  1. I am now working with a new manager (who happens to be an MD and a Ph.D) since my first one was laid off and this new one is a "pain in the arse". He is getting mad at me because I do not have access to his email folder and his meeting folder is filling up with all the invites and since I am having issues trying to get access, it is causing problems now with his sending/receiving email. When I went to him to confirm his flight arrangements, he basically told me in so many words, that you figure it all out as I do not have time for you.

I am having to call to get instructions from the executive assistant in my group (who is located in Southern Calif) and leave a message as she seems to never be available. I have to do this because there is no one in my building who will come over and help me (which has been the case since day one). Also, it involves having to go to my manager's computer to get things changed and what with all the meetings he is in, it is next to impossible to get a moment to get access to his computer.

Then to top it off, we have a new person in the group and it seems the person covering for the telecom person who is on vacation, is not responding to messages I am leaving for them to set up the phone, the computer guy didn't show up yesterday like he said he was and hasn't shown up today so far and facilities informed me that in order to raise the persons desk, they will have to contact an outside vendor which means it won't happen till after the Thanksgiving Holiday. I cannot seem to get anything taken care of at this point and everyone is coming down on me. I do not understand this company's policy of waiting to set things up the day the person arrives. I know they need the person to log in to help setup the computer, but they can do everything else.

Also, I am suppose to setup my boss's phone to ring on my phone but the Executive Assistant doesn't think I will have that capibility since I am only a temp. I am suppose to figure this out myself.

I am just an administrative assistant to the high and mighty doctor and three other doctors and who am I to ask for things to be taken care of. I want to yell at someone right now but cannot. I need a primal screaming room, stat!! Thank you for allowing me to vent.

  2. I am sorry Karin, I will be mean and stick someone real hard today just for you:-) I understand how frustrating DR's can be working in a hospital lab. I'll put the wack bonk stick with in easy reach for you.

  3. Someone that uptight must be constipated. Just picture her straining every time she starts getting your goat .............

  4. Thank you BHM. These doctors are research doctors and my boss is an Executive Medical Director which means he probably makes about five times my salary and of course with his MD and Ph.d that seems to mean to him that he can be a "horse's arse" to anyone he pleases.

  5. Sorry - that should read "picture him .........he.."

  6. Polly's Mum, I think he is uptight because one of the reasons I never see him eat anything but I do see him with a coffee cup most of the time. He is in a lot of meetings all day long so I think he may be a bit frustrated with all of this since he has only been at this company since April of 2007. I guess he has to prove that he can handle two drug studies and if he gets frustrated, he takes it out on me. Okay, I have been in this situation before but it is just that I have no help here. The other admins are either so over loaded that they don't have time to help or they just plain don't want to help because knowledge is power amonst the admins.

  7. So sorry Karen. Doctors tend to be the worst.
Nothing is working in my office either. They've put us across the street in a rental space while they remodel our building. Since I'm among the highest ranking people in this building now, everyone comes to me with problems I can't get fixed. We finally got an electrician out here though, so now it doesn't cut off power to half the office when someone uses the microwave.

  8. Karin - try switching him to decaf! Sorry you're having problems - I seem to remember someone on TDK saying they screamed into a jumper at work.

  9. MeezerMama, you and I are in the same boat without a paddle. I like being an admin and helping people and all but I do not like it when someone continuously comes to me to complain and I have done all I can by leaving the person multiple messages. I tell them, I have done all I can without going and trying to search for the person who could be anywhere in three buildings in my location or in the location in Fremont which is across the bay. I do know that this time next year, I am taking off this time off.

  10. I am SOOOOO in sympathy with all the issues! Not sure screaming would help though...I almost pulled a "Terri"...felt like saying 'take this job and put it where the sun don't shine'. Not smart so, just breathe and keep on kissing that hiney :(

  11. Well, I spoke with boss to clarify on his flight requirements and all. Sent him an email with the flight options but no response yet and I sent that four hours ago. He had time to call his wife and chat for about 10 minutes but not respond to my email. Sheesh.

Just got a call from a recruiter at a very large healthcare company for an admin position to a VP. They seem interested and asked if I have any offers on my table, I mentioned that I was going through a background check but no offer as of yet. Going through a background check doesn't always mean you have the job. I experienced that at a large CPA firm. They put me through four interviews and the background check and then they said they were pursuing another candidate who had more experience.

  12. The new position sounds prominsing. How would it be for commute, etc? Does sound like overtime for a change, huh?

  13. ok Karin, I actually got someone to storm out of the ER saying that I was being rude and mean because I put the torniquet on her arm. She was all rude and refused to make a fist for me and I told her that if she could not cooperate then I could not help her(said nothing about the rest of the people, ie nurse, x-ray, etc) but she stormed out and refused to sign the AMA sheet

  14. And I get to work with students who don't give a d*mn don't show up to work unless they feel like it, don't do anything once they are there and don't care. There never seem to be consequences because we are so short handed that the management just lets them get away with about anything. I had one little princess roll her eyes and huff off today when I asked her to get something that was needed for her line. That is part of my job to make sure the lines are full. I was so mad I went in the big walk in freezer and threw something and my boss was in their so I told him what she did so he went to her superviser so she did hear about it but I guess she does this all the time. Why do they put up with it. She spent the rest of the day huddled in a corner with another student whining I guess and looking all upset. Like I care I needed to vent, too. Thanks for listening

  15. Anytime, Sandi. I totally understand. Good thing your boss was so understanding and help deal with the situation. I have only had one boss who was like that and unfortunately the company went out of business.

