  1. Evening all - thought I'd better get this show on the road. Buffet is all set-up but be quick before we get another tremor and it all ends up on the floor. Door frames and heavy tables are prepared for your emergency use. Sven will provide first aid if required.
The special drink of the night is a Richter Scale - half vodka, half tequila with a twist of lemom. If the ground isn't spinning after drinking 3 of those....have another!

  2. I'm home from working a double KK, I'll have two Richter Scales please to unwind.

  3. In frozen glasses please!

  4. Woohoo - its the KK show! A double Richter Scale coming your way. (I made that drink up but I have the ingredients in my cupboard so maybe I'll have to give it a try.)

  5. They've had lots of aftershocks today. MS and I have 2 nieces living in the nearest city to the epicentre - MS will have an update from them later I'm sure.

  6. I have never experienced a "real" earthquake, but there was one scary tremor in New England when I was growing up. Our house shook and lurched. That's the only way I can describe it and it scared the daylights out of me!!! Well, it scared everyone! Are you all okay? Are you going to sleep inside or outdoors?

  7. Ooooh my, a refreshing concoction these Richter Scales! *slurp, slurp*

  8. I hope your neices are alright, being near the epicenter doesn't sound too relaxing.

  9. We're fine where we are - it was right down the bottom of the South Island and MS, Jcat and I are all in the North Island. Not sure if my nieces will sleep well though. Fortunately the area where the quake happened is a remote, mountainous area with virtually nil population. The Southern Alps like to 'stretch' once in awhile.

The very bottom left cluster of stars on the South Island is where the quake was.

  11. Hi all! I am just in from my "dinner date" which went super! I am tired and off to bed. Just wanted to say stay safe to our kiwi friends and good day to all who were here. See you on the other side of the alarm clock. (fyi: there is an MC dinner date thread because everyone wanted details.....)

  12. I see. Yes, it seems like these types of quakes make islands into bigger land masses. It is a little unnerving when something like that is happening. I'm not terrified of thunderstorms or anything, but I don't really like them.

  13. Ooooh! I adore dinner dates. I will read all about it. Nights Amy!

  14. Well I'm off to make dinner - Spaghetti Carbonara (with a hint of chili) and Moroccan garlic bread. Yes - very global! Sven is in charge - he's currently cowering under the table mixing a fresh drink for KraziKat.

  15. Thanks for the drinks KK. You all take care in New Zealand.

  16. Wow!! I hope all our NZ kitties and furrparents are doing well... I hail from So. California, so I've been thru a few 'hefty shakers' in my day; all I can say is "if it doesn't kill ya, it'll make ya stronger", and that's the truth ;-) Seriously, I will say a prayer for all of you - please take care.

KK, I think I'll have one of those Richter Scales, up, and stirred, not shaken, if you know what I mean!!!

  17. *Pushes open the door, eyes alight on the bar, mixes herself a 'seismic shock' -- gin and freshly squeezed passionfruit juice...

I'm here early tonight, going to be working on papers but available to chat. Heard several times today that the earthquake last night was the largest earthquake in the world so far this year. We were very lucky it happened in Fiordland... So far, still no reports of major damage except for those exploding soda bottles in supermarkets...

  18. Pops head around the NS door and sees the bar, mixes herself a 'Kiwi Tsunami', 42Below vodka and kiwifruit juice, toss it down quickly and you have your Tsunami. Brrrrrrr!
There has been so many aftershocks they haven't counted them yet, doing that next week. The area the quake happened in is accessible only by helicopter or boat with very few permanent homes. Some commercial fishermen had a wild ride and the still waters suddenly developed a roaring tide that rose and fell several feet quite randomly and conservation workers in huts had to hold on to anything they could. Still very little damage, some broken windows and cracked walls etc.

  19. Hi, MS, gosh, this earthquake stuff is good for inventing new cocktails, don't you reckon?

I hadn't heard that about the DOC workers or the fishermen, last I heard they were just sending people out to check on them. We are all in the cafe, MS, where I want to hear all about why you were so busy today (assuming you're allowed to tell us, lol!)

  20. It's 11.15pm, NZ time, ...the night is very chilly in NZ and cool to warm in USA ..... so time to close Night Shift and snuggle under the comforters, so here goes gratis AZDEBRA, LV , & Tigger from the beginning....good job everyone & bless you...

    check - turns fountains off
check - sweep the floor (never know who has been tossing stuff around)
check - lights off and turns out neon "TDK Night-Shift" and "Poetry Jam" sign in window
check - night lights glowing gently, puts on cool jazz radio for ambiance and stragglers check - cat flaps swings creeeeeeeek (pulls out WD-40), check cat flaps again to ensure they swing quietly and effortlessly
check - doors closed, left just ajar so fuzzbutts don't come to us with complaints
check - dry kibble out as a midnight snack (so hopefully no 5 am breakfast wake-up call) and freshens litter-box. Puts away assorted fuzzy, squeaky cat-toys into Toy-Box

check - windows slightly open for Northern TDKers' spring and closed for Southern TDKers' autumn.

Goodnight to all our imaginary friends in TDK land, Goodnight Airy and Jim-man. White light, healing energy and prayer for all those in need. Be careful out there! Bless all those whom have left before us, please watch over us >^..^<
