  1. I just learned that I've been turned down for yet another job. 7 months I've been out of work.

    I'm ready to just give up all together. Nobody wants me, I've lost my house, I'm at rock bottom and just had a shovel put in my hands.

    I don't know what to do anymore.

  2. Oh Bella, I'm so sorry. {{{{Bella}}}} I don't know what to tell you, only that you can't give up, you're too important and we need you around here.

  3. Oh Bella! So sorry! We have broad shoulders, come on and lean on TDK. The right job is out there, don't know where or when but I just know it is out there!

  4. I'm soo sorry to hear that. Are you able/willing to relocate? Or is that not possible for you? Have you tried the federal government?

    Posted 8 months ago by Lainey #

  5. I'd move anywhere I could get a job, Lainey. The problem I run into in my field (I'm a paralegal) is that so many jobs want a bachelor's degree, which I don't have. I've applied for federal jobs, only to never hear anything.

    I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. :(

  6. Oh Bella, I am sorry for your troubles. You can always lean on us here. Wow, lost your house, do you have a place to stay/live? You mentioned relocating at one time. Is that not an option anymore?

  7. (((Bella)))) I'm sorry, that totally sucks!
    Don't give up - something will turn up, I just know it!

  8. I am sorry to hear this, Bella, but you CAN'T give up! Your luck just has to turn and I pray that things will start getting better for you soon! You know you can lean on us, we are always here!

  9. Relocating is an option, but I can't move without a job. Right now I'm still in the house, they haven't told me to vacate yet. I'll be going to live with my dad and his wife in a few weeks. He hasn't mentioned Lady; I don't want to leave her, but I'm not sure they'll take her.

  10. Bellantara, I'm so sorry! But I just have to say that I don't think you're doing anything wrong. These are just difficult times in so many parts of the country.

    Would it be possible to work with a job search company who could help you look in other locations?

  11. Bella, I am so, so sorry. They are nuts not to have hired you but it is not you, it is the economy. There are no jobs. I have been where you are, more than once, and it's not so long since I spent a year on the dole (our unemployment) when the TV programme I was working on was cancelled. It is so exhausting and so worrying and so depressing being unemployed. BUT YOU ARE NOT YOUR JOB! You are a smart, kind, warm, intelligent, very able woman who is very precious to us and who cannot get a break right now. WE WANT YOU. {{{BELLANTARA}}}

    Do you have good family and friends where you are? I found that more important than anything. I know I keep saying Kia Kaha, be strong, to everyone but I say it to myself a lot too, it really does help! it is a good mantra! {{{BELLA}}}

  12. Bella - please email me at work: elaine.archibald at dcma.mil and I will send you some tips for applying for government jobs. You don't have to have a bachelors but you may have to START at a lower grade and there are paralegal jobs all over the place. Also, if you haven't already, set up an account at www.usajobs.gov and post your resume (you can post several resumes and set up job searches). You might also find other jobs that you qualify for that aren't paralegal. I'm not at work now so it won't be till tomorrow sometime. Also, my agency is starting to block some email addresses, so also email me at laineylives at aol dot com.

    Don't give up hope! Your family will love and pray for you and you WILL get a job. Have you tried any part time jobs just for some income?

    Also, I LOVE positive thinking material (yeah yeah I can dish advice better than take my own!). Go to your library and look for a tape set called Lead the Field by Earl Nightingale. EXCELLENT.

  13. http://jobview.usajobs.gov/GetJob.aspx?JobID=81844841&JobTitle=Paralegal+Specialist&sort=rv&vw=d&brd=3876&ss=0&FedEmp=N&FedPub=Y&q=paralegal&AVSDM=2009-07-10+13%3a20%3a00 If the link works it's a federal paralegal job in Atlanta. If it doesn't work, go to the usajobs website and do a search for paralegals. I found 35 across the country (many in DC, a hop skip and jump from me!)

  14. Have you looked into telemarketing or clerical (office) work?

    I wish there was some way to get you to Texas -- there are some jobs here, and while they may not be ideal, they pay the bills.

    Posted 8 months ago by Cats4Cats #

  15. ... I don't know how far you are from Fla. but I can get you some connections to some of our biggest law firms here.....

    Posted 8 months ago by AV #

  16. Bella, you say everyone wants a bachelor's degree. It is probably just a way to weed out candidates but I wonder -- is it entirely out of the question for you to start part-time studying again? I bet, with your abilities, you would race through a qualification. And doesn't have to be in law -- there might be something else you would excel at and enjoy.

    And WWM has a good point. There must be ways to search for jobs in other locations without needing to be there. Maybe you could check that out.

