great news

  1. I ended up having a wonderful thanksgiving with my parents. I got up late, and with a case of PMS, but the day was rescued by much caffeine and chocolate...The only topic on which we have disagreed about in the past came up. He feels I should buy a house instead of living in an apt. He offered to cosign or lend the deposit this spring after he assaulted me and I turned him down flat, (I was very specific why I didn't want his money. I still don't want his money. Well, my mom cut him off short and so did I, because I have changed my mind about owning. The new apt. I have is great, located in a nice family neighboorhood, the landlord is nice, but firm, but the neighbors upstairs are the neighbors from hell. They make an incredible amt of noise and don't care...I won't be moving for at least a few years, but hop springs eternal that they become much quieter...

In summary, it was an excellent Thanksgiving, even my dad said so...

  12. That's fantastic news Cheri...now if your nice, but firm, landlord could do something about your neighbors from hell, that would be the cherry(no pun)to top the sundae.

  13. That is better than good news. Keep your borders with your parents clearly defined and move forward.

If the subject of housing returns, remind dad that the market has not yet bottomed out and that, aside from any other personal reasons, you should wait for a better time to invest.

You don't want to be caught like my young neighbors with a recent purchase, a falling market, and a job you can't refuse half-way around the country.

You might want to present your nice, but firm, landlord with a recording of your neighbors when requesting some action.

  14. Cheri, I'm so glad things went well with your parents yesterday. You must feel very relieved! Setting ground rules before your parents came was inspired. It sounds like they were able to respect them for the most part. I like ailuromaniac's suggestions for moving forward with your parents and maintaining the boundaries you need to be safe and to enjoy the time you spend with them in the future. Good job!!!

  20. WONDERFUL! So glad for you. Maybe the landlord can be kind but firm with the neighbors upstairs and the noise levels.
