  1. As some of you know, Mr. WWM is doing a 150 mile bike ride this weekend to raise awareness of, and raise research money for, multiple sclerosis. I'm really more than a bit concerned because we are having a rather severe heat wave here in West Texas. But he is bound and determined to do this!

Last night Kittymom emailed me with a great idea but we need your help! She thinks that we should design a "Virtual Heat Overload Shirt" to protect Mr. WWM on his ride. As you know, the COA is a TDK invention and it has prevented many a terrible accident.

How about it, TDK Family? Can you come up with a virtual shirt that will protect Mr. WWM with the famous TDK powers?

  2. I'll get out my sewing machine!!! In the meantime, be sure he has cool bands (the head bands that you soak in water) they keep you hydrated much longer.

  3. I ordered three on eBay and gave them to him last week on his birthday, 2bp! At first he just looked at them like "What the....."????? But then he soaked them and wore one yesterday. He liked it!

  4. .... I cannot expound enough on how much I liked my sunprotective clothing that I bought for the Dominican Repubic..... here is just one of many sites:

    http://www.coolibar.com/men-s-clothing.html

.... I highly recommend the shirts, as they are comfortable, provide 50+ SPF, for both UV/UBA..... but what impressed me the most was how COOL I stayed in it.... mine was a body glove, that I swam in...... it really kept me cool and kept my body temperature down! ..... I was so skeptical, thinking "ick" this thing is going to be so hot, but it really wasn't!.... it was very breathable, kept the sun off my skin, and for the quickest cooldown, just wet it with some water, and it really holds the cool in.......

... if he doesn't already own one, you can buy them at your local sports authority type store.....many lines are made specifically for bikers, and they also make hats and other stuff......

  5. Hydrate and salt tablets are key in heat but you already knew that WWM. I checked out the link that AV provided. Interesting things to wear to cover you but still stay cool.

  6. Thanks AV, I have seen this clothing before and wondered if it actually worked. Each year I am less tolerant of the heat. I think I'll go shopping

  7. ..2b, it was definitely one of the best purchases I've made in recent years!.... I play golf in it too!.... not only do I like how cool it keeps me, but I don't have to smear myself with all that sticky sunscreen goop - I only use it on the "exposed" parts - my hands, legs, and face!..... I'm so allergic to so many creams and sunscreens, that most make me break out in itchy rashes!... so, these shirts have been "skin savers" for me!......

This is me in my sunshirt when we played golf in the Dominican.... I loved it!

  10. Go Andy!!!!!! Purrs from Sammy & Oliver...

  11. Since it is a Virtual shirt, I have one that has pockets sewn in for ice packs. The ice packs are like the juice bags for kids so that when they melt he can grab one, insert straw and have a quick drink of water!

These are spf 50 from Lands end, now at $7, some Sears stores carry them. Got some for my 3 men, they're soft cotton and quite comfy.

  13. Oh, that sounds like a great shirt, KK!

He doesn't own shirts like those, AV. I might look at Academy Sports. But he'll be wearing a bike jersey for the ride. It takes a very confident man to wear that much Spandex!

  14. As far as virtual shirt....I can barely sew a hemline, so I'll send my best wishes along and a "cool" TDK kitty for company.

  15. All my best to Andy! =)

  16. Great prices on the tees, TL! good site!....

... WWM, they make these sun shirts in "bike shirts" (and shorts/pants) style.... lots of spandex!

..... ok, this made me laugh.... maybe gone too far!...

  17. I swear by lots and lots of water and saltine crackers. Go, Mr. WWM! Does he have a bright-pink t-shirt that says "powered by TDK" on it? :D

  18. Lol AV. incognito Mr WWM
BTW, the Lands end site has a sale with free shipping this week

  19. AV, don't know where you found that but it is hilarious! I am not much of a sewer but Betty and Wilma are working on a Velcro Spandex shirt that has little fans in it to keep Mr. WWM quite cool! We all wish him the best and make sure he drinks LOTS of WATER

  21. .... that's cool (literally) 2b!.... now we're on the right track!

.... maybe we should order them two hats, a matching one for WWM..... with a big pair of Jackie O sunglasses.... might be new good look for her!.... LOL.... *envisions* the "incognito" WWMs at the bike race!..... LOL

  22. 2B, I knew my idead had to be too good to not be out there somehwere. But i still like the idea of the ice packs turning into potable water in my virtual world.

    Posted 8 months ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  23. Wow the vest is sort of $$$$! Maybe I can just buy a bag of ice and dump it down his jersey?

I don't think that I have time to order anything at this point and have it arrive by Friday. But I just might be able to reproduce that stunning hat! Of course, it will be in quilters fabric. Do you think he will look odd wearing calico?

  24. look for bandanas with sewn in tubes containing a polyester water absorbent material. You soak them in icewater and tie them around the head for cooling. They used to be quite popular in W TX.

  25. A "do-rag"!!!! I actually suggested that he wear on under his bike helmet because he is rather... ummmm ..... follicly impaired on the top of his head. He looked at me like I had gone completely wacko. But I'll bet that he won't think that when the top of his head gets burned through the openings in his bike helmet!

Posted 8 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  26. You might want to look into a personal climate control device. Those are miniature air conditioners that wrap around the neck. BTW the "do-rag" with the water absorbant can be tied around the neck over the pulse points to cool the blood.

  27. Definitely sunscreen that pate of his!
