  1. OMG, there are 4 babies in the basement here at the museum. Yesterday a volunteer went into the basement to move some tables and chairs. She came back up and there was a cat down there that nearly scared her to death! It is not unusual for cats to take up residence in the basement but this is the first time for kittens. Anyway, the volunteer thought she heard kittens. I went down and they had quieted down. Today though, I found them. Their eyes are barely open, so I am guessing that they are around 2 weeks old. The mama is so tiny, I think she is a baby herself. She is feral. I bought her some food and we will try to become aquainted with her. So wish me luck, I have 4 baby kittens!

  6. The mama is beside herself. I went down just now to check on the food supply. I gave her some wet food. The bowl and everything is gone. The mama jumped out of the kitten box and ran about 10 feet away from me. She turned around and sat there staring at me growling. She is a tiny gray tabby with a white chest and white on her front paws. I talked to her, she stood her ground, growled and stared. At least it's a start. The kittens will have to have artists names I'm thinking!

  10. Tina-- what do you mean that the "bowl and everything was gone?" Do you mean that it was empty or did someone remove it? Please be careful around the mother, until she associates you with food. She might think you are a threat to her babies and take a bite out of you.

    Kilroy, that was great!

  14. How exciting! A box of babies at the museum. You should put a story about them at your museum website. How lucky you all are.

  15. Maybe one of these kitties can become the resident museum cat--like Dewey, the library cat. :)

  16. Tina...I hope & Pray that she accepts your generosity & isn't scared off by the appearance of humans. She may very well have brought them there for help. Let's hope that's why. I also hope your able to socialize her enuf to catch her (which may only be by a trap). When the ferals are hungry enuf,it's usually the easiest times to catch them. It's sad when the babies have babies. Praying that better days are coming for her & her fluffers!

Kilroy...I think Picatso is purrfect!! :)

  19. Tina, how lucky this kittymom and her babies are that you're there to help her, whether she knows it yet or not - I hope things work out well. KW, that's a great idea - museum kitties, just like Dewey!

Keep us posted on their progress, Tina!
