vein. Not only will it hurt the cat, but it usually won't stop bleeding on it's own.

After your babies are use to you handling their feet, you should be able to trim their nails. My husband holds each cat to his chest with their feet pointing forward and I trim a foot at a time. We can do all four kitties in 15 minutes (not counting the time we spend trying to find them under the bed).

Some cats just never get use to it and their humans have resorted to trimming a few nails when the cat is sleeping until all 18 have been trimmed.

Make sure kitty gets lavish praise and lots of treats when the trimming is finished.
