   Hi all. I'm almost done kitten proofing my bedroom so that I can let the kittens come and go from there but they are intent on laying or crawling on top of the surge protector. It's a larger one like you would have for a home entertainment system because of the wide plugs.

   The kittens are four months old. I have taken the time to put the split tube covers over all of the wires as far down to the plugs as possible but I am nervous about them having access to the surge protectors themselves.

   Bitter apple hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

   Are they trying to bite the cords? Depending on the size of your power strip, could you just put a loaf pan over it, so the kittens can't get to the cords?

   Do the plugs used to baby-proof fit on the surge protector. That might help if you don't have something plugged into each slot.

   They don't seem to be biting the cords, just walking across and laying on everything. I'm worried they'll get hurt doing this.

   They like the warmth. I use double stick foam mounting tape to stick my surge protectors to vertical surfaces like on the privacy panel of my computer desk. If it isn't laying on the floor, it isn't a kitty perch.

   That's a good thought that hadn't even occured to me. I wouldn't have thought it was strong enough. What is the "privacy panel". I might could do that with the back of the tv stand in the living room as well.

   A privacy panel is the back of the desk that hangs down about half way to the floor so that a view up a skirt is blocked if the back of the desk is facing an open room.

   Any flat surface will do. I have one attached to the back of my headboard for my clock, light and if needed cell charger. Also I have one taped to a floor moulding where I needed better access to the power plugs (oh! the joys of antique housing!).

   Ah, that's what I thought you meant, but I wanted to be sure. What great ideas!

   What kind of foam mounting tape do you recommend? Would Walmart have it? What department?

   I bought some bulk rolls from Sam's but it is available at most department, pharmacy, office supply or discount stores in the office supply area or picture mounting area. The brand I got in bulk is Scotch but I am sure there are other brands out there. I use a 1-2 strips of the 1/2 inch wide material (depending on the surge device size) down the length of the power strip.

   Pick your spot carefully. It can be redone but it is no fun.

    I was just wondering if a large gift wrap roll (cardboard) cut to the length of the power strip and slit up the length placed overtop of the unit and secured with some type of tape might work. Power connections and kitties is a real danger. Best of Luck! =)
