I know that this is actually up to me but I wanted to ask everyone their opinion.
Terri and John sent Maddie and Abbie some really cute clothes but now they are grown out of a few items. I am not sure if I should pass them on to another child or keep them for my own sentimental reasons. Everytime I look at the clothing I think of Terri and it's so bittersweet. I know Terri would want for me to pass it on and I can't keep everything, but I feel like I can't part with the items. Maddie's dress and shirts I could pass to Abbie but I even feel guilty for that. I know it sounds silly..it's just hard for me.

CM maybe you could pass it on in a different way? Are you good at sewing? Perhaps you can make the clothing and encorperate it into a blanket/quilt for the girls to enjoy for the rest of their lives. Ultimately the choice is yours, and if you feel the clothes keeps you close to her by all means keep them. It is okay to hold onto memories of loved ones. If you feel it is best to give them away that is fine too. Maybe compromise and keep a few favorites for memories and give away the rest?

Gini, that is a great idea, if I could sew. :) I can do buttons and even that is pushing it. lol.

CM, you can send those things to me and I'll make a little quilt. Can't promise exactly when I would have it done (I'm easily distracted!), but if you would like something that is a keepsake then I would be very happy to do that for you. The only things that won't really work is anything that is smocked or has lots of little pleats or gathers.

CM, I would definitely think Terri would have wanted Maddie to share her precious gifts with little Abbiefish, so I wouldn't hesitate there.
......As far as the others, I can understand your hesitation for sentimental reasons, so I'll say this..... I wouldn't give something away, just to give it away..... however, if there is someone special to you - a sister, a good friend, who might appreciate the sentiment and love that that little outfit representes, I would consider sharing it with them, along with Terri's story and what it meant to you. I think Terri would be smiling to know her love and generousity was "paid forward" in her honor........ and keep one or two favorite things..... then, when Maddie and Abbie are grown, and have girls of their own, gift it to the next generation...... you can have the little clothes cleaned and "boxed" up for preservation - like you would your wedding dress..... usually dry cleaners will do this for not too much.......(((Huggs))) -
I think that Terri sure understand that by having the items it is keeping her spirit close. I think she would LOVE the idea of more use of the items and a quilt by WWM would be a great use of the clothing! It would be a small token that the girls will carry forever of the TDK Auntie that they loved and loved them in return!

Awww WWM, thank you for offering. I don't think there are enough items for a quilt though. I had already given some of the clothes away but this was before Terri passed, since Abbie had grown out of them already. Now I kick myself for that.
I will most likely keep the special ones. Maddie has a hat covered in strawberries that she loves and Terri sent that to her. Abbie has a onesie outfit covered in fishes that John and Terri got her so I will keep that one.
Just feeling sentimental today since I had to put away some clothes that Abbie has grown out of.
Thanks everyone for your hugs and support. :)Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

You could put have them shadow box framed and have them in the girls' rooms as art on the wall. Someday they will be moms and the framed clothing could get passed down then.

KK is right, and the very special ones could be put in a shadow box along with other little articles that tie into the hat, onsie or whatever it is that is the main focal point of the box. I have seen some absolutely breathtaking shadow boxes with small articles of clothing.
As for the quilt, if you thought that you might like that, it couldn't all be constructed of bits of the clothing because there's never enough. I did one for a friend and the pieces of clothing were more like accents. The bulk of the quilt was pieced from other fabric.

Oh..I didn't know that WWM about the quilt. I will see what I have after Maddie has grown out of her stuff. That might be fun...
Thanks again everyone.Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

No I haven't GD. I have sent him pictures of the girls, but I haven't heard anything from him. I hope he is okay.

{{{CM}}}} My suggestion is that you carefully pack these items away, and then decide what exactly you want to do with them a little later; WWM's generous offer of a quilt is great, and KK's idea of the shadow box is also great ~ maybe if you have enough items, you could do both......... no need to make any decisions now, just save the clothes for now {{{hugs}}}

Cm, I know this is a difficult thing for you right now. I think that WWM gift of a quilt is an awesome idea. You will know what to do when the time comes. Save some, give some away to other needy ones, you will know. I am with you here. Haven't heard from John either.

I concur with everyone above....... Save the special outfits that are meaningful to you. Whether to be composed into a quilt, or the background in a shadow box........ 10-20-30+++++ years from now, those fabric fragments will be precious memories for you and your girls.

Hey, Jen, how about getting a couple of dolls that could be dressed in the clothing? Then the girls would be able to play with them.
