  1. The guy across the street has been playing music LOUD since midnight. I've got my windows shut, air on and a ceiling fan on and can hear it. Woke me up out of a sound sleep. Sad thing is, he's a major jerk who tends to like to "get even" with people, so everyone, including me, is scared to call the cops. Young kid, early to mid-20's. Not good enough that i'm an insomniac anyway (and was sleeping!) that he has to act up.

    Lainey's bitch for the day...

  2. How in the world would he know it is you calling the cops? If the cops are called often enough they will get sick of him, and if you do call the police--tell them he is threatening anyone with revenge if they call the police.

  3. I did break down and call and everytime he sees them he turns the music off and after they leave it's back on. Ugh.

  4. I just talked to the police, again, and they said "well everytime the officer comes out it's quiet." Well, duh, he sees the car coming (he's outside) and turns it off. I "suggested" to them that the officer park up the street and walk down. "We'll have an officer come talk to you." NO! This guy has a several assault charges as it is, I don't want to be added to his list! It's quiet right now. Hope it stays that way.

  5. That is NOT a pleasant thing to have on an everynight basis in your life. Can't some of the neighbours get together quietly on this one, and involve a community officer or something to stop this bully wrecking everyones' heads?

  6. blast some good music really loud right back! :0 nah kidding.....man, i hate ppl like him. the music thing is more minor issue, but you know, since he does have a thrist for revernge, he may do serious damage to sum1 one day.....maybe you get a friend or sumthing he wouldn't know to call the police from a pay phone so he wouldn't know what hit em

  7. Everyone is afraid of this guy. I guess he's just a bully (but he does throw real punches). If it happens again I will make sure the police hear the music when I call. His most recent assault charge was last Thursday. Looks like he's gonna be one of those who is always in trouble and then one day he'll make the news and people will wonder why he is out on the street! Everyone on the street is afraid of him. I bet I'm the only one who called. I call the non-emergency number and on my cell phone and each time I called I was sure to tell the call taker that I was afraid of him and didn't want my name/address to be traceable. The last call taker also said that next time I can ask to speak to a Sargeant, which is what I'll do. I finally got to sleep about 3:30, the music stopped for good around 3am.

  8. Gee, sounds like the people next door. They have parties outdoors until 2am, and if you ask them to please be quiet, they get noisy. They've have parties in the driveway, why I don't know unless it's to be more annoying because that's right under our windows. One of them also has a car alarm, which goes off if someone sneezes. If I knew how to hot wire cars, I'd push that thing over a cliff.

  9. While it does not seem to apply in your case, Nirmal's suggestion has some merit. There was a family who blasted their ethnic music all hours of the night into the neighborhood. Some of it was quite catchy and good but not at 12 or 1 am. They also pulled the shut off and restart bit when the cops arrived.

Their next door neighbors were elderly and needed their rest. The man was also a former co-worker of my Fathers. I got him to speak to the man and his wife about a plan and we arranged with the other neighbors and him not to call on us.

My Ex had a Sound (P.A.\Concert) Business and we setup the pro speakers mixers and amps to do some "sound tests" aimed at the disturbance accross the street. When the party started we would wait until about 9:45 then crank up just enough to drown them out. After playing my system is louder than yours for a while they would give up and tear down. It took about 2 weeks but they party animals finally got the message and stopped their noise polution at the City curfew of 10 pm from then on.

For you Lainey, could you possibly get an off duty officer to serve as a witness as to the noise and the temporary respite of an official visit?

  10. There is a woman I work with who's son is an officer in my county. She is off today but I will talk to her tomorrow and see if he can help me out. I only have a little boom box and I doubt I could drown him out. Thanks everyone for the ideas and support!

  11. Bagpipes...you need bagpipes. I have a friend who is a piper and he has been known in situations like this to go outside the offenders house at an ungodly hour in the morning and serenade them! A recording of bagpipes would do. Or something from the lawrence welk collection played at beyond full blast. (with the other neighbors cooperation of course)

  12. I've lived in so many apartments and can't get over the shamelessness of people keeping others awake, or just subjecting everyone within hearing range to their "taste" in music. Police are useless in these situations. The only time I ever had any luck getting excessive loud noise stopped was when the neighbors and myself repeatedly wrote the landlord. Each time we phoned the police we seperately as a group sent certified mail complaints to the landlord. He/she did not renew the lease of that tenant but we had to put up with this kids "parties" until the lease expired. Luckily the next tenant was considerate of others so I think they were checked more carefully than the previous tenant. The building I am currently living in has recently had a rock band move in who has decided to practice here on weekends. I've been here a few years and never had this type of problem yet....I know some bagpipe players though and the hallways echo like crazy!!!!!!

