In maybe 10,000 years, New Zealand will be part of Australia for all we know. Just like here in the SF Bay Area, they say that the Point Reyes National Seashore will be up by Alaska in about 10,000 years.

I definitely will not be around.

  2. Wow 12 inches is really a huge shift to happen all at once!

  3. 12 inches doesn't seem like much at first, but over all it was a big enough quake to move an island! Fairly interesting article.

  4. Wow...we don't have alot of "shakin' going on" the the Midwest...don't know if I would want to experience it either! I have relatives in Oakland, CA who take it in stride! Certainly is interesting to see how areas can be changed over the years!

  5. SMM, it will be the other way. Australia will be part of NZ. We already call it the West Island. Lets just say that like siblings there is lots of niggling that goes on between our two countries but anyone who tries to come between us,hmmm, then we support each other.

  9. Wasn't it Carol King who sang "I feel the earth move under my feet"? ;-)

  10. Don't know KM, but us Kiwis definitely know the feeling. Having said that it's been a while since the earth has seismically moved in my area. Am I tempting fate now?

  12. Yes I know. Checking our earthquake drums now. All is quiet. No quakes since Monday and it's Thursday. Looks like the huge quake area has settled down a bit.

  13. "I feel the earth move under my feet,
I feel the sky tumblin down, tumblin down,
    whenever you're around
    I feel the earth move...."
Carol King from the album "Tapestry" (I think)
