  1. I called the vet this morning to check on Lily, the vet won't be in until this afternoon but the nurse said she had eaten and she was doing well....I can't wait to see her!

  5. I grilled a chicken breast and she ate a piece of that....i force fed some....it would fall out of her mouth and then she would eat it...hopefully she starts to eat on her own soon....

  6. Did the vet recommend a light diet for Lily? If so, chicken, rice, scrambled egg even...otherwise, anything that will tempt her! You'll probably need to make sure she stays hydrated too, many cats like the water from human tuna tins. I hope she starts to eat soon too, silly girl!

  7. Make some home-made chicken broth, TA - just simmer some skinned chicken in water, not too much water so it has a good flavour. Then cook some chicken or buy some cooked chicken breast, and blend it with some of your broth. You can make it as pureed or as textured as you like. If Lily won't take it fairly textured on a saucer, just a few teaspoons of it, then buy a tiny syringe in a pharmacy and puree the mix, then syringe tiny amounts into her mouth. And if even that seems too much for her, syringe just the chicken broth into the back of her mouth. Hydration is important, and luke warm broth is a nourishing way to get fluids into her. Also syringe some room temp water into her throat (you have to be quite firm about it, no dribbles into the front of her mouth or she'll spit it out - quite well back at the top of her throat) or you could also make up some dioralyte and syringe tiny amounts every ten minutes or so into her throat. She will eventually get the taste for eating and start quite suddenly. Cats become anorexic when they feel ill, and they have to be encouraged to eat again, almost like they have to be reminded of how food tastes.

  8. Another thought TA - you say Lily has had 3 shots in 2 weeks - when she had her vaccine, did they give her a worming tablet? And if so, how long ago was that? I ask because sometimes the tablets can have this effect on a kitten, as it did on my sumi, who had exactly the symptoms you describe in Lily, with really terrible diarrhea and dehydration, for 5 awful days.

  9. Great news everyone...while Lily was drinking water, she must have gotten a whiff of the chicken breast and wet food....she ate a few of the chicken pieces on her own and went in for the wet food (which I have mixed with water so she doesn't get dehydrated.) She got a couple mouthfuls of the wet food...I am so relieved...It seems that I have coaxed her into eating again...If things turn for the worst, I talked to my vet earlier and he said he would do anything he could to help us out...like a payment plan considering we have spent almost 350 dollars on Lily in the past week and a half...thank you everyone for your support and advice....I don't know what I would have done without you...I will keep you guys posted as the night goes on...Right now she is asleep in her kitty condo, it is very hard work being adorable you know? :) :) (BTW...she has been drinking a lot of water since we got home, so no worries about that! She did have an IV all night)

  11. It is so amazing how much a a person can love an animal....My husband and I just love Lily so much...She is usually very outgoing...She is full of mischief...She scratches, bites, and stalks our limbs frequently...But we just love her so very much and she has brought us together as a family...I'm sure you all understand...

  12. When sumi was so sick, my vet told me that when a kitten goes through an illness, and her people care for her with that extra love you feel when a tiny creature is helpless and struggling, a very special bond is created which is never forgotten by either party. I saw it happen, and you are feeling it now. Lily will repay your love by growing into a wonderful cat with a very affectionate nature.

  13. Lily is doing sooooo much better....Thank god for IV fluids!!!....Lily has been eating and drinking quite a bit....She had her first poop since she has been home and it isn't that nasty diarrhea that she had before we took her to the vet...I am so relieved...It seems that she has pulled out of this one. thank goodness. I hope she is this cooperative in the morning...It seems that a mix of her wet food, some unflavored pedialyte, and some cut up boiled chicken breast, all heated up is what she likes right now....Nutritious and hydrating all at the same time so I don't mind doing the extra work :) ):

  14. BTW Eleniki...yes the vet did give her a worming tablet!!! And that night she wouldn't eat and she passed a quite large roundworm (Yuk!!!) But she ate fine for a few days after that....do you think with that time span it still could have been side effects from the tablet???

  15. Hi TA (just up, it's morning here now). I am so pleased and relieved to hear how great Lily's doing! No, if it was some days later, then I don't think it was tablet associated. With sumi the problem was that she had tapeworm eggs and the tablet made her insides go into melt-down, literally, because that's apparently what wormers do, which we never think about really. I think sumi had such a bad and prolonged reaction partly due to having an infestation (a mystery, as she had been wormed twice already in the previous month, with no reaction) and possibly due to an allergic reaction to the pill. My problem now is that she should be wormed again, as she apparently still has some eggs (they analyzed her diarrhea a week after the tablet) but there is no way on this earth I would put her through that again, so I'm waiting til she's a bit bigger and has more resources to fall back on (she's 14 weeks now, nearly Lily's age). Sumi's reaction took place the night she got the tablet, and for the following 5 days, so it sounds like Lily had something else. As you mentioned early in your thread, it could have been a fly she ate - they carry pretty disgusting bacteria.
