July 4th Cafe

(49 posts)
  1. Good morning, all!!! Hope everyone had a good night!

I'm catering in from Panera this morning to kick off the festivities. We've got coffees, teas, juices, hot chocolates to drink. The buffet is full of bagels, croissants, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and much more.
Come on in and hang out for a bit!

  2. Happy 4th! Panera, my favorite! I will have a chocolate chip bagel, toasted with Raspberry Cream Cheese and a strawberry smoothie please! Did you make plans for today GD?

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  3. Hi MC - sorry I took off on you!
No plans for today. I don't feel like going to the kooky tennis lady's house. What I really want to do (other than hang with GG which isn't happening) is go to the mall and get a few things to wear next week since I have absolutely nothing. I don't fit into my my old clothes and the only new clothes I've bought over the last several months are black pants for the gym.
I really just want to take it easy this weekend.

    What are you doing?

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  4. Me and the girls are hanging out. Doing laundry and some housework. NOthing much going on here. I need to go to the store and buy some cat food. I just gave the girls the last of their food for breakfast.

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  5. Uh-oh! Can't run out of cat food!

I'm tired after a 60 hr. work week and not much sleep. The mall is open til six so I may go home and take a nap after I'm done at the gym at one.
By the way - there's not a soul in the gym and I've been here for an hour and 15 minutes! I wish the Williams sisters weren't the ones in the Wimbledon final today, then I could watch that.

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  6. OOH! I understand, the Williams sisters are NOT my favorite. A nap sounds good!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  7. Maybe I could nap right here!

I hope there won't be many people at the mall. I don't particularly like shopping - especially if it's crowded. I'm going to go to Bath & Body Works, too for their buy 3 get 3 free special and maybe I'll have some lunch there, too :)

  8. Morning GD and MC!..... strange night, I stayed up until 3am, then was woken at 5:30 by my alarm company (some wierd signal they were receiving - probably from lightening).... then found my eye pillow, and actually went back to sleep until now!.......

..... today is a ME day, I'm heading out for the shower, then to stroll the mall for a while, get my toenails done, grab some junk food, and then go to my Mom's house to have a BBQ later in the afternoon....... I love days when I get to do JUST EXACTLY what I want!

  9. Oooooh, sounds like a good kind of day, AV!
I actually went to be around 10:30 and Bobby didn't wake me until 5:20. I fed him and gave him a scritch and hoped he wouldgo back to sleep - he didn't. I put a pillow over my head to drown him out and that worked. SLept til the alarm woke me at 6:45 but I'm still tired.

  10. I have barbecue on the TDK Roller Rink grills; chicken, ribs, brisket, plus I'm doing all the fun cookout fixings. Come stop over when you can.

Posted 2 years ago by Vicki #

  11. My girls will love that! Enjoy your ME day AV

  12. Hi everyone - Happy 4th! Finally got a computer and it runs for more than 10 minutes without locking up! Have to cut up brownies that I made for family bbq later today. Of course, I made a double batch so I can bring some to the TDK cafe! I also have to make "pink stuff" for a friend's bbq that we're going to before we go to Mom's. It's basically cherry jello and whipped cream. Didn't bring it last year and got yelled at! It's yummy and refreshing for a hot day and there's plenty, help youreself! I brought some fresh Jersey blueberries that you can toss in too.
Leela is already at the rink! Finally, she gets to show off the silver sequin onsie with the sequin flag on it.
    Have a wonderful day littermates!

  13. Hi Joan! (and anyone else who's around).

Ooh, brownies, yum! I'll add homemade cinnamon buns to the treats table so I don't feel like such a pig :)

Joan, has it stopped raining where you are? It poured on Thursday as Mike & I were coming back from VT, but yesterday was gorgeous and today looks good too. Yay!

  14. Good morning, Joan!

I worked 2 1/2 hours before someone came in. I have 4 right now. Stupid BB has decided to pick today to shoot a commercial. Apparently they're doing it at 1:00. I'm going to run out of here as fast as I can so I don't end up getting recruited to help out. As it is, his son is here cleaning and straightening up for the shoot. I just wanted some peace and quit and was hoping to leave early. Sigh!

  15. Hi GD, didn't know if you were still around. I agree, when your shift is over, RUN! :)

    How's the new job going?

