  1. my neighbor brought me a kitten he found in the road. She looked to be 4-5 days old with eyes closed and lethargic. she had maggots in a puncture in her neck, and in both ears, and in her toe. i cleaned all of them out and she seams to be healing well and perking up ( I have had her for 3 days). I have voluntered with a no-kill shelter for over 6 years, but i mainly helped with dogs. i got clavimox for her today. she eats and pees well, but her tummy is big and firm. she hasent pooped since i have had her. i have soaked her bottom on warm water while stimulating her and given her 1/2 ml of mineral oil. what else can i do? i can't afford a vet because i have already spent over $60 on her and i cant give her to my shelter because volunter's don't give thier fosters to the shelter. those that volunteer probably understand how that works.
    what can i do?

  2. Hi, Shellbug. Welcome to TDK! Bless you for trying to help this kitten. What a tough start she's had! I don't have any experience with raising orphan kittens, but several TDKers have. The weekends are slow here so keep checking back for comments and suggestions. Click on the tags on this thread to see other threads on the same topics.

What are you feeding this little one? KMR? Do you see any evidence of worms around her anus? I would worry that having maggots could mean that she has worms, but the only way to know for sure is to take her to a vet. She is probably too young to be given a de-wormer.

Please keep posting. We get really excited when poop happens around here! :)

  3. Get some food grade diatomaceous earth and put a pinch in her formula. It won't hurt her and I've heard it can kill the worms in the intestines.
Keep trying. They are so fragile at this stage and she has had a rough beginning.
