Daughter is home!

(29 posts)
  1. She met a fellow! He is a law student at Manchester. She thinks he is great. She fell head over heals for the nicest man she has ever met in Ireland name George. She was "taught" how to golf by the most wonderful red head in Scotland! Well---she was on an ambassadorship! By the way do you think I can get a refund on the golf lessons I have paid for since she was 10 because she doesn't know how to golf? And apparently according to the Gaelic Hurling people she is brilliant! She can't golf after years of lessons....but she can hurl! She had a great time and hasn't stopped talking for over 24 hours!

By the way she bought bagpipes in Scotland--anyone know how to play the bagpipes?

  2. The best thing to do with bagpipes is cut a large hole in the bag and blame the mice.

  3. She loves the bagpipes--I said that is because she listens to someone who knows how to play them. I guess the guy that gave the demonstration has a son...

The funny part is I have never known he to be boy crazy. Although I heard from the group that she wasn't boy crazy, although she enjoyed the view....what exactly does that mean?

  4. I'm glad your daughter is back safe in the next, SM. What an amazing experience she had. I hope she is able to stay in touch with all of her new friends. Next time she travels to Europe she will have many places to stay. :)

  5. I guess we are doing this again next year--she is off to Australia and New Zealand! I am so jealous--I want to go to New Zealand!

  6. I wonder if she will be able to meet MS, KK and JCat while on that trip. Wouldn't that be wonderful?! Can you sign up as a parent chaperone??? ;)

  7. Parents are not allowed to travel with their children on People to People. Eisenhower felt that children were more open and receptive without a parent. I have to agree that mine came out of another shell!

  10. I'm so glad that she is back home ...sounds like a grand time. I had a good friend in PA and her husband played in a group of bagpipe players, they made quite a bit of money playing at weddings; they were all a bit quirky though Lol
(KW, love your new avatar, wonder if I can get one of my kitties to wear a stethoscope?!!)

  16. The bagpipe is not an easy instrument to master. She'll have to practice a lot. (Which isn't the auditory pain a non-pipes lover might think; most people master the canter first and it just sounds much like any other reed instrument.)

Macedonian, Swedish and Serbian pipes are probably easier since they usually have fewer drones. The Scottish pipes generally have more drones which makes learning them harder.

If she's serious about learning to play, she should contact a local Scots club and get some referrals to tutors. A good piper can make a fair amount of money at weddings, funerals, etc. while still holding a full time job.

... sounds like daughter had a FABULOUS trip!..... those are the memories one never forgets!.... I still remember my highschool trips to the mountains in Colorado! .... they were wonderful..... particularly those that I "met a boy".... LOL

  29. ROFLAO at Polly's Mum!

I'm so happy she's home safe and sound and so thrilled and glad she had a good time, Sox's Mom! I knew she would *pats herself on back* and I'm not surprised she can't stop talking. Sounds like she conquered a few hearts there too...

And YAY that she's coming downunder. If she gets to Wellington, KK and I can meet her for lunch! However, the South Island is the really scenic part so she may just be dropping in there for a day or two if her schedule's as hectic as this time round!