    Lainey and AV beat me to it! Yay, Lainey and AV!

  17. I'm so sorry, Bella. Times just suck right now and it has absolutely nothing to do with you or your qualifications. Like Catherine mentioned, the job market in Texas hasn't been hit quite as hard as other areas around the country. Please don't give up hope---before you know it, you'll be at a job that you love and realize that this was just a stepping stone (although painful) to a better time. {{{hugs}}}

    Catherine--are you moving to Denton?

    Posted 8 months ago by FondaHonda #

  18. Bella, I hope your family will allow you to keep Lady. Is there any reason you don't think they wouldn't allow her? Lainey has some good suggestions regarding government jobs with this new administration in place, there must be some sort of position out there for you. Also, what do the temp agencies say? This economy is really bad and the competition for jobs is very tough.

    Sending you some consoling hugs. Lady, please give your Momma some gentle headbonks and purrs. She needs you.

  20. Yeah, FH, my move is next month. I'm panicking about it already.

    Posted 8 months ago by Cats4Cats #

  21. Catherine--email me at smeryl at sbcglobal dot net and we can 'discuss' it there! :)

    Are you getting an apartment?

    Posted 8 months ago by FondaHonda #

  22. {{{Bella}}}, I'm near you I think...have you thought about county government also. I know the counties around Atlanta may have openings in their local court systems where your skills would come in handy. I am not that familiar with the law firms in Atlanta (Thank God), but I will keep my eyes open for ideas.....

  23. Bella, I'm so sorry you are going through some bad times. They will get better but I know how extremely discouraging and depressing it is to you right now.

    Maybe it would help the next time someone says you have to have a degree you don't have, if you told them you were willing to take a lesser amount of pay while working for them and for your degree. Some employers like the idea of knowing they are having a hand in the training process.

    Is it possible you could find an older person who needed someone to live with her? If you had free room and board, but didn't have to be with that person 24 hours a day, you could go back to school part time and maybe even find a part time job.

    Maybe your parents know of someone who needs some help to continue living in their own home. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry are all things you have to do anyway. If you can find someone who will give you room & board, you would be being useful and that would help your outlook.

  24. Bella, if you could find some kind of clerical job at a university, would you get a discount on your fees for a degree and get given time to study? That happens here. {{{Bella}}

  25. Bella it is easy for me to say don't give up, but it is harder to do. I heard about the "great teacher shortage" and decided it was time to live my dream--believe it or not I wanted to be a teacher since age, but with a parent that said "those who can do, those who can't teach" I had given up. Well for a shortage it took 2 years to get a job! It is taking a little longer for Ange. It is a horrid economy, but you are an awesome person and the right job will come. In the meantime let Lainey help you. I know for some government jobs you have to be VERY persistant. Continued prayers for you--I believe in you!

  26. Bella, I am SO sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you called your mortgage company and explained the situation and that you are looking for a job? If you have equity in the house they will work something out with you. Banks are so overloaded with foreclosures they are letting some people stay in the homes 12 to 18 months before foreclosing! Don't just move out until they tell you to go! Also, many people don't know this...if you are living in the house when the bank has foreclosed your loan and sends a realtor to tell you that the house is now bank owned and you have to leave, ask for CASH FOR KEYS. Tell the Realtor that you will leave the house in broom clean condition for...say $2000. The Realtor will come by on the agreed-upon day and walk through the house and make sure all is well, and hand you the CASH.

  27. CW, I read an interesting article awhile back concerning a lawsuit (or some type of legal action) in another state, not GA where the lawyers were advising their homeowners facing foreclosure to ask the mortgage company to send them their original mortgage contract in order to move forward with the foreclosure proceedings. Apparently in that state, it was law that the lender must provide that documentation. Well, it turned out that the banks couldn't locate the original documents in a huge majority of those cases and the home owners were able to stay in the house for up to two years while the lender tried to locate the paperwork. I remember Bank of America was one of the lenders involved...not sure if it would apply here in GA but it's something to investigate Bella.

  28. {{{{Bella}}}} I don't have any advice to add, but I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  29. Thanks, everybody. I feel a little better than when I started this thread, and intend to make a fresh start tomorrow. I emailed Lainey, and applied for the job she posted here.

    I'm off to bed now, but just wanted to stop back by, read your wonderful advice, and (((TDK))). Thanks everyone.

    Posted 8 months ago by Bellantara #

  30. Such good support here from your TDK family - this site never ceases to amaze me, it's like it has a life of its own. I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties finding the right job Bella, but I firmly believe the reason for these things is that the right job is waiting for you - it's just a little way down the road. Keep your head up, and BELIEVE.
