  1. Hi, I am so glad I found a site for kitties. I fostered for our local humane society a couple of years back and had to stop because I became pregnant. Then I started a guinea pig rescue in May of this year. While checking craigslist for guinea pig supplies and "rehoming" I came upon a woman who had found two young kittens under a house. She didn't have the time to hand-rear them and I missed the joys of raising kittens from fragile little newborns into adoptable sweethearts. I called her up and here I am 3 days later with a male orange tabby I call Tiger (not too origional, but neither is his sister's name!) and a female calico I call Callie. They were vet checked the day after I got them and are 2 weeks old. Glad to have a community to share information and ideas with, since I am going back to being a foster for the humane society (re-submitted my application!).

  2. Hi, Snowflower, welcome to TDK, we have a lot of fun here and you have certainly come to the right place, we love to talk about cats and kittens and are always happy to welcome an experienced kitty foster mum on, as we get many queries that have been known to stump us at times! Bless you for the work that you do, I look forward to chatting with you in the morning cafe and on the night shift! I have two cats, Libby (my avatar) and Jasper, both rescues and I live in New Zealand!

  3. And I have two cats too, miso and sumi, also both rescues (sumi kitten on my avatar) and I live in Ireland. I'm impressed with the work you do - it can't be easy taking care of such young kittens. I've just been nursing my 10 week old sumi through a horrible illness, and it's a lotta work! Welcome to TDK Snowflower!

  4. Welcome to TDK Snowflower. You've found the right place to chat about kittens and things cat related and things not cat related in fact. Raising two wee kitties will keep you busy. I am owned by one cat called Moonshadow(my avatar) and she was an SPCA rescue.

  19. Welcome Snowflower. I had no idea there were guinea pig rescues in existance. They're furries too tho. It seems once you foster the wee ones,it's hard not to go back to doing it.
The 2 boys in my avatar(Thumper & Spider) were rescues. They now live w/their forever family & I'll always miss them & their mom. Their new names are Bullwinkle(an extreme cuddlebug) & Rocky(probably because he had the ability to fly).
I hope you enjoy this wonderful site & I can't wait to see pics!

  20. Pic in my avatar (sorry so blurry, they were crawling all over the place!). What is the night shift and cafe? Didn't see them on the main page.
There are piggie rescues - as many homeless piggies as cats and dogs sadly :(. Very hard to adopt them back out to good homes, though. Most people want them for thier kids or as starter pets and they are much more work to be healthy and happy than that.

As for the poster inquiring about my name - It is based on my rescues name (SnowFlower Cavy Rescue & Adoptions) which was named after my 1st two piggies - Snowy and Flower.

  21. Snowflower, the cafe and the night shift are where you can talk about just about anything. Here's the link to today's cafe so you can see what it's like. Lots of virtual eating goes on there - fewer calories that way!

    http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/18742

The night shift usually gets going around 5:00 pm or 6:00 - just depends. It will always be called The (something or other goes here) Night Shift.

It's just a place to have some fun.

  22. The Night Shift hasn't been started today and the cafe is titled TDK Wednesday July 8 Breakfast Cafe. They are in the list of threads. We had another here whose son had a pet pig. Have never had a pet pig but loved the stories!

  25. Update on the kittens.

Unfortunately Tiger, the tabby, unexpectedly passed away a week ago. They had both been eating kitten chow and I considered them weaned and healthy so left for 6 hours. I returned to him lifeless in the corner near the litter box and Callie, his sister, crying laying on his body. I picked her up and in the 6 hours I was gone I swear she became skin and bones and was freezing from cuddling with him. I tried offering her food and even tried forcing it thru a syringe (wet food) with no success. She was getting lethargic and I thought I was going to lose her too.

I made a fast run to the store to buy more milk replacer with Callie in my lap to warm her and said some pretty nasty things to the people who glared at me when I carried a kitten into Wal-mart (my apologies to those caught in the crossfire, I was in a rush and was not going to lose Callie without a fight!). After a long night of patiently forcing her to eat I felt safe enough that she would make it so I went to sleep.

I had just gotten 2 fosters from the humane society the day Tiger passed. After a vet check to make sure Callie was not ill and a talk with the Foster Coordinator the coordinator and I decided it would be a good idea to introduce Callie to the other kittens: Suzie 2 months and Kissie 3 months. Callie went back to nursing for a week and was very depressed. SO when the great introduction day came 2 days ago we were thrilled when Suzie began licking sweet baby Callie and they took her under thier wing like a little sister.

Yesterday night she started back on kitten chow (canned is the only one she will take right now and I'm not complaining!) and today used the litter box for the first time.

Sorry so long, it has been a horrible week with a wonderful ending. With all the extra care and bonding I have given Callie over the past week she will not be rehomed as previously planned - she is my forever Callie Girl and has a loving home here until it is her time to go to the Bridge, which I think won't be for many many years.

  26. How sad and awful to read of Tiger's sudden loss. And poor little Callie mourning her brother. God's precious creatures both.

Bless you for taking them in and for fighting so hard to save Callie from grieving herself away. No wonder she has a forever home with you now along with little Tiger being forever in your heart.

May little Callie grow to be big, strong, healthy, and full of cat joy bringing you joy and love. God bless.

  27. I'm sorry to hear about little Tiger. At least you know he had a kind and loving home before he went over the Bridge.

I'm very glad to hear that Callie has found her furever home. I wish both of you a long and loving relationship.

  28. Hi Snowflower. I'm really sorry about Tiger; I commented on your other thread. Looks like Callie is meant to share her life with you.
Welcome to TDK, the fluffiest site on the internet!

  29. Snowflower, I have tears in my eyes reading about little Tiger's passing and how Callie mourned his loss. I am so happy she has a forever home with you now, I can tell how much you love her. Your bond will be a source of joy for both you and Callie for years to come. Bless you for taking care of the kitties and being a foster mom ;o)
