  1. My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you acquire me.
    *

Give me time to understand what you want from me.
    *

Place your trust in me. Remember that before you acquire me.
    *

Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, and your entertainment. I only have you.
    *

Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget.
    *

Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that can easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
    *

Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I don't understand what you ask of me or perhaps I am not feeling well, not getting the right food, been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
    *

Take care of me when I get old, you too will grow old.
    *

Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say " I can't bear to watch," or "let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier if you are there.
    *

Remember, no matter what, that I love you. Unconditionally.

  2. Very good words of wisdom. Something like this should be given with everyone who adopts a cat or kitten.

  15. brought a tear to my eye too. Especially the one about growing old. Makes me think of how everything revolved around the care of the boys, especially in their later years and almost a constant during their final weeks.

  17. Just found this -- thanks, JeanKit for bumping it -- I have conversations with my cats all the time (not that I know what we are talking about, but that's OK). Grumpy's been particularly talkative the past couple days as we get ready to move -- I guess he doesn't quite understand what's going on.

  30. I read this on a site for pit bulls and I cried so hard because my sister and I have saved several dogs from my brother one had to be put down the other almost died because of mange was so bad the vet wanted to put him down he was only 2 or 3 months of age. the vet said he had never seen a case that sever. Well he did survive. He then he went and got more. We have turned him in at least twice and no one has done anything about him. I normally would not say this about anyone or anything but the way he beats his dog it would serve him right if they turned on him. They need to be taken from him before they turn on someone innocent like his 5 year old daughter!!!! My heart bleeds every time I read this I always end up in tears!!
