  1. WWM, I have been thinking about getting one of those upside down tomato plant growers, I think they are called topsy-turvy. I think someone here posted about them awhile back, it sounded like they were getting lots of tomatoes from theirs! My tomatoes were storebought but the cucumbers were grown by a friend of mine.

  2. I didn't go to the gym today (yesterday's early rising caught up with me), but I'm definitely going tomorrow. But what I also didn't do today was go up to the company cafeteria and get myself a "treat" before work. I do that WAY too often (usually Danishes or hashbrowns and sausage - eek!). I made a New Year's resolution to quit doing that, and was pretty good for a while, but then I got lazy/stressed out.

My big challenge tonight is dealing with all the leftovers in our fridge; Mr. K made a killer potato salad before he left and if I'm not careful I might eat all the rest of it, which would be bad.

  3. Yes, but a small portion tonight wouldn't be bad, Kilroy. With some broiled or baked chicken, maybe? Or fish?

I have seen ads for the topsy turvy tomato planter and was tempted early this year. It's been so hot the tomatoes would probably cook before they were ripe!

  4. Another point of interest veggie-wise. If you are looking to lose weight, avoid broccoli and cauliflower... they are gassy and will bloat you. Could cause you to become frustrated ! Even know this, I ate both for dinner last night... and am 'suffering' the consequences today.

  8. I'm loving drinking iced green tea. It gets rid of a lot of bloating.

  9. .... I Love the "gassie" girls!..... so true...however, many of those "gassie" veggies can be "quick" sauteed in a tiny bit of EVOO and a "tiny" pat of butter,...... and will be healthy, delicious, and will take some of the "gaseous" toxins out of it!......calories... very little.... carbs... hardly none!... and well, the "good" fats.........

  10. I definietely want to join this. I lost 15lbs earlier this year, but I gained it back after being so tired of the exercise and diet routine. I am a nursing student with soooo little time for gym or preparing healthy foods. Trust me, I do know exactly what I need to do to lose the weight. The only problem for me is time. I am easily tired and I dont want to add an extra task (walking or joggin) to my already busy day. I said I want to postpone losing weight until April when I will be done with school. But I seriously do not want ot wait that long. Hopefully this will work out.

  11. Welcome Snownniesy, your kitty is beautiful! You have such a busy schedule, it's like a catch 22, exercising and healthy foods will help you keep up with it better but its hard to schedule in time for yourself. One thing that helps me is keeping baby carrots, celery sticks, and other healthy choices around for snacking. Sometimes I have to cut them up on a weekend or do some preparation but it pays off during the week. There are lots of nurses on TDK who can offer advice too. My sister is a nurse, when she was in school it seemed like all she did was go to school, work and studied the rest of the time. Hope you can get some inspiration and tips from everyone here. This is a great group.

  12. Snownniesy, I remember those days of being a student nurse like it was yesterday. Actually, it was a lot of yesterday's ago, but it was that traumatic! I know that time is short, but you can get an awful lot of benefit by doing three 10 minute workouts during the day. It's amazing the places where we can find 10 minutes if we just readjust our thinking!

  13. It is already Thursday & we are still on our healthful habit routines/thread...see, it is getting easier!(I did walk to work today and plan on more exercise tonight with a high protein/low carb approach to my menu but some frozen yogurt for a treat later!)

  14. I know I'm a bit late jumping on the bandwagon, but it's finals week. I'd been working out really well earlier this summer and eating healthier, but I stopped. It'll be nice to have some wonderful accountability partners on here. I'm 5'5, 23 years old, and weigh 202 according to my wii and 213 according to the doctor. Good luck, everyone!

  15. I saw several great names for our group and I started a thread "Thoroughly Dedicated Kits 7-16-09" today and will start one everyday (anyone can start it!) but that is how we can find our group and have a daily update. Just a thought/suggestion.

Going to go get some gingerale and then back to bed for a while. Hope to be back later this afternoon feeling even better!

    In good health,
    Lainey

  16. Snownniesy, I recently had to change my eating habits and lost 35 lbs in about 4 months. I'm now working 60 hrs. a week and do not have time to cook healthy meals or exercise, either.
It can still be done! I can't believe how much it helped eating 6-7 snacks/meals a day instead of traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner. I bring cups of yogurt with me to work, a piece of fruit, some trailmix, etc. with me to work and eat every couple of hrs.
I used to play a lot of tennis, but I haven't been on a tennis court in a month and I'm still managing to lose weight.

Even if you're busy, you can totally do this!!!

  17. Seems like the key is fitting your exercise and nutrition into smaller time bites so you can manage your schedule. A few small (healthy) meals a day and a few 10 min walks (or other exercies)...you will definitely feel better in no time ;o)

  18. Hello Fit & Healthy TDKers on the beginning of a new work week with promising
possibilities! I didn't totally go off the "diet" on the weekend with attending our Festa Italiana celebrating but definitely will stick to the high protein/low carb game plan during the work week! I'm on to some yard kp/aerobic's tonight...good luck to all on your new healthy lifestyle!
