Hi WWM!

Yes MCW, do email Rubia and I'll try Facebooking Pika. What about Metsa? And who are the other UK TDKers? I've forgotten, yet another senior moment.
SM I'm glad your daughter had such a wonderful time.
SMM I really enjoyed reading your post. If you've got something worth saying (and you had) please don't cut it short.

Glad to hear your neck is better! Her big draw to Scotland seems to be a golf instructor named Greg! I hear he is the cutest red head ever! She has a thing for Rupert Grint too--she was horrified he had swine flu! She also adores Prince Harry--she thinks he is hands down more brilliant than Prince William! I guess she is also smitten by an accent--did you know that males that live in the UK have an accent?!
I'll be in Berlin 4th - 8th August and then in France 12th - 17th (probably).

Hi, MCW!!!! Have you purchased your steamer trunk to pack all of your medications in for your trip here? :-)
Daughter is going out with Prince Harry???? Good choice! He's the hunky one!

OK, I'll email Rubia and Metsa, you do Pika, then when we've got ourselves a date we'll start a thread and see who else is interested (there are quite a few others now, erm, Jade in London and, erm *scratches head* Lucy in Manchester to name the only two I can think of right now!)

Don't go, PM!!!! Stinkin' French......
Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #
She really doesn't want Rupert Grint. I used to teach him and I now teach his sisters, so I still see him from time to time. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer .......

Some accents are less attractive than others SM!!!
WWM - I've got a new credit card to pay the excess baggage...!
Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #
I'm sorry WWM, I know you have your problems with the French, but some English friends of mine have a house there, and my birthday present each year from them is to stay with them and be wined and dined for a week or so.

Oh, baggage - now that is one more pain! Are you flying British Airways? Are they charging for luggage? I think that it's just obscene that the airlines are charging to check luggage!
Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #
Well, that does sound nice, PM. IF the stinkin' French will actually let you into the country!
Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #
Oh yes, accents!! I particularly dislike central Leeds, and of course Estuary/Essex is pretty awful too.
Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #
They don't ususally even look at my passport - we're EU.
Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #
It wasn't our passports that kept us out, PM. It was that the stinkin' French fishermen blockaded the port at Le Havre and wouldn't let any ships in!!!!

Now don't get me onto the subject of luggage and airlines. I will NEVER, NOT EVER, NO, fly with Ryanair again after the problems we had with luggage two years ago. They reduced the baggage allowance without telling anyone and wanted to charge me £57 (ie about $100) excess. I ended up buying a second small cabin-legal suitcase and transfering a load of stuff into that. The case cost £28, but at least Ryanair didn't get their thieving mitts on any more of my money. They market themselves as a low-cost airline and then hit you with so many "extras" that you end up spending more than with a normal carrier. If I go "low-cost" I prefer sleasy-jet!

Yes, that happens a lot, that's why I always use the tunnel now.

PM daughter's heart is broken! She likes a red head filled with brains--poor girl just took down her poster.
Daughter loved the Irish accents--her host family had a son her age--she loved his voice. She spent a few evenings outside with the village playing soccer. She loved listening to everyone talking. Then she went to play Gaelic footbal--the coaches said she was amazing. She really liked it--especially listening to directions! So I guess I need an Irish accent to get her to turn into Hazel and finish her chores!
Sorry! Rupert was in set 6 of 6 for French and much the same for German. After all the individual help and tuition they got whilst filming he went up to set 5! He's a nice enough lad, but ...............

I won't fly Ryanair on principle, regardless of their trying to charge you to breathe their oxygen in-flight, I just think their CEO is a major tosspot.
I'm flying Continental for the main there and back WWM, their baggage policy seems very reasonable. I haven't double checked the internal flights yet, scared to!!

I think you'll need more than just an Irish accent SM - you might need a sex-change op as well! Is that perhaps a bit too drastic in order to get the chores done?
Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #
A southern irish accent is lovely, Northern Ireland, Belfast in particular is just a bit too Ian Paisley for my liking! Here in the UK I can't stand anything too Brummie (Birmingham) or Scouse (Liverpool)!
Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #
I might start a "Cause" on Facebook - "Boycott Ryanair - the CEO's a tosspot" What do you think?
Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #
Daughter thought the Giants Causeway was wonderful, but she really liked Southern Ireland better. Belfast was interesting--but they got into neighborhoods that seemed to be like gang warfare here. She isn't sure the peace walls work.
Well I think my hubby might protest the sex change....
Y'know that might ALMOST get me on Facebook...! ;o)

I quite like N. Irish accents too, although I must admit, I sometimes find the Ballymena Boyfriend in full flow a little hard to understand. I occasionally have to ask him to slow down.

*confesses quietly* I've never actually been to Ireland despite the fact that my Dad was Irish! He hated the place and swore never to return, so we certainly didn't go there as children, and since then, because of my job, I tend to spend most of my time in French or German speaking countries.

Saw a great comedian on the box a couple of weeks back, having fun with the Welsh accent - said it was no good for high intellect stuff or contemplating the meaning of life, but great for when you wanted to verbalise the inane : "ooh look! Bumblebee!" (just say it aloud with a welsh accent, hysterical!)
