  1. And the riders are off with a successful roll-out as they begin their 150 mile bike ride to benefit multiple sclerosis. I'm not certain exactly how many riders were there, but it was well over 100.

Mr. WWM is proudly wearing a sign on his back beneath his number to say that he is riding in memory of Kittymom's mother.

Our two friends from El Paso were flanking him when they left and I know that they will watch out for him. It's slightly overcast here today and hopefully the cloud cover will hold.

Today they will ride 75.5 miles, spend the night in Big Spring and then ride another 75 miles tomorrow. The course tomorrow will be challenging as it's very hilly, but with luck they will have the wind at their backs.

I'll update you on this breathtaking sporting event as details become available!

  3. Go Mr. WWM!! Yay! How nice of him to ride for Kittymom's mother.

Beats the Tour de France in my book, WWM.

  5. What a wonderful gesture by Mr. WWM! I am so excited for him, hope it isn't too hot for today's ride! You go Mr. WWM!

  6. He knows we're all cheering, right?

  7. I was really so touched at the starting point because there were probably 15 people there that have MS and they were wearing special tee-shirts so that the riders could meet some of the people that they are riding for. And all of them were going up to as many riders as they could to thank them for riding to benefit MS. As the riders rolled out, all of the people who have MS stood at the corner and were ringing cow bells, blowing horns, cheering and waving. It was so nice of them to be there and thank the riders.

I took a picture of the sign on Mr. WWM's back, but of course I have no idea how to download pictures off of my camera, so I'll have to wait for him to come home.

It was so exciting at the start that I almost wished I could ride with them. Almost!

  10. What a wonderful blessing that he is riding for Kittymom's Mom and that he got to meet others with MS that he is riding for. You go Mr. WWM!!

  13. Yay! He is at the college where the riders are staying for tonight! It took 5 1/2 hours to get to Big Spring but, as per my request :-), Mr. WWM stopped at each rest station to drink and have a little energy snack. There were five rest stops, so really the ride probably took 4 1/2 hours.

He broke a spoke on his rear wheel, but the local bike shop has a van following the riders in case anyone needs bicycle repairs, and they were able to fix the spoke.

Sadly, the weatherman was wrong about the cloud cover because there is none. But it isn't quite as hot as in the past several days and there is very little wind, so that part was good.

He says that he felt good on the ride but is going to have a little siesta this afternoon. Our friends from El Paso who are riding with him took off after they all had lunch to go and ride 25 more miles because they want to do a full 100 miles today. They asked Mr. WWM, but he wisely declined, knowing that the course tomorrow will be much more difficult.

Thank you all for your prayers and support!

  14. I, too, am so touched that he is riding in memory of my mom; she was diagnosed with MS rather late in life (49 yrs. old), as MS is generally referred to as a 'young person's disease'. I like to think it was because she was physically much younger than her chronological age. She did pass away about two years ago from complications of MS. She was 79 years old. I have been a tad emotional this morning, just looking thru some pictures of Mom and remembering the good times we had together. I miss her so much..... And, I'm rooting for Mr. WWM ~ stay safe my friend!! Kilroy, this beats the Tour de France in my book, too!!!

  15. Way to go Mr. WWM!!!! And good choice on his part to listen to his loving wife on the stopping and drinking at all the rest stations.

  16. KM she is watching over you and always near you.

WWM I am happy to hear he made it safely to the first stop! Now he can rest and get ready for tomorrow! He is doing a wonderful thing!

  17. Yay Mr. WWM! How cool of the bike shop to have repairs available on the go like that. And smart of him not to do an extra 25 miles (???) this afternoon.

KM, I'm sorry you lost your mom; from what little I know about MS, it seems she lived a long time with it.

Hugs and cheers for everyone involved.

  18. He was a happy boy because they fed them fajitas for lunch! It takes so little......

Kittymom, I just don't think that we ever get over missing our mothers. We sure have been thinking about her today.

  19. WWM, whew!! I am soooo glad to hear that he made the first leg of the ride, despite the weather and the 'equipment malfunction'.... at least it wasn't a 'clothing malfunction' ala Janet? Jackson's Super Bowl performance, lol!!

I can't even imagine his friends throwing in an 'extra' 25 miles just for fun! Makes me tired just thinking about it ;-)

  20. LOL, KM!!!! He's so thoroughly encased in spandex that it would be an ugly thing if any of it ripped!

Our friends do century rides almost every weekend. Clearly the desert sun has succeeded in frying their brains.

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  21. ((KM)) Moms are always with us. It's hard to lose them.
I am glad Mr. WWM is safe and had fajitas! YUM

  22. Kilroy, you're right about that; she did live a lot longer with MS that many who are afflicted with the disease. Over the years she participated in some of the drug trials for treating MS, including the early trials of interferon; I think that may have helped to extend her life. In the end, though, it wasn't easy for her living with the effects of the MS.

  23. The man that sang the National Anthem at the start this morning has MS. He looked to be maybe in his early to mid-30's. He did such a beautiful job.

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  24. Thanks, everyone, for the kind words about my Mom; Our TDK family is just the best!!!!! {{Hugs to all}}}

Posted 2 years ago by kittymom #

  25. Yep, WWM a spandex malfunction is never pretty!! Wonder if the bike shop van is stocked with replacement spandex parts ;-)

Posted 2 years ago by kittymom #

  26. Wonder why the MS Society doesn't try having a 150 mile Texas cross country HORSEBACK ride?? Now that's something I would consider trying ;-) They could have a chuck wagon set up for the lunch stop.....

Posted 2 years ago by kittymom #

  27. That's a great idea, Kittymom! You should suggest that to the society - I bet they've never even thought of it.

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  28. This is so awesome! Way to go Mr. WWM and Mrs. WWM for supporting him! And of course all the TDK family for supporting him. Kittymom... my hugs... Next week is one year since I lost my mom. Does it get easier?

Posted 2 years ago by Jetta and Boo Boo's Mom #

  29. Ouch - the thought of being on a horse for 150 miles is rather painful!

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  30. Oh WWM.....I'm so proud of Mr. WWM!! You must be busting with pride all over the place. I feel like I was there this morning after your description of the start of the race. What a wonderful cause to ride for. Hahaha...the fajitas made him so happy...you're right WWM....so easily pleased. I pray tomorrow's leg of the journey goes as well as todays. *so, so, so proud* =)