Oh oh BHM...careful..don't want any malpractice suits.

  16. Sorry to hear about the obnoxious attitudes of some of the people that we have to work with, it does let me know that I am not alone in searching for intelligent life sometimes amongst those I work with.....sigh

Posted 4 years ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  17. Intelligent life??? Does that really exist in this time?

Posted 4 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  18. Karin, Right here, right now with all of us kitten lovers at TDK. I love my boss, he is one of the best I have worked for. I have been fortunate to work for some really good ones, though I have also had some really bad ones--I learned a lot from them WHAT NOT TO DO

Posted 4 years ago by Cat talk rules #

  19. Grr...I just found out that we will have to take the system off line for a couple of hours this afternoon to fix it. Guess I'll chat here during that time since I won't be able to do anything else

Posted 4 years ago by MeezerMama in OK; 10/23 #

  20. Oh no, MeezerMama. Maybe you can all go home early?? I hate when there are systems issues and we can't leave.

My boss is in early every morning (informed me that he gets in at 6am every day when there is no reason to be in that early). I don't get in till 7:30am and he pounces on me just as I sit down. This morning I thought it might be a nice easy day what with hardly anyone working but no, he is already being his usual prima donna self. He wants the car service that we normally order for him but he doesn't like that they always show up an two hours for a flight that is only going from SFO to Southern Calif. He also is allowing for a meeting to be scheduled at 1pm when I am sure those who are here will be leaving. Growl!!!!!

  21. Karin, my cats read what I said earlier about intelligent life form and they were somewhat put out. They are the most intelligent life form and we are below them. I thought about it and I have to agree who is the one who crawls out of a nice warm bed and goes out into the cold, cruel world to make money to buy the kibbles and who stays in the nice warm bed and is waited on hand and paw

Posted 4 years ago by Cat talk rules #

  22. Oh I am very sorry and apologize to all the cats. Of course they are intelligent life and we are the staff. I always say to my kitties, I am leaving this morning to go out and make money for us to be able to eat since no one else volunteers. Hee hee.

  23. LOL

  24. Oh, I miss my old team that I use to support. They were a good group of people who all treated me well. I wish I could have stayed with them. One of my managers direct reports is just a complete a**h*le! He constantly has been harassing me about his laptop and his phone being setup of which I can do nothing but keep calling the people who need to come and set it up. The phone guy doesn't return my calls but the computer guy finally set it up yesterday afternoon. Then, he calls some manager, leaves a message but doesn't leave her his cell number since his office phone number hasn't been setup. This woman calls me and must have had too much caffine because she is 20 questions in 20 seconds. I say to her please hold and go and get his cell number. OMG! Lady please, decaf!

  25. Karin, I know how frustrating it is to be thrown into a sink or swim job situation with no training or sympathy. But please understand the workload these execs are under and how much they rely on their support staff to smooth things so they can work. Why not get Instinct to teach you some good stress relieving exercise? It worries me that you vent on a public forum possibly ruining some future opportunities. Corporations and work advice sites are even warning the myspace generation to be cautious about their blogs and photos of spring break or all night partying. It has turned some bosses off hiring prospects. Just tell your boss how you "wish" that what they want was readily available and that you will do everything in your power to accomplish it.

  26. Sharon, these executives make five times my salary and I have no sympathy for someone who cannot treat their staff with common courtesy and professionalism. I will not put up with this unless they pay me $100k a year.

I am feeling attacked by you Sharon and I do not appreciate it. I never expected this from another TDKer and am very disappointed. I will stay off of TDK for now. I guess you all need a reprieve from me. Thanks a lot. Guess the husband wins. Bye.

Posted 4 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  27. Watching your back is not an attack. Their salary isn't the issue. How you are perceived and treated is.

    Posted 4 years ago by SharoninAustell46 #

  28. Karin - I haven't been in the loop for over a week, and have only just read this thread through from the beginning. I can fully understand how stressed up you must be feeling with this work situation on top of everything else you have been through over the last few months. I know from my own experience that this sort of backed up pressure can make people oversensitive, and I think this may be happening to you. I can't see anything of an attack nature in Sharon's post - truthfully, I see a friendly warning, something I wish I'd been given a year back when my work discovered my blog...it made, and still makes, work life very uncomfortable at times. Please don't stay off TDK, or your husband really has won. I hope to see you here again really soon. xx

  29. MCW, so sorry to hear about the tension in your workplace.I hate when that happens.

    Posted 4 years ago by SharoninAustell46 #

  30. Karin, perhaps your perception is a bit askew since you are very stressed. I think your anger toward Sharon is displaced. Constant venting about your job and your boss on a blogsite can get you fired-especially since you are a temp. And you do not need anymore stressors in your life.
