Evening MC. I was to go to a seminar all this coming week. In light of a few things I will not be in attendance. I am beginning to understand that family is a one time event. I do not often put my job before my family, but lately I have been doing so more and more. Well hubby is now working like he did when he was in the military 6-7 day weeks working 12-14 hour days. I am a single mom again. Thought that would be over with retirement. Anyway daughter was to have an out patient procedure, and I am trying to figure out if she can sit by herself in a waiting area after she is discharged because I am not out until 5. I actually was going to drop her off and then get her after my day was over. Funny part is she was okay with that too. She even said, "I'll just take Dad to work and drive myself." I think that is when it hit me. Now it is simple, but she will not be able to drive home, and the fact that I was even thinking it makes me a crappy mother. I called and spoke with my team leader. Her daughter had a simple procedure year before last--she was in ICU and almost died from that simple procedure. She was in the lap of the Grim Reaper for months. She told me that it was up to me, but she would be with her kid. Again a reminder that I am an awful mother.

SM, you are a terrific mother and don't ever say you aren't! You are a real angel who has gotten busy! Hang in there, I get the idea about life being a one time deal. Hugs and prayers to you and your family!

I know you understand MC. I just wonder if he will ever have a time in his life where something other than his job will come first. I love my job--much more than he likes his! Someone has to take care of her. She is almost an adult and I have no problem having her do more, but I think if your underage kid is in the hospital it is pretty crappy if a parent can't make time to be with them. I was going to the seminar on my own--not because I was asked or for that matter it was never expected. I wanted to go so that I could be a better teacher. I just forgot I NEED to be a good Mom first.

Evening MC and SM.
(((SM))) First off you are not a horrible mother. There is nothing wrong trying to better yourself. That's all you were trying to do. You already know your daughter comes first and you have acknowledged it as well. If you were not a good mother, you wouldn't be worried about your daughter or family.
I think you rock as a mom and you happen to have a lot on your plate right now and in the last few months, so I think you can have a little wiggle room.
As for hubby, I understand the frustration you must feel. Jobs are not what matter in the big picture, it's your loved ones.
Hang in there SM. You are loved!!!Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

Thanks CM. He likes his job, and it is a good one, so extra time will continue to happen. In the meantime I am reminding him that he wanted to retire so he could have a job and be around her before she left home. She is leaving next summer. This is it. Sure she will be home on vacations--but the time is short. I have decided to opt out of everything this year. I have to finish my Masters so I will be in school and with my kid in her Senior year. That is it. I am going to have to put that first. Bothers me a little, but it is what I need to do.

((SM))
Big big hugs to you. I must bid you good night. Both girls are finally asleep and I need to catch some shut eye since sleep is so fleeting here lately.

Hi all - Monday sucks. I feel really flat this week after being so busy the last few weeks. I have nothing exciting to look forward to and the weather is grey, cold and miserable. The heaters weren't on on the train this morning so I was numb from the knees down. Yesterday was MrKK's birthday and it just reminded me how much closer he is getting to retirement age and how little money we have once he retires. Sorry about the rant - just feeling sorry for myself.

Evening everyone.
Sorry to hear about your friend Soxsmom, sometimes it seems that life is too fleeting and very unexpected.
KK, understand that feeling aout feeling flat after being almost non-stop for a period of time. Believe me retirement was not what I expected, I expected to be with my husband and enjoying life with the kids grown. But as with other things, that won't ever happen and I will probably work until I am unable to work any longer. Such is life and I have come to terms with it, sometimes not easily but in some terms. Now I have a new grandchild and going to see her in less than two weeks time, actually in two weeks will be there for the weekend :) So please don't be sorry for your small rant, its allowed especially here amongst friends.
Hope that everyone is having a rather decent night, I am going to go watch In Plain Sight and Drop Dead Diva before taking a nap until I have to get up for w**k.

H**l SM, you don't sound like an awful Mum at all. Sometimes just living our day to day lives gets in the way of things. I know what you mean about hubby working 12hour days , 7 days a week. Mr MS even missed meeting the future in laws yesterday but it couldn't be helped. I'm sorry to read about your work mate SM.
KK, eeeekkkk, retiremant is closing in here too and the same thing about savings. Maybe we can join our households! !Posted 2 years ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

Good idea MS! Maybe you and I should both do what I suggested to you on MSN!

SM, I'm guessing that you have left for the evening. But I just have to say... in the "for what it's worth department", you are a wonderful mother. You are an outstanding role model for your daughter. And you are an outstanding role model for countless young people. You simply cannot take lightly the effect that a special teacher can have in the life of a child.
Your husband is much like mine - there is the duty concept. Sometimes that's hard to deal with, but we always knew it from the beginning and it is part of why we love them so much.
You are a terrific mother!
Well, I am off to bed. Alarm clock goes off tomorrow even before sparrow fart! Have a good evening, Everyone!

