My Kitten and I are new

(4 posts)
  1. Hi everyone -

I posted in another forum already but I thought I would introduce myself here. My name is Erica, and my kitten is five months old. His name is Quentin. He saved my life, I had a lot of things going on and somehow he made it all OK :)

But today he was diagnosed with chronic stomatitus (sp, it's late and I'm on Advil PM). I posted about it and got some very comforting and helpful responses so thanks to you all, and to my Mom and a few of my friends, I don't feel as awful as I did before. One of the reasons it hit me so hard was that last year, both of my fourteen year old cats (they were still kitten babies to me!) died of CRF, six months apart.

Quentin is sweet and loving and energetic. Normally, right now he's sleeping because of the upsetting vet visit. He got extremely upset at the blood test! He hasn't been eating as much, and I thought he was teething, because up until last week he still had his baby canines. The vet said it wasn't teething, it was the other thing.

I'll do everything I can to help him. I just don't want him to be in pain. Anyway, enough about me, we're new here and happy and grateful to be here.

  2. Welcome Erica and Quentin to TDK. Don't know anything about chronic stomatitus, there should be someone familiar with it on sometime this weekend. But with it being a holiday weekend in the U.S. the traffic may be a bit slow, so don't be surprised if there are not many replies until early in the week. Again, glad that you have come on in and Quentin (if that's his picture in the avatar) is very handsome.

  3. Welcome to TDK, Erica. I wish I knew something about chronic stomatitis but I'm afraid I don't have any experience with it. As Deb says, Quentin looks like a very handsome young man and a total sweetheart. We hope you stick around, we love to hear about people's kitties (and see pix)!

  4. I'll definitely stick around, thank you both for the welcome! Quentin has been having trouble eating his hard food, and one vet that I took him to on June 11 said it was teething, but yesterday a different vet said stomatitis. We are going to a specialist next week, and they are not too far from here and have other vets there so maybe I can shift his care there. It would be nice to go to one place for everything but whatever he needs I'll do.

Anyway, he is growing (he gained a pound in three weeks) and he IS eating even if it's not as much as he could or should be, but I'm sticking with the cans and moistening the dry for now. He's full of energy and generally happy, except when I'm not! So I'm trying not to be upset, in case he is in a lot of pain, I don't want him to have to worry about me!!
