  1. The episode I was watching was a Christopher Ecclestone - the one with Charles Dickens. I somehow missed it originally.

My favourite doctors were: the original - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, John Pertwee and Tom Baker. I also loved both Chris Ecclestone and David Tennant. The new bloke? I don't know, I'll give him a chance, he might be brilliant.

Hitchhikers Guide hasn't been on the tele for absolutely ages. I suspect it wouldn't look as good now as we used to think it did then. It comes on the radio occasionally - it works wonderfully on the radio.

  2. Linda, I loved Peter Davison when he was in All Creatures Great and Small too!

Since we seem to be passing around 20 year old male bodies in the cafe, make mine look like Zachary Quinto and I'll take one!

  3. Linda - Sylvester McCoy???????????????????? That was supposed to be a joke, yes?

Peter Davidson was really good in All Creatures Great and Small, but he wasn't The Doctor, in my opinion. He was too bland.

  4. No PM! I actually thought he was pretty good! At least I THINK I thought so...! I think it depends on who you see first. Never got used to the 1st 3 since they showed after Tom Baker here in the states...

Loved All Creatures Great and Small!

  7. It's another British Summer. Top temperature today was 9 in Central Scotland and 19 in the South of England. That's 48 and 66 in Farenheit.

  8. With regard to The Doctor; because I am so old I watched the original series (from between my Dad's knees, so that the monsters couldn't get me) in black and white, with the shaky cardboard scenery and believed every word.

I didn't like any of the Doctors after Peter Davidson until Christopher Ecclestone.

  9. Afternoon everyone, update on my Mom, they moved her into a rehab center very, very close to her house this morning. She was eating a bit ago and getting ready afterwards for her first pt session. So its good news and all we can do is go forward, and and breathe a little bit now.

  10. Excellent news. Great!

  11. PM, I am with you. Colin Baker was the WORST Dr and I never quite jivved with Sylvester McCoy. I always thought John Pertwee such an elegant and intelligent man and of the original Doctor's the one I most wanted to hang out with. David Tennant, for me has been the most fun and adventurous Dr. It has always helped that he was already a HUGE fan before he was ever cast and truly understands the history. I hate to see him go. At least I have him forever on DVD! We just are finally getting "Planet of the Dead" broadcast in the states next weekend. DVR is set! It took forever for BBC America to show the Christmas special. Email anytime you want to talk Dr. Who!

  16. There are 3 more specials to come - the next one is called "The Waters of Mars". After the 4 specials Matt Smith takes over, in Jan 2010 I believe.

  18. This was published today:

A new Doctor, a new companion, a new era

Production started today on the new series of Doctor Who, in which BBC One viewers will meet the 11th Doctor and his companion for the very first time.

The latest incarnation of the iconic character is played by Matt Smith (Party Animals).

Upon arriving on set in Cardiff, for his first day of filming, Smith commented: “I feel very privileged and proud to be part of this iconic show.

“The scripts are brilliant and working alongside Karen, Steven and the rest of the crew is an inspiration because their work ethic and passion for the show is so admirable.

“I’m excited about the future and all the brilliant adventures I get to go on as the Doctor.”

Accompanying The Doctor on his further adventures in time is a new companion Amy Pond, played by Scottish actress Karen Gillan (The Kevin Bishop Show), who will first meet The Doctor in episode one of the new series.

New show-runner and long-running Doctor Who fan Steven Moffat has developed this series and, as Lead Writer and Executive Producer, will be responsible for the overall creative direction of the show, as well as plot and character arcs.

Moffat’s previous episodes of Doctor Who, including the Bafta-winning episode Blink, have garnered widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike.

He commented: “And here it is, the big moment – the new Doctor, and his new best friend.

“And here’s me, with the job I wanted since I was seven – 40 years to here! If I could go back in time and tell that little boy that one day all this would happen, he’d scream, call for his mum and I’d be talking to you now from a prison cell in 1969. So probably best not then.

“Matt and Karen are going to be incredible, and Doctor Who is going to come alive on Saturday nights in a whole new way – and, best of all, somewhere out there a seven-year-old is going to see them, fall in love and start making a 40-year plan…”

Piers Wenger, Executive Producer and Head of Drama, BBC Wales, added: “The scripts for the new series are every bit as funny, thrilling, scary and imaginative as you’d expect from the man who brought us The Empty Child and Blink.

“There’s a strange and perfect alchemy between Steven and Matt Smith and the next few months are going to be riveting as that relationship starts to emerge on screen.

“Steven always says he’s been waiting to do this job since he was seven. But it’s actually the Doctor who has been waiting for him.”

The new series follows three Doctor Who specials starring David Tennant which will transmit later this year.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, says: “I am thrilled that a whole new generation of children will forever say that their Doctor was the wonderful Matt Smith.”

The series was co-commissioned by Ben Stephenson and Jay Hunt, Controller, BBC One, and will be produced by Tracie Simpson (Doctor Who) and Peter Bennett (Torchwood).

Steven Moffat is Lead Writer and Executive Producer (Jekyll) with Piers Wenger and Beth Willis (Ashes To Ashes) also Executive Producing.

Filming is taking place in Cardiff until March 2010. Thirteen x 45-minute drama produced by BBC Wales for BBC One.

  21. .. I love Dr. Who!.... I'm excited for the new series.... I'm hoping my cable carrier will have it!... I've been sooooo dissppointed that when I moved last Aug. from Verizon to Brighthouse (in Tampa), they didn't carry the BBC channel I was used to, so I couldn't watch Dr. Who, nor Torchwood!.... nor Robin Hood!.... some of my favorites!...... I'm hoping Brighthouse gets these back.... (although I'm not counting out that I'm just stupid and haven't found them on that network yet?.... Dee?...... help me out, am I missing something here?)

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  22. Have you tried the BBC I-Player? See if you can get www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

If you can get it you can watch the last Torchwood now. It's 5 hour long episodes. They were shown one a night Monday - Friday 2 weeks ago.

    Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

  23. Wow PM, I had no idea!... thanks, I've saved that to my favorites, and will definitely explore that!.....

  24. The new show sounds like it will continue being an excellent series :)

Ok now to really try and sleep, talked to the rehab center and my mom is doing fine, taking her meds without arguement, and doing her pt without complaint :)
