My first fuzzboy, Binky (close to 15 yrs.) just had some kind of a mild seizure alittle bit ago. He started making that awful sound that he makes when he's going to get sick. I ran to him to get him on the linoleum floor.I expected one heck of a furrball since the ritual was more intense than other times. I noticed his tongue hanging out much longer than usual & it was a dark purple like you would see when someone isn't getting enuf oxygen. I tried to stay calm for him (he freaks over getting sick-just doesn't understand it I guess). When he finally upped what was making him sick,only half a dozen kernels of kibble came out. No furrball.
Then he suddenly started to drift very quickly sideways & I had to catch him to keep him from falling over. After several minutes,he seemed to be okay. No dizziness or disorientation or anything. I know it's getting close to his time,but,this was definately unusual for him. So now I'll have to keep an even closer eye on the old boy. It's bad enuf he's going blind.but, I don't want him scared from episodes like this. I'm hoping it's the only one he ever has again. My poor monkey-butt. He's showing his age.

Thanks you guys. Binky seems to be okay tonight. I get worried when the weather gets hot (& it gets too darn hot in California). Binky seems to get easily affected by the heat. He gets so warm that he'll lay right in front of the swamp cooler in the window. And it gets extremely cold for any person to sit in front of it for very long. Amd he'll lay so close to the box fans when they're going that he sometimes knocks them over. I've never had a cat that needed cooling off that bad. And yet he's not happy at all when I wet his fur down to lower his temps.
I'll be glad when the weather gets down to a tolerable level again. -
Feral, Kitty does that with the humidfier because it puts out cool air too...lies right next to it and if its not turned on, he will paw at the controls until I 'Notice' that he wants it turned on.

Poor Binkie!!! One cause of a seizure is a spike in his/her temperature so it may indeed be the heat that's affecting him. I keep ice packs (the hard plastic ones they can't rip or bite open) in the freezer and take them out and wrap them in a towel and place them next to my boys when they get too hot. I wipe them down with cool wet wash cloths as well.

GD...you'll be pleasantly surprised toknow Binky's alltime favorite bed is the one you sent a couple yrs. back. He gets major pi**ed if anyone gets remotely close to it. It's also the only time I ever see him agressive...Get-Out-Of-My-Bed!...hahaha

I was going to suggest the same thing that GA said. Maybe he was choking and trying to hack up something (corn?) blocking his airway. Is he missing teeth or does he bolt his food? Thinking that he was choking isn't good, but it's better than having a seizure.

I was sorta thinking that too. He very rarely spews up furballs when he does that heave-ho thing. Poor guy gets so freaked too. All he upped was half a dozen pieces of kibble. And he's quite the picky & slow eater in his old age. The fact that I've never seen his tongue become so purple before does make me think that he was fainting. He has most his teeth,so I doubt he swallowed any. lol.
Right now he's fast asleep in his beddy next to the swamp cooler. He likes to stick his face in it so it blows on it. lol -