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  16. Hmmmmm, not loving it, but it got better when I could start looking around and doing research and calling companies I came up with myself - makes it more exciting to find something really interesting. The research also breaks up the day so I'm not just making phone calls for 6 hours straight.
I got paid promptly on Friday, so that helps, too!

I need to make up my mind what I'm going to stick with because I worked 60 hours this week and am totally exhausted. I'll try to hang in there and do both for another 2 weeks to make a bit more money, see how I like the new job and see if the gym does any better with this new guy trying to bring in customers.
Even if I like the gym job better right now, there is much more of a future for me in the new job, and also better pay....

  17. Hi Kilroy! Today is the first day in AGES that rain isn't in the forecast, yay! There sure were some nasty storms this week. It's a beautiful day, on so many levels, but the sunshine makes it even more wonderful!
Great to see you, GD, MC, Vicki and AV - special now since I can access from home!
    Off to make "pink stuff"...

  18. i had a perfect blood sugar this morning (104) !!! I will be painting and doing laundry. In addition I canibalized a bookcase that fell apart last night, and I will be getting bricks to make it into a viable bookcase again, maybe not today. my cold is a little worse today and i wonder why. later maybe i'll go do some bbq, or make some in my crockpot.

Posted 2 years ago by CSBM #

  19. Yay for your blood sugar, Cheri! That's awesome!

I just got a new voice mail and went to check. Turned out there were some from a couple of days ago, that hadn't shown up as new messages. One was from my Dad on Thursday. He left me a message that he's going for a stay in the hospital because of something to do with his legs. My brother hasnt let me know what's going on and it's sometimes hard to get information out of my dad. Anyway, he sounded pretty tearful. If you all could spare some prayers and white light for him, I'd really appreciate it.

  20. Happy 4th Of July everyone. Panera is one of my favorite places. I will have an orange scone and a house latte. The latte with the honey and cinnamon on it. What good numbers for your blood sugar Cheri, great news. ( I do "gluco checks" at work.) I am sending a prayer for your Dad's health GD. We have sunshine here today too, so it looks like a nice holiday weekend is in store. AND...I have the weekend off!!!!

Posted 2 years ago by krazikat #

  21. Thanks, KK! I went back and listened to the message again. He went to the hospital yesterday. He's 82 so any kind of procedure is hard on him. He had his hip operated on about 5 years ago and ended up having a stroke :(

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  22. Oh dear! White light and good wishes for your dad, GD. {{GD}}

  23. Thanks, Kilroy!
I'm snaeking out of the gym now. Check back in later.

  24. *peeks into the cafe and finds it deserted!*

Late, late start for me today! We slept late, which is a rare thing for us. Then had tea and read the paper and then decided to go for a bike ride. We ended up riding 24 miles, which in itself isn't bad, but about half of the time was into a pretty stiff wind. That is never much fun! But we rode through lots of neighborhoods, looked at landscaping, rode by our old house, and rode by some horses who were out with a pretty new baby.

When we got home we watched a bit of the opening day of the Tour de France. Guess I'm a widow for three weeks to that race!

GD, I'll definitely keep your dad in my prayers. I know that it's hard to be so far away and not really know what's going on.

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  25. Aw, GD, so sorry to hear your dad is in the hospital. Many hugs and prayers your and your dad's way. It must be hard when you don't know what is going on and can't just stop by the hospital to visit him! ((GD, "Dad" GD))

  26. Thanks, WWM!
Sounds like you're havig a good day!
I worked til one and then met my friend at Panera for tea and hung out with her for a couple of hours. We both missed our Panera meets this week! Then I went to the grocery store and now I'm working on making turkey meatballs in the redi set go oven. I got some steak and chicken as well that I'm going to cook. I don't have time to cook during the week so I figure I'll make a few things this weekend.

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  27. Thanks, MC! He said it was something with his legs. He's diabetic so I wonder if it's some kind of complication from that. He mentioned he was bringing his cell phone with him. Only thing is, I don't have his number!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  28. Oh dear! Can you call your brother! I am considering getting one of those redi set ovens!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  29. I think my brother is upset with me, so I'm not sure that would go well. I'll try to call my dad at home Sunday or Monday and if I get no answer, I'll send my brother an email.

I love my little oven. I'm making mini turkey meatballs. Ground turkey, egg and stuffing mix. Yummy! MI had a taste and liked it too :)

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  30. Oh I love the turkey meatball idea! YUM! I love anything made with turkey. I went to the website and think when I get paid I am gonna put in my order!
