  1. Now and then a story will be told on TDK that really tugs at the heartstrings, and makes one wish one could do more.

Little Parfait's thread is one such story.

I'm know I'm not alone in being terribly sad to learn that Parfait has gone to Rainbow Bridge, even though in the end that was the best thing for her. What really impresses me is that you, Kay and Kurt, did all you possibly could to save her, and have got yourself into a fair amount of debt in the process. Without a sweet little kitten face to thank you, that debt must become harder to bear.

In the past, some TDKers who are able have donated direct to a vet's practice to try and bring an overall bill down (TDKers who aren't in a financial position to do this continue to offer invaluable emotional support).

So, Kay, Kurt, please could you post the contact info - practice name, address, telephone, email (and your surname too) - of the vets where Dr's Lorch & Judd have been so kind and helpful, and we'll see if we can make things just a little easier for you.

    {{{hugs}}}

  4. MCW, I think I found the address for this vet clinic. The vets' names are Kaley Lorch and Sarah Judd. The address is 1601 Lee Rd., Winter Park, FL 32789.

  5. Oh, thanks KW. Kay, we'd still need your surname (so they can take it off the right account), plus a telephone number - email would help too. Please let your vets know we're doing this, they might get a lot of calls/post!!

  6. I will call the office and see if the name of the cat combined with the first names of the owners would be recognized. I'll let them know that more people may be inquiring to help. brb

  7. MCW, this is a wonderful idea! They did all they could at great expense to themselves.

  8. I just jumped on while the resource group is in a meeting and saw this. I just spoke to the vet clinic and asked them to call Kay to have her post this info. But she said if we just indicate in a quick note that this is for Parfait's expenses they will be certain to ensure it is credited correctly.

She said it was a very, very sad case but they made the best choice for that sweet little baby. We both were were sniffling a bit when we hung up.

  9. I called the vets' office too. The receptionist recognized Parfait's name right away. Kay and Kurt may have already cleared their account by charging the bill to CreditCare. The receptionist could not find a balance on the account but is going to talk to one of the vets and call me back with more information. Stay tuned. :)

  10. Lainey, thank you so much. I'm still hoping for a phone number though, as my bit will need to be done by card - can you post the number for me? Big thanks to KW for her research too.

  11. Let's see if there is a balance owed on the account before we start sending money. I'll post the phone number once I hear back from the vets' office.

  12. I'll try to write them a note via catster...great idea MCW, thank you

  13. I am so sorry to hear this news---they did everything possible for her, and she knew she was loved.

  14. If the bill has indeed been taken care of by Credit Care, perhaps a Chip In page to offset some of the loan?

Posted 7 months ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  15. I just heard back from Parfait's vets' office. The bill for Parfait's care has not been finalized so it is not yet in the billing system. It will be over $2,000.00. The person who is handling this account is not in today, but will probably be in tomorrow. The person I spoke to said she would call the account handler at home if she is not in tomorrow and then call me back tomorrow with an update.

If CareCredit pays off the account, then MCW's chip in page is a great idea with the money going directly to Kurt and Kay to be applied toward their CareCredit account. If it has not been paid, we may be able to make our donations directly to the vets' office. Paying by credit card would help them in making sure the account is not overpaid because they could pull up the account balance while we are on the phone with them. If we mail checks in, an overpayment could occur. She asked that we wait until tomorrow before trying to make payments.

I will post more information as soon as I hear back from the vets' office tomorrow. I do hope Kurt and Kay see this thread. Thanks for starting it, MCW!

  16. Count me in for sure! I know how much little Parfait meant to them that they sure could use our family's help! After everything that TDK has done for me it would be my pleasure to pay it forward.......

  17. I want to help, too! Please keep us posted.

  18. Oh my goodness, I just saw this thread.

You have no idea how incredible you are for even suggesting this. Truly. I am in tears reading this.

Thank you all so much, for even the thought of helping us with this bill.

I can hardly see from crying while typing this, so exucse me for any errors in spelling.

I see you found the vet info already, yes it's Winter Park Veterinary Hospital.
Kurt's last name is Young, that's the name that her bill is under. While we were approved for Care Credit, it's something we're going to be paying on for a really long time. And not that we mind at all...truly. We knew what we were getting into. But any help you all would be willing to give us in paying off the loan would be the most incredible, generous gift. I can't imagine...no one has offered to help us, not our family or friends or anything.

    My email is kaylyngole@live.com.

  19. I'm crying reading YOUR post, KayLyn. And yes, your family and friends have offered to step up and help.. your TDK family and friends, for that is what we really are.

Posted 7 months ago by Lainey #

  20. Kay, please let us help you guys in your time of need! Its the least we can do! Lots of hugs to you and Kurt!

    Posted 7 months ago by mollycat71 #

  21. I would never have even dreamed of asking you all for help. The fact that you have offered is beyond words...I am shaking, and crying all over myself. Even Eggnog came over to see what all the fuss was about.

You are all truly the most amazing people...

Posted 7 months ago by KaylynSueG #

  22. Hiya Eggnog!

    Posted 7 months ago by mollycat71 #

  23. So glad you caught up with this thread, I left you a message on catster.
How are you and Kurt? How is sweet sister Eggnog? You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Posted 7 months ago by Tigerlilly #

  24. Yes, I saw. That's how I found this thread. Thank you for sending me that message.
Btw, I added a few more pictures of Parfait on Catster, which we took yesterday morning before she started going even farther downhill. You can tell she looked a lot worse than before.

We're doing okay I suppose. Kurt buried Parfait last night in the woods near our apartment, in a little copse of trees that won't be any use to developers because it's so tiny and stuck right between two residential lots. He spent over an hour digging her grave, and I know he was hoping it would make him feel better...but it really didn't. He's having a worse time than I am, because he's never seen something so little...die. Even though it was absolutely horrible for me (I held her after she was gone until I couldn't bear the site anymore and had to leave the room), but I think it's easier for me than him only because I can distract myself with comforting him, and having had kittens who've been killed before (by the neighbor's dogs, by cars, etc.) when I was younger, it wasn't as huge of a shock for me as it was for him. I'm still struggling though, but I think I can get past the sadness quicker than he can. I have accepted that we did what was best for her, even if it broke our hearts to do so. I know that she is truly in a better place now. Kurt hasn't come to that acceptance yet, but he will in time.

Eggnog is doing fine, I'm glad he's not showing any signs of having contracted the URI from Parfait. I'm sure he knows we're sad though, he seems like he knows something is wrong. Animals are like that I guess.

  25. (((Kay, Kurt and Eggnog)))

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was so hoping little Parfait would pull through!

Posted 7 months ago by GreatDane #

  26. May you both have Peace in your hearts from your loss. As do the others...I feel your pain.

Posted 7 months ago by feral #

  27. Kay, I don't know if you and Kurt are ready to consider taking on another kitten, but the person I spoke to at the Winter Park Animal Hospital said that they have people there looking to find homes for kittens presently. I know that it will take time to grieve the loss of Parfait, but I think she would be happy to know that you gave another kitten a great chance at a lifetime full of love. Something to think about. :)

Posted 7 months ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  28. I want to help also! I may not be able to help much but you did exactly what I would have... help Parfait to get better or go broke trying!
I feel the need to pay it forward as TDKers often say. I'm positive that Galileo and Max wouldn't be well today if it wasn't for the prayers and white light from each and everyone here.

  29. Thank you GD and Feral. Truly. We were hoping beyond all hope that she would come through...and there was a day or two when we really thought she was going to make it. It was so shocking, and heartbreaking for us, to watch her decline so fast...to lose hope when we had so much.

Actually, one of the saddest things for me was the card that I had made for everything at the vets office to thank them. I started working on it Saturday afternoon and I had used these really, big glittery letters that said 'thank you!' which were followed by these pretty sticker letters that said 'for helping to save' with Parfait's name in bigger, neon letter over a picture collage of her. But before bringing the card in today, I had to change 'for helping to save' to 'trying to save.' And it made me bawl pulling the letters off...just goes to show how hopeful we were on Saturday. We really thought she was coming home yesterday.

KW - We've discussed it a little bit but we're not really sure right now. It's just been so hard on us with losing her, and we're not sure if we can take on that responsibility right now. I know Kurt was looking forward more than anything having a little baby to love and hold, and watch her grow and be a part of the family...it's hard knowing that we can't watch Parfait grow. But it's something we'll definitely think about. The biggest thing is...we can't possibly afford any more vet bills right now. Our wallets are empty. :/

Posted 7 months ago by KaylynSueG #

  30. And thank you Cathi. (you posted exactly as I did)

When there is a time that we can help anyone, if we have the means to, we will certainly do so. I know I've said this already but I can't stress enough how impacting and awe-inspiring the kindness of strangers is. For you all to have done so much, just being emotionally supportive and understanding...that is more than we could ever have asked for.

Thank you all again for being such good people. I feel it is as though only people who love animals as much as we all do can understand the pain of losing them.
