Did anyone else get an e-mail from "Angeline Bruno", saying that she was sorry she didn't tell us about her recent trip to Nigeria, that all her ID, credit cards, money, etc. had been stolen, and she needed $2750 to help her return to the country? I know this has to be a scam, but I wanted all to be aware of it!!

I'm sure her e-mail address has been compromised. She certainly would never make a 'joke" as serious as this! It's probably because she sends so many e-mails to so many people--scammers love when a person has so many contacts.
I was afraid to reply because then they'd have MY address.Posted 2 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

Seems like this happened to someone else here too. I don't remember who. There is no contact information so I am worried that it has something attached to get into contacts. Funny part is right after I saw the email and opened it my computer spontaniously shut down. I ran a security check, and it didn't show any problems.

This is not straight forward. If she used the scam email as a forward to with her added appology you need to have your system scanned. If she sent a fresh email your box should be safe, however your email is likely to already have been gleaned from Angie's list just as hers could have been gleaned from a source we do not know.
People always ALWAYS work behind a firewall with email sniffers and be suspicious of every e-letter. Does it have an attachment? Did you expect it? Is it out of character.....
Unfortunately, our communications must be considered guilty until proven innocent. If you think your email is compromised setup an alternate account and send your apologies and warnings from the new account. Don't use your mailing lists (one email to many people) Treat them as Thank You's for wedding gifts. One at a time and personal. Also use your chat forums to issue announcements that you are compromised.

This does show us all that email addresses can be compromised and what looks like mail from someone that you know may very well not be.

Well, it just proves that we all need to be courteous and polite to our TDK friends. If someone is going on a trip, always tell your friends first.
If someone goes off on a trip without telling us, and they really do lose their wallet, well, they will just have to take a job grooming foreign kitties until they make enough money to get home.
Now, if you get an email from me asking for money, it will be because I have a hankering to go 'down under' and fly on Air New Zealand. I just love their uniforms.;)

Y'all, I updated and ran my virus scanner after getting that email and it found four viruses. I had run it yesterday and nothing. So you might want to run a check on your computers because chances are good that you might have picked up a bug or two.

I ran a scan after and all I had was a tracking cookie and those are picked up all the time and easily deleted, so I didn't get anything off the email. I run at least a quick scan daily.
More importantly is the need for Ange to scan because they got into her account. You've done a scan and if you find anything can delete from there. Don't forget to scan for spyware too. This can happen to anyone.

first off stop picking on Angie. She has no viruses and most likely they used a weakness in the yahoo set up by telling yahoo that they had forgottent her password and got the security question right. I think this is more a weakness on the email providers side than anything. Stop harping on her and stop the fear mongering.

Now wait a minute all that was asked was to run a scan. Read the thread and no one has ever blamed her for anything. As I said on more than one occassion I run a scan every day. I found NOTHING but a tracking cookie and that isn't picked up off an email. No one has laid blame on Ange nor is there fear mongering a simple rememder to run a scan and that should be done regadless--no one has blamed her for a thing! Repeatedly everyone has been supportive of Ange.