  13. I like the suggestions!! Kykat, Lawrence Welk is a good idea, or maybe Slim Whitman!!!

  14. May I suggest Celtic music?
    Loud Celtic music?
Eerie and depressing and deeply scary and LOUD Celtic music?
And ALL of the neighbors playing it at once?

Suicides may result, but it will be VERY quiet afterwards.

  15. Oh Emma, priceless! Thanks everyone... at least coming here is keeping me smiling!

Posted 2 years ago by Jetta and Boo Boo's Mom #

  16. Do you have a block club/watch that can approach your area to pass a loud music ordinance...they passed one in Milwaukee recently...it worked!

Posted 2 years ago by jeankit #

  17. Oh dear! I guess I am weird because I LOVE bagpipes and LOVE Caltic music even more! Good thing I won't be blasting any loud music. I do however have several CDs of both Celtic music and bagpipes Lainey! I also have a great cup of coffee for you--Komodo Dragon fresh ground. It is strong and robust--it might help a little. Prayers of peace and quiet for you tonight so that you can actually get some sleep.

He is a thug and thinks only of himself--I have other descriptive words but maybe not here. Lets pray for orange in his future!

  18. Soxsmom, I too love bagpipes and celtic music but there are a lot of people who do not like the bagpipes and playing it nice and loud can make them close their windows.

I agree with Krazikat in regards to how people will move into an apartment complex and treat it like they are the only one living there. The offender acts surprised or upset when you ask them to turn down their music or tv or ask their children to be quiet and not run and yell in the place.

Everyone had good suggestions. I like the idea of asking an off duty officer to come and witness the noise. You might see if you can include your neighbors with you when you call the police. Also, it would be good if you documented the fact that the noise maker is known to retaliate and has assaulted others so that the police will treat him more seriously.

  19. Kykat's idea is GREAT. Talk with your neighbors first, then have at this booger at about 6am....alternate the tape/cd between the neighbors.

OR...Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries (hee hee hee)

Or....one of those airhorn doodads that seem to be popular at football games.

Check with Public Safety on what they might suggest. Unmarked cop car or plain clothes officer wouldn't tip off this butthead as much as a uniformed officer in a regular cop car.

  20. Oh yes, one of the nice airhorn things at about 6am every morning for five days. Great idea Siobhan!!

Posted 2 years ago by SylMiaFelixMomma #

  21. Ohhhh I just thought of another idea. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald played over and over and over!

    Posted 2 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  22. Kykat, you are deeply cruel.

**Emma bows humbly to such ingenuity, all in one person!**

  23. Just have to clarify, I love Celtic music and bagpipes. The way I learned how unbelieveably LOUD the pipes were was from trying to form a scottish music group and sing along with bagpipes. The singers and guitar could not be heard over the pipes! Ya, I think The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald played repeatedly could fix most neighborhood noise problems.

Posted 2 years ago by krazikat #

  24. OH NO!!! Now I have that horrible Edmund Fitzgerald song stuck in my head!!!!

Play opera - that should do it.

  25. no, no, no. play the 1812 overture complete with cannons and fireworks, sure to be a crowd pleaser ...

Posted 2 years ago by CSBM #

  26. Oh yes, the 1812 Overature is good. So is Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyrie."

Posted 2 years ago by Marnet #

  27. "It's A Small World" - will kill or stun anything human in a 5 mile radius! Your neighbourhood may be declared a Superfund site for the next decade after however.

Posted 2 years ago by KapitiKats in NZ #

  28. Our band played the 1812 Overature for their final performance last school year. I know I am just a band geek Mom, but I love that one too--especially the cannons! I do however think that at 2-3am it would seriously disrupt the happy mood that you neighbor is trying to instill by sharing his music!

  29. Well it was a quiet and peaceful night and Lainey got some much needed sleep! Did have to run to the rehab to check on dad, and when I went outside, they were urinating on the side of the house (broad daylight, too).. classless... just classless.

Posted 2 years ago by Jetta and Boo Boo's Mom #

  30. Too bad you can't slightly electrify the side of their house. *evil grin*
