My boyfriend found a kitten today while he was out for a walk downtown. She was small and looked aboned so he brought her home. I would say she is probably about 5 or 6 weeks old. Ive had a kitten before who was 8 weeks old when i got her and she was much more alert than the kitten we found today and she looks more more fragile. We got some formula which she ate a lot of and has just been sleeping all day. I noticed her twitching a bit while sleeping. Is all of this normal? We want to keep her and give a good home... anyone who fosters kittens a lot have some advice to help give me some peace of mind? Im such a worry wart...

Hi Gina, Welcome to TDK. Depending on how long the little one was out by itself it is probably exhausted. just keep feeding her and make sure she is warm. Do you know if she can potty by herself? There will be others that will post but sometimes the weekends are slow. Keep us posted on how the little one is.

Hi Gina, welcome to TDK and thanks for rescuing the kitten!
Hopeully when she gets some rest and more food in her system, she'll perk up. We have several foster moms around here, and I'm sure some of them will be able to help you out.
Best of luck and please let us know how she's doing. -
She just went pee, in her litter box too!

That's very good! As young as she is, she may not poop every day if she is not eating solid food yet. Since she has pee'd in the litter box she should be able to poop on her own also. What color is she? we love pictures. You can click on my avatar & it will take you to my Catster page and you can see my cats.

Hi Gina, I haven't been fostering kittens for long, but here's my experience:
Since she is on her own, she will probably feel safest in a small area with a kitten-sized box or bed to hide in. A small stuffed animal might also help her feel safe.
If she is 5-6 weeks, you can probably start her on kitten food, I start by getting her to lap formula and then eventually add kitten food to it. From what I've seen, many kittens act uninterested and then one day it clicks for them.
She's so young so you can teach her a lot, like to be comfortable being held and petted and if you make sure to touch her paws and mouth a lot (but not let her bite you) she'll be easy going later when you want to clip her nails and check her teeth.
Good luck and thanks for rescuing her!

I just posted a pic of Lily Lou... but I cant seem to take one that does her justice. She's all black with a little white patch on her chest. She got up for a while and was full of energy, which releived me. She ran around for 15 to 20 minutes and then passed out under the coffee table. Weve made a little bed for her in the bath tub. My my year and a half year old cat, Lola, isn't a very friendly cat but seems to be getting used to her.
She's sleeping on my stomache right now, is it norml for her to twitch a bit?
Thanks for all the advice and well wishes :)

Awwww she is a little cutie!!! Sounds like she is doing well. As for the twitching when she sleeps it could be that she is twitching because she is dreaming, I would take her to the vet in anycase to have her checked out thoroughly. Your boyfriend sounds like a swell guy for rescueing her & you are an angel for taking such good care of her.

Gina-- twitching is perfectly normal if we are talking about a little twitching occasionally (not constantly) and not convulsing! Where is the picture you posted or do you mean the avatar picture?
I know money doesn't grow on trees and this might be hard for you but this kitten *really* needs to be brought to the vet as soon as possible for a health check and shots. You may be putting your adult cat at risk (not real likely but perfectly possible) and you certainly want to make sure that the kitten is healthy. If it isn't,the sooner you know and can treat the kitten, the better.

Awww, you said she has a little white patch on her chest. Do you know what this is? It's where the angels kissed her.

If that's her on your avatar, she is Gorgeous! What a sweet innocent little baby, and I love her name! goes well with lola too (my old girl r.i.p. was called lolita, but we called her lolie and lol all the time). I agree with the others, try to get her down to the vet for a check. It may be too early for her shots, but they can reassure you that she's healthy. Make sure she's eating well, and getting moisture in her food, or just water. Don't give her milk, it may give her diarrhea.
