Okay, Okay! Got the trap, set it up by the shed, nothing happened. I saw him on Sunday and again this morning. Last night I moved the trap from the shed to the edge of the trees, and this morning I saw him checking it out. He was sniffing around the back of it where the food is, but he didn't go around to the front where the opening is. So tonight I put a hot dog in there, tied it up high and have been watching out my window ever since. He knows there is food there, but he also knows this is a trap and so he doesn't want to go inside. Hes one smart cat!!

Jadete...Great news that he's sticking around! Did you try propping the door open for a couple of days? That will allow him to go inside & eat what you put in there & he won't be so leery of it. Then after a couple days of being able to eat the yummies inside & not fearing it trapping him,you can unlodge the trap so it will spring again. Tnat's how I had to get Hopper less scared of it. They make one heck of a sound when they slam shut,so I imagine that's why he's being nervous around it.
Lots of continued Prayers that he decides to go in. He'll be soooo happy he did...well,maybe not at first. :)
BTW...I'm sure you get a lump in your throat every time he gets close to the trap. lol. I guarantee...that will stop...but only after he's inside. :)

Well at least he is still kicking and sticking to the turf! That is all good news. Also I hope for a quick snatch now that you have feral's Hopper trap!

Caught that danged raccoon again....I just finished washing out the trap and setting it up again. I am really going thru the plastic bowls! Why do they have to mangle them up like that? The raccoon hissed and growled at me while I was letting it loose, but it didn't need any prodding to get out this time. I thought about washing down the area in the trees, but then what good would that do? The whole place has about a hundred different smells anyway. But I did put the trap off to the side of where it was though, so the smell wouldn't be so concentrated. Well, got to go get ready for work.

OK-- here is an unbelievably stupid question but why plastic? I feed my outdoor cats from styrofoam bowls (which are quite cheap-- even if you get Hefty) because I can just toss them out and not have to wash them.
Is there anything that raccoons particularly like to eat that cats don't? If so, you might set it out far enough away from the trap so that Hoover isn't spooked. Maybe if the raccoon isn't hungry, he will leave the trap alone...