Daughter was just blowing her horn--she starts 2 a day practice tomorrow! She will get out of a few sessions because of her medical appointments. In the meantime I will prepare to move back into my room! I have even started lesson plans! I have some good ones I think. I am tired but too wired to sleep. A storm came in and lightening hit our backyard. Scared the dachshund so much she barked so loud and long she went horse--she was scared to death! I fear she would make short order of Mother Nature should she come near! She is coughing and horse--pathetic for a dog. Worst yet Deuter was at his bowl by the window when it hit. Now the sound got the dogs, but it was the lightening that got the cat. He flew through the air and is now located on our bed under the comforter. He might not eat for hours!!

Hi all!...... up here from the BEAUTIFUL mountains in NC!...... LOVING it!.... (but wishes Abby was here :( ........
..... stopped by the grocery on the way up the mountain (I plan my meals).... and had planned chicken, cauliflower and fresh sauteed green beans for tonite)..... Hubbs gets here, and as we're driving up the mountain, his "golf bud" calls, and as soon as we arrive, he unloads, and goes out to play some holes!...... that was fine with me, as I like to clean, dust and set out clean linens and things when we get here..... so, I'm enjoying a nice glass of white wine, thinking Hubbs would be home after golf for our chicken (on the barbie), fresh cauliflower and green beans, and he calls...... "hey, Serge (his golf bud) and his wife want to come for dinner, do we have enough?".... so, I say, Yes, that's fine ( I always over cook )......*fast forward 2 hrs*.... he calls again "oh yeah, (they'd been drinking)..... John and his friend are coming too! bye!"..... so I think "holy S&*t!....... now I'm feeding 6 people, when I was making a "cozy dinner" for two!..... so I dial back "Serge" (golf bud) and I say, ok, bring a bottle of wine, I don't have any.... he says (he's Russian).... "ok, I'll bring 3- I'm not planning on staying 15 minutes, I'm planning on staying a long time!!... LOL.....
... so they all arrive (hungary and *tipsy*).... and well, like the fishes and loaves, "a little goes a long way*!!.... everyone was full and happy, and we had a wonderful dinner party!......
funniest thing was, one of the "add on" guys is a "gabillionaire" and he joked with me "how do you cook such wonderful food in such a small kitchen?.... which I smartly replied "well, if you want me to cook in your 1200 SF kitchen, buy the stuff, and I'll come cook!.... so when he leaves, he says "would you really cook if I bought all the stuff?.... I'm like, well, yeah, it's my "thing".... he's like, what do you and Hubbs want, I'll buy it, if you come cook at my house tomorrow!.... so of course, I say " filet, lobster, cavier .... etc.... LOL......

Oh poor wee dog and Deuter. They'll get over it sometime SM. we can our cat sucked up an internal hallway years ago by a tornado and he stayed under the bed for a week, eating there and had a litter tray with him. He was freaked out by windy days for a few years after that.

SM, I am sorry about your coworker. As for the Mom part..you are a wonderful mother..being involved with her band/marching practices, helping her out with various things and helping her go on a trip of a lifetime (she couldn't have done that without your help). So I am sending you some hugs and saying based on my own personal experiences with a step-mother, you are a wonderful mother!
Oh poor Deuter and your doggie! How scary!!
MS and KK...I know that I will be working till I drop as the word retirement doesn't fit in my lifeplan unless I manage to either win the lotto or find out that some lost long relative has left me a nice inheritance which as far as I know, neither is going to happen. I am going to be the bag lady wandering the street or the old lady greeter working at Wal-Mart or cashier at Target.
I am dreading tomorrow as I will find out how HR is going to handle the hostile coworker issue (see thread I need a hug for details or tag: Hugs). We will see if I still have a job tomorrow as well.
Signed another six month lease at apartment since I cannot afford to move and don't want my rent going up $75/month. Instead it goes up $25/month. Lease is up at the end of January and then we will see if things are different then or if I still want to move.

Oh dear--I'd be freaked out too! I went in the bedroom to check on Deuter and turned the light on. He whipped around and all that is visible from the comforter is his tail! Should be an interesting night! He will attack feet if under the comforter! I am chuckling. Normally when he gets like this Teaser has a field day and is all over him. She was also frightened and is in my TV cabinet. Silly girl! Lissy is so funny--she tries to bark and sounds like she is muted! Her mouth moves but no sound!

SMM remember if they talk termination you must say the words "Hostile Work Environmnet" that is what he created, and that is the reason anything was ever said. You should not have to deal with comments like that. Also I feel so sorry for his kid--I mean really he is only looking at him as a tax deduction. That is so sorry!

Hi ladies.
SM, funny thing about being a Mom, we take no credit for any of the good and feel responsible for all the bad. Trust me, I am an offender myself, but sometimes we have to give ourselves a little break. I have no doubt that you are an outstanding Mom.
So excited today. My oldest auditioned fro any role in an upcoming HS summer production of Two Gentlemen of Verona. This was at a very competitive LA area summer theater. They were to call about parts Friday pm. No call came so we assumed he had not been selected...but today he got a call, a small part, but a small speking part nonetheless , he's so excited....just had to share.Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #
