  1. Hi there Kilroy! Have you got your singleton plans sorted out yet?

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  2. Kind of, I dunno (shrugs). My head's killing me and that's messing up my motivation to do anything, I went to the gym this morning, only lasted 10 minutes on the elliptical and didn't ask about hiring a trainer for while Mike's away. I should go to the library, but part if me is saying "the books you want won't be there anyway, so why bother?". Bah. I'll probably end up watching dumb television and eating junk the whole time he's gone.

  3. It's easy to slip into the apathy trap isn't it? Didn't I read somewhere you've got a friend coming to visit?

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  4. no, no Kilroy! You are having a fun day with your friend...movies and tea. and we will all nag you to do something else! I assume there is not much to be done about the headaches?

Posted 2 years ago by linda #

  5. ..... a long soaking bath?..... that usually makes me feel better when I get a head ache.......*looking up Sven's number for Kilroy* ........

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  6. AV! The other day you gave a recipe for chicken and "yellow" rice on WWM's thread...what is yellow rice?

Posted 2 years ago by linda #

  7. You're right, guys, my best friend is coming up from Philadelphia, and that will be fun (reminds me, I should e-mail her and see what she wants to do for dinner Sat. night)

The headaches only respond to strong drugs and lying flat on my back, although Sven is always welcome, thanks AV.

  8. Hi there everyone! Oh dear Kilroy, I really hope your head feels a bit better soon. I'm so glad that my migraines aren't more frequent.

  9. Oooh btw I got a couple of dwarf african aquatic frogs today! They're very cute and so far more lively than the newts.

  10. Hi metsa! How are you? Now I will have to go google dwarf african aquatic frogs...be right back

Posted 2 years ago by linda #

  11. oooh...altho not quite as cuddly as a kitty or puppy ;) What did you name them?

Posted 2 years ago by linda #

  12. Hi Metsa! You never cease to amaze me with the additions to your mini menagerie! I was sorry to hear about Sparky by the way :o(

  13. Mike and I are headed out for a walk, so I'll check back later. Thanks again, guys.

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  14. Take care, Kilroy! Enjoy your walk!

Posted 2 years ago by linda #

  15. Uhm, we haven't named them yet :). We can't tell them apart or tell their gender so it might be best to get a pair of interchangeable names. I'm avoiding Kermit! but any suggestions are welcome. Thanks MCW, it was a surprise but not a total shock. The frogs are pretty cute, but then I love lizards etc :). They are also tiny, about 1 cm each, and they have lovely big webbed feet. We might get some minnows in the tank too tomorrow.

  17. I think they're darling, Metsa! I like frogs and such....no snakes though, please!!!!

Posted 2 years ago by katthays #

  18. I'd love a snake but my darling has told me that I'll only ever be allowed an egg eater, they have no teeth! One day I will have a proper menagerie, with cats as the boss of them all ;).

  20. Yup, cats rule.....other critters are nice, too....but I have this thing about snakes and bats!!! Gives me the willies! LOL! Maybe it is the way snakes move....dunno...and one morning when it was still dark out, there was a bat by the window looking to get in it seemed....they live under our shutters.....ick!

  21. Hi Ange! Our times on here don't seem to cross that much, I haven't been on as much as I'd like recently anyway. Glad to hear that Mystie is being good and cheeky!
And I think that's quite common Katthays, most people are a bit freaked out by snakes. Makes more sense than liking them really when you think about how dangerous they can be; human instinct must surely say that we stay away from them! But I think they're beautiful and fascinating. I'm ok with most animals and bugs actually, the only things that really get me are wasps and hornets, and shiny tarantualas. I am even fine with bees and hairy tarantulas, although I have never held one (and don't intend to!) :).

  22. Linda, yellow rice is a spanish dish. It's rice that has been colored/flavored by saffron, and has spices like bell pepper, oregano, garlic, and such. It's really yummy. You can usually buy it in the rice section, pre-packaged and ready to cook. Vigo is the most common brand, but you can make your own too.

    Traditional chicken and yellow rice:
    Ingredients:
•2 frying chickens, cut up, leave skin on, bone in
    •2 1/2 cups long-grain rice
    •1 green bell pepper, sliced
    •1 med onion, chopped
    •1 teaspoon saffron
•1 jar (2 oz) pimiento, chopped
    •2 tablespoons olive oil
    •1 clove garlic, minced
•1 large can lesuer tiny green peas for topping
•5 1/2 cups chicken stock heated
•2 teaspoons salt, 1/2 tsp. pepper
    a couple of bay leaves
    chopped fresh parsley for garnish
    Preparation:
Sprinkle chicken pieces with salt/pepper and brown in olive oil (set aside). Saute green pepper and onion in olive oil until tender. Put in a large roasting pan; add all ingredients except chicken and mix together thoroughly, make sure stock is very hot when you add it. Place chicken on top of the rice mixture, skin side up. Cover tightly with heavy duty foil and cook at 375 degrees for 30 min. Turn down to 350 and bake for another hour. Remove cover and serve topped with a heated and drained can of leseur tiny peas, and fresh choped parsley. Serves 8. (you can easily half this receipe)

My hints I posted the other day were - always use rice in portions of 1 cup rice to 2 cups stock, then no matter how much you're making, add an addition 1/2 cup of stock. This just keeps it perfectly moist and tender. Also, by all means use the Vigo pre packaged yellow rice, and just buy a package of your favorite chicken pieces, but remember bone in, skin on. You can always "deskin" it when you're ready to eat, but the skin keeps the chicken moist and adds flavor during the cooking process. This is one of my favorite receipes to serve to a large crowd, it's real easy because it's all put together ahead of time, and that way you can enjoy your guests.

  23. Hi, we're back. Stopped at the library and I got one book, which is probably all I'll need (it's 500+ pages). Plus when we got home there was a DVD in the mail that I've been looking forward to (The History Boys), so I think I'm set.

George just made a very impressive leap from the window sill to the computer desk, and is now curled up looking satisfied.

  24. Hi all! AV, that yellow rish dish sounds heavenly! I am so sorry about your headache Kilroy, I can totally relate! I wish I had even half the motivation to walk around the block! I need to start working out again! What happened to the girl that used to work out an hour in the morning and an hour at night seven days per week!!?? Oh right, she had brain surgery! Hi to everyone else I missed!

  26. I have finished doing two performances as the Duchess and am taking a bit of a break from the break down. It went very well. Pictures soon!

  27. {{{{{{Linda}}}}}}} You're at work? That totally sucks. Here are the words for today: climb; team car; high definition. Good luck!

  28. Afternoon again! Its too hot to do much here in the Old Pueblo, 100+ and just hard to breathe kind of hot.

Kilroy, I totally understand pushing thru the headache for daily life, if I gave in every time I had one I would never do anything either. But there are times it just beats me and I know better than to fight it then.

Kykat, that had to be fun playing the Duchess. I just watched a different movie called Phoebe in Wonderland, about a little girl and her relationship with the characters in Wonderland.

WWM, hmmm ok I like high definition for the word of the day, going to go watch something on the tube.
