Redford is rapidly deteriorating. He eats very little, can no longer walk, as his hind legs give out, and his kidney failure and heart failure are getting worse. Our vet will come to the house tomorrow between 11:30 AM-12:30pm and lead him gently over The Bridge while Victor and I hold him and whisper our love to him. I know this is right, but I am so devastated. My baby and I have been together for 18 years an I can't imagine how life will be without him. Victor and I have taken turns crying today, and Mitzi is worried about her big brother as well. Please pray for us tonight-this will be so hard, even though I know he is no longer happy and wants to play with other kitties across the Bridge. So yes, I know it is the right and compassionate thing to do--but my heart is broken.

I know how you feel. If you can, could you be with Redford when your baby passes? My poor Claude died all alone in a cold, sterile hospital, awaiting an operation that the vet said would save him. I still feel bad about it, years later.

Oh RW I am so, so sorry. My heart to you and Victor and of course your beautiful Redford, and little sis Mitzi. May the angels guard over him tonight and bring your hearts some peace. Ginger I am so very sorry. My heart is breaking for you and Victor both. I know you have known this was coming, but that doesn't make anything easier. I think Redford has let you know he is now ready to go--I think MS's poem is appropriate now. My prayers are with you all--and my tears flow with many others. Prayers of comfort to you dearest Ginger.

Oh Ginger, I am soooooooo sorry! I know the hurt you're feeling as I went through the same thing with my Spanky almost 7 years ago. Please cherish the time that you have with him tonight---I look back on Spanky and I's 'last night' and feel blessed that I had the time to tell him how special he was and how much he meant to me. A lot of kitty owners don't have that opportunity and it has helped me a lot in my grieving for him. Again, I do know your hurt and my prayers will be with you all.

I'm so sorry about your Redford. I know the pain to well. but know in your heart it is the right thing to do. I just recently had to put my horse down. I got her before I had my daughter I had her for 25plus years. They are part of the family and always will be. There are plenty of our pets there at the rainbow bridge that will be there to welcome him.

It wasn't difficult for me to break out crying when I read your thread RW. I know how much sweet Redford means to you & Victor. You've all been thru so much together. I'm so very sorry that Redford's time has come. He Loves you both,but,you know that. He will be so strong & playful again at the Bridge. Please find Peace in that he'll have that strength & energy once again.

Ginger, I know how hard this is for you. I have been through it myself. Even though they are ready to go, it doesn't make it any easier. Redford has been surrounded by love all his life and will go with that love at the end of his life. He will live forever in your heart. May his crossing the bridge be peaceful as he lie in your arms knowing all the love in the world. Redford, if you see Kinker & Zeus (my Rottie) when you get there please give them a headbutt for me, they were both gentle giants. Something I wish I had done with Kinker before he passed was to get his pawprint on a card or something, if that sounds like something you would want to have also.

Dear Ginger: I am weeping for you as I read these posts. It brings back memories of my last night with my dear Sam. I stayed up all night in case he should need something. I only wish I had a vet who made housecalls as my only regret is that Sam went over the Bridge in the doctor's office. How I wish I could have spared him that last journey! How lucky Redford is to pass in familiar surroundings where the last sound will be the voices of those who love him! And the last thing he will feel is your gentle touch and then blessed freedom from pain.
