  1. Hi! I just adopted 2 little kittens from our local animal shelter and they smell like the shelter. Should I bathe them or will the smell eventually fade? They also feel a bit dirty to the touch. I know cats don't like water and clean themselves and I don't want to traumatize them...but they really stink. Thanks.

  2. You can get kitty wipes at almost any pet supply store. They are like baby wipes but made just for cats.

  5. Bought the wipes today and gave them a wipe down. At first it almost made it worse because it smelled like wet animal...but once it dried it seemed better and their hair looks better....kinda fluffy and soft. When I pet them now I get a little residue feeling on my hands, but nothing major. They are cleaning themselves like crazy so I imagine they will be smell-free in a few days. Thanks for the tip!!! I was not looking forward to giving them a bath!! And Brookie - they are SO cute playing together!! ;)

  6. Welcome to TDK, KKM! Bless you for adopting shelter kitties! What are their names? Can you post pics of your new furrbabies?

When my two were babies, I started washing them (gently) in the kitchen sink because they had to take 'sticky' liquid medicine from a dropper that got all over them before I got the appropriate dose into their little mouths (talk about squirmming!) After their bath, I gently dried them with towels that I had warmed in the dryer before wrapping them up... It was pretty easy, and, they both got used to being bathed.

Mac quickly decided he liked having a bath, and is now a 'water baby' and tries to get into the tub when I take a bath :-) Grommet never really liked her bath, but she quickly learned to tolerate it, expecially because she absolutely loved the warm towel drying after! Plus, after they got a little older, they both got a treat of some tuna juice (laced with their monthly dose of flea medication - snuck that in) which made the whole bathing thingy tolerable. Point being, if you start them young, if you ever NEED to bathe them when they are older they won't completely freak out!!!
